i'm bored and have the day off work. should i take the 12:30 bus to cincinnati for the hell of it? (i also want to get back to columbus tonight to get drunk, so i would have to leave by like 6:30)

Yes, it's so nice and warm today.  Go take some pictures for us.

It's supposed to be 64 degrees, no rain...I envy you the chance to run around our fair city!

By all means, SS...it's a great day for photos.

HEY!!!

I just read that Skyline Chili opened a location today in Ontario, OH!  Let's hear it for Greater Mansfield!!!

:D

i cant wait to enjoy an independents game with my skyline chili!

Thought the rest of you would like to know that today's high in Baton Rouge was 82 and I compituated to the elements and turned my A/C on for the first time this year (and first time since October).

If you look at that temperature in kelvins, it doesn't seem so very different from Ohio.

^i'd prefer ohio weather over 82 kelvins, definately :D

oh, and i never went to cincinnati like i wanted to...i fell asleep

oh, and i never went to cincinnati like i wanted to...i fell asleep

Well, it's better that you fell asleep before going to Cincinnati, than to have gone to sleep while driving there!

^definately, although my plans were actually to take a bus

didn't see this one coming,

CLEVELAND -- Paul Silas was fired as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday with his team fighting for a playoff spot after being in first place earlier in the year.

Silas told The Associated Press he was called in Monday morning for a brief meeting with general manager Jim Paxson and new owner Dan Gilbert.

"They released me," Silas said. "They didn't think the team was performing as well as it should be and they wanted to make a change."

Despite having league superstar LeBron James, the Cavaliers have struggled since the All-Star break, losing seven of 10 and nine straight road games, including Sunday's 105-98 loss to Toronto when James scored a franchise-record 56.

The team also fired Silas' son, assistant coach Stephen Silas. Assistant coach Brendan Malone will be the interim head coach.

The Cavaliers are interested in Cleveland native Flip Saunders as the possible successor to Silas, league sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein. Since his firing in Minnesota, Saunders has said he plans to sit out the rest of this season, but his ties to the city and his lengthy experience coaching another star player out of high school -- Kevin Garnett -- have Cleveland's attention.

Information from ESPN.com senior NBA writer Marc Stein and The Associated Press was used in this report.

holy crap!  what a stupid move!  dan gilbert's not going to make a lot of friends in cleveland with b.s. like this...

but who am i, I don't live there, i just follow from afar...and wear my lebron james fanclub wristband every day.

hmm..meant to put that in sports........

wow, this is the busiest the site has ever been

BTW, there was a fire in this building today.  Not sure of the extent of the damage yet:

LowerPriceHill1.jpg

yeah, so anyone hear pizza hut's ad slogan for the stuffed crust pizza, telling people to eat it backwards? ahhhhh, blashphemy! i think its time for pizza hut to fall off.

I just felt like telling somebody that I'm VERY HAPPY that they have resurfaced Hamilton Ave. from just north of the Northside business district all the way up to Twin Towers.  That was quite possibly the worst stretch of road in the city--you would literally get stuck in ruts and the road would drive you.

Ever gotten off Cross County at Galbraith/Winton?  That half mile stretch of Galbraith is exactly like that - ruts that guide your car like it was light rail...horrible...maybe they've fixed that now.

Nope, it's still pretty bad.

So did any of you go to Creekside (Gahanna) Fest two weeks ago or Comfest this past weekend?

^i went to comfest, but not to gahanna

Nope...did go to a couple of local fests, though.

How was Comfest?

^i thought it was quite good...

we got hit by a little hurricane-like storm on saturday evening, and that just made it even more interesting

My new favorite quote:

"You live and learn and then you die and forget it all." -- Ray Lum (1895-1981)

And who was Ray Lum?  A Mississippi horse trader.  Saw the quote in a book of essays about Jackson, Ms. yesterday.

today i know what it feels like to be a resident of virginia beach, VA (the air show traffic overhead)

and it still isn't nearly as bad as they have it down there

Wait until tomorrow - if they keep up tradition, they'll fly directly over and "buzz" downtown (as opposed to over the lake).  :-P

So that's why a couple military planes came screaming by when I was in downtown Cleveland one day two years ago!  (Probably.)

Speaking of air shows, I decided the coolest thing about an air show (as I observed in Dayton) is this condensation cloud that sometimes appears around a jet as it travels near the speed of sound.  I won't even attempt to understand the physics of it.  Some example pictures here: http://chamorrobible.org/gpw/gpw-20040817-English.htm

yeah, they also liked buzzing over university circle, which really confuses the fuck out of you, until you remember what weekend it is......

Okay...so there was a drive-by shooting in the neighborhood back behind me on Thursday.  Three people were shot, no one killed.  I saw about seven police cars, three ambulances and a fire truck, plus the low-flying police chopper.  They haven't arrested anybody yet.

The next night there were more police cars.  I never did hear what happened then.

Last night I was at a wedding reception.

And tonight--more police cars.  In fact, rarely a night passes where there aren't police cars going into that neighborhood.  And it's not that big of a neighborhood either.

I live in such a nice place--the emerging inner-burb ghetto.

I was in downtown Cincinnati yesterday afternoon (WEBN fireworks day) and a military jet made some impressive passes along the river valley.  But it all seems so wastefull, especially with a large portion of thecountry recently devestated in part because of lack of foresight and poor emergency response.

Give the people bread and circuses and they will not question the emperor.

My three favorite T-shirt sayings at Voodoo Fest- New Orleans (Saturday)

Defend Orleans

Make Levees not war

Why worry when you can party

How any of those will help rebuild New Orleans, I don't know.

BTW, the rest of you up in Ohio got to see CC Adcock and/or Cowboy Mouth.

Cowboy Mouth.

Don't they sing "Jenny Says" or something like that...I remember that song being big when I was in high school, but didn't realize they were still around

Yep, Jenny Says was their big hit back in the mid 90s.  They still draw a loyal following in New Orleans.

They spent the last two months (post-katrina) living on their tour bus (sponsered by Southern Comfort) they said on stage.

I should also add that Better than Ezra (formed in Baton Rouge) are still kicking it here in Louisiana also.

hey, random question. One of my friends has a red shirt that reads "cleveland junkie" and its two union terminals crossed in an X with syringe like apparati at the ends of them.

Anyone ever seen the tshirt? or know where to get it?

I think someone in my eas class has that shirt. Google it.

god bless google and the use of " "

i idiotly googled cleveland junkie without the quotations

Yes, this thread is for off topic conversations/discussion.  Please keep it civilized.

But there is no topic.  So, any conversation on this thread will therefore be on-topic?  And if we stay on topic on this thread, will we be breaking the rules?  This seems paradoxical.  I need to lie down for a bit.

^---I think you just gave me a headache...  :weird:

I really want a Bobcat. All I need is a few grand. They're illegal inside Cincinnati city limits but I'll just tell police it's a Bobcat mix.

just be careful it doesn't eat your face.

^^Did you want the Bobcat Runabout hatchback?

Or maybe you prefer the Bobcat Villager station wagon?

Whatever you decide, make sure you get one with the cool tangerine interior...
