I love the Goldbergs and so do my kids. They play fast and loose with the years but that's ok. The nostalgia is nice but it works because of the wacky family dynamics.

That's okay, I had to use it to know what the Goldbergs even are.  I pretty much refuse to watch anything with a "laugh track" these days.  The intelligence insult has always been a pet peeve, moreso lately for some reason.

Though as it is, the only regular show (pun intended) I seem to watch is The Blacklist, and I'm two episodes behind.

woah, Parminder Nagra is in the Blacklist

bah, it's not on DVD or Netflix yet....

The Blacklist is currently my favorite show on TV. I think Spader's work is masterful in this series. He's pulled out acting chops I didn't even know he had, and I've always thought he was good.

E Rocc, Meet the is Goldbergs actually is pretty good, the writer basically spent his childhood taping his family with a camcorder. Most of the episodes are fleshed out stories based on actual footage shown at the end of the show. It's still a sitcom but much better than most of the current crap.

She does a great if low key job too.  Spader's performances seem to challenge everyone else to keep up.  The husband does well too, just off enough to be believable about not quite being what he seems.

City Planner Gets Halfway Through Designing City Before Realizing He’s Just Doing Philadelphia Again

News in Brief • government • News • ISSUE 50•12

DES MOINES, IA

Saying that his designs felt oddly familiar as he was drafting them, urban planner William Reston confirmed Monday that while envisioning a revitalized downtown for Des Moines, IA, he had absentmindedly laid out the preexisting city of Philadelphia. “I was just thinking about putting the city’s main art museum and premier university on opposite banks of the river when all of a sudden it hit me: This is Philly!” Reston said after his project-stalling blunder, during which he gave Des Moines a sports complex with three major venues, 24 square blocks of colonial-era architecture, and a centrally located City Hall topped by a statue of a prominent regional historic figure. “Honestly, I really should have spotted it when I changed Western Gateway Park’s name to JFK Plaza and added Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture, but for whatever reason it just made sense at the time.” Reston then made an effort to hide his error by mixing some obscure Seattle neighborhoods into his layout.

For any Clevelander, Browns fan, sports fan or business fan who likes wheeling and dealing, you should go see Draft Day. I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. Lots of great Cleveland-area scenes with Sonny Weaver Jr (Costner) taking the most circuitous route from home (below the Bridge Building in Rocky River to work at the Browns HQ in Berea)! :) It was an opportunity to show off lots of Cleveland scenes, though.

As for the movie itself, this review pretty well nailed it IMHO.....

Draft Day Movie Review: Anticipation for the Real Day

By TheCtownPound on Apr 11 2014, 9:36a

Draft Day. We, as Browns fans look forward to it every year. We throw watch parties just to see our future player get announced in a matter of seconds. Then we can cheer, boo, or shout "what are they thinking?!" when the pick is official. The movie captured this perfectly. The draft is a little less than a month away, and I cannot wait.

I won’t spoil the ending or how the draft in the movie plays out, so feel free to keep reading. I think this is must see for NFL fans who appreciate the wheeling and dealing when it comes down to making that important pick for the future of your franchise. A must see for all Browns fans because it portrays a certain commemoration for a sport that Cleveland absolutely appreciates. If you’re looking for something other than that in this movie, you’re not going to find it. But I’ll admit it, this review may come off as a little biased because I’m a sucker for seeing my beloved team and city on the big screen.

The story takes place a little over 12 hours before the draft. Sonny Weaver Jr. (Kevin Costner) is the General Manager of the Browns and has the 7th pick of the draft. Seattle has the 1st pick (didn’t they just win the Super Bowl?) and is looking to trade the pick away to someone desperate. Bam! Right after they say that, a panorama shot over Lake Erie of First Energy Stadium and the city of Cleveland is shown on the screen. The movie does a nice job of showing how big of a football town Cleveland is and our struggles we had to endure as an expansion team brought back in 1999.

Did you catch the shortcut he took through the projects on (or about) East 55th? lol

Damn, was Les Roberts their geographical consultant?  I love his books and like the guy even though we butt heads politically on Facebook a lot, but he sends his characters on off the wall routes sometimes.

GENERAL RETAIL/RENTAL QUESTION

I am looking for a company that rents out picnic tables. Not the generic one piece kind made out of plastic and aluminum.... we need the authentic wooden kind. I'm guessing at this point somewhere around 20.

I have not had any success finding a place that supplies these based solely on internet searches. My next step will be to actually call the usual party rental suspects. But I thought I would reach out to my UOers first.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know anywhere to rent the wooden tables...... but I do know you can rent out picnic areas in the metroparks whcih would have that kind of seating capacity.  In the Euclid Creek reservation, there is a nice, somewhat off-the-beaten-path (not along the main drag) picnic area where we had a graduation party last year.

I'm dying to know, if you can share, why you would want to rent picnic tables specifically instead of a) other types of tables/chairs or b) going somewhere where there are already tables in this number. Sorry I don't have a source.

Its for my wedding. It is a Cleveland/sustainable/rustic/picnic theme and will be held at a historic location in the city. I've seen tons of pictures of people having wedding receptions with old school picnic tables online and just am wondering where people get them all.

The projects were the lakeview terraces at the end of W.25h st.

which "can be" on the way from rocky river to the gas station by the flat iron he fuels up/takes a phone call at on his way to?  FES/CBS?  certainly not in between berea and rocky river.

Maybe there was a "kevin mackey" moment that got cut out of the movie.

It seems like they mash First Energy Stadium and berea together somewhat.

I would try (in this order):

1) Party supply centers

2) Caterers (even if you are not getting one, you can always ask)

3) Campgrounds (not sure if you'll be able to rent 'em, but they got 'em)

I have to think, however, that the quality and craftsmanship of any such tables available for rent are going to leave more than a little something to be desired.

All such receptions I have seen like that are at places where the tables already exist in abundance.

1. Been doing that

On "Cinco De Mayo", it occurs to me that if the British and the Germans had a holiday for every battle they won against the French, they'd never get any work done.

They could at least have Trooper Day October 25 where everybody drinks Iron Maiden Trooper Ales to honor the Battle of Balaclava.

I would attend that party.

You know the "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"'s would get out of hand late at night.

September 13th will be the 100th anniversary of the German victory over the French in the Battle of the Frontiers.  Can schools with a lot of kids of German origin ban American flags that day?

That seems so unfair. I, for one, would defend your right for equal time to express your deeply held Pantheo-Syncretistic-Druidism if challenged!

I don't have any 'deeply held', silly belief system.  But it is good to hear you feel that way.  I look forward to your letter to the Oklahoma legislature expressing your support for the Baphomet Statue http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=29255.0  After all, those folks just want 'equal' rights to express their own beliefs.

hmmm, no belief system, or just not a "silly" one? I guess before we can grant equal "rights" it's important to reinforce the rights already granted in the Constitution. Sometimes the Supreme Court actually does just that. Hope that's not a problem for you.

Absolutely not.  Just like you, I look forward to its decision granting equal rights to all people, regardless of sexual orientation.  I look forward to it smacking down Oklahoma for its discriminatory approach to religious displays in public spaces.  I really like it when the Court strikes down laws from bat-sh!t crazy states like Texas who want to criminalize what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom and I eagerly anticipate it doing the same with North Carolina's law criminalizing the exercise of a minister's right to officiate a wedding.  No need to worry.  You will soon be able to leave Babylon..... errrrr, I mean NYC..... for greener pastures and not have to worry about getting thrown in jail for your daily activities.

Odd that you think the rights granted in the constitution are not granted equally....... and that we have to go about doing so, but not before we reinforce what 'we' already have.  I think I get it.  Reinforcement now.  Equality later.

And a Big Gulp while we are basking in our freedom!

That'd be really precious to watch, in a "Grumpy Old Men" kind of way, of course.

^Do me a favor. Put your lip over your head... and swallow.

Alec Baldwin arrested for disorderly conduct after flare-up with cops in Manhattan: police

The hothead actor was stopped after cops spotted him riding a bicycle against traffic on a Flatiron street on Tuesday. But after he became unruly with the officers when they asked for ID, they cuffed him and hauled him away in an NYPD squad car.
