I travel internationally for work and it makes me insane that these poor little countries often have well-developed and maintained transit systems.

Here in the USA, and in NYC in particular, we're still waiting for infrastructure week.

I've noticed that many countries seem to only have nice transit systems in their capital cities, while the rest of the cities are left to transit via relatively sketchy buses.

just the opposite of ohio!

So after watching the "US" trailer for the 10th time - good god does it look good - I think it's safe to say this movie exists in the Marvel Cinematic universe. You hear me Jordan, I figured it out!

It seems pretty obvious what happened. After Thanos killed half of the universe, M'Baku and Nakia come together in the midst of the trauma and tragedy. They survived for a reason, life is short and precious, and besides, the two are tired of living in the mountains and... working in espionage(?) The two decide to start over, let Shuri run the country, and move to the States. Fast forward 13 years, the two have taken on American identities and accents, have two children completely unaware of their Wakandian pasts, head to the beach to see Tim Heidecker (who wouldn't?). And as shown in the previews, the next few days the family is terrorized and battles their dopplegangers (perhaps that's Reality's way of repairing Thanos' damage. He killed half the universe, so Reality is doubling the existing population with dopplegangers in order to level off). Remember, Reality is an actual sentient humanoid entity in the Marvel universe. It wants to survive just as much as anyone.

And THAT is why Nakia is wearing the Infinity Gauntlet with the gems on the movie poster. Am I wrong? Google and see it for yourself.

It's so obvious! Sorry for spoiling the movie guys.

Just wondering what happened to MytwoSense's. Wondering because I enjoyed his posts and he was in here all the time back in the day. I knew he got in trouble sometimes ,never not sure why because I always missed what happened it seems and the story. Is he still around with another name, left on his own or banned? I do remember he was in trouble for something that continued for awhile but don't remember what it was.

Nah that's between Cincinnati and Columbus.

Yeah I saw that one many times. Got confused with the big statue of Jesus? I never drove from Cincy to Dayton or vice versa.

Coming and go as he pleased i disagree. He was a regular and had one of the highest posts quantity of anyone back then.

Opposition to "gentefication" is entirely toxic.

This is something that happened with ethnic neighborhoods throughout history, and it's a key part of what could be called "inclusive assimilation".

This resistance seems anti-assimilation, which is dangerous for both the (ethnic) community and the nation.

There's still a darkish spot in between them, as there is in the Cleveland Akron borderlands.   Where there is a national park, a couple ski resorts, and zoning-mandated bigger yards.

Although the satellite photo may be described as some sort of blob, it can just as easily be distinguished as CIN-DAY.   For a more refined look at the emergence of Cin-Day and Cleve-Akron-Canton as new CSA's, the original link (below) offers an excellent, enlargeable study.  (Btw, as already mentioned, Youngstown does appear up for grabs by either Cleveland or Pittsburgh.)

As long as we are mashing up names, can Detroit and Toledo become Deleto?

relax, while its interesting, it's just nimbyism. happens in working class and poorer neighborhoods too. sometimes with egging on from wealthy, rootless agitating hipsters. it's a brief, last gasp in dynamic areas. the market will eventually brush it all away like it always does. there is no stopping the rising value and rebirth of inner cities. the mexicotown or other ethnic enclaves are not really going anywhere either, they will just be shoved further out into le next banlieue, just like all the other working class people. its really a shame solid neighborhoods get whitewashed, but thats capitalism for ya.

BERLIN (AP) — Voters in a municipality in northwestern Germany have delivered a clear message: no street names, thanks.

Official results from a referendum held on Sunday showed 60 percent of voters in Hilgermissen rejected the local council’s plan to name the streets, while 40 percent supported the proposal.

A big reason why I'm a 22-year Lakewood homeowner: responsive city officials & services. Just one day after I pointed out to my councilman snowplow damage (exposed by this thaw) done to the street next to my building, city crews came to clean it up. A big thanks my Councilman Dan O'Malley and Mayor Michael Summers! Here are before/during/after pics:

Must be nice!   You're a couple blocks from a city where that would require an act of god!

Not true. During my walks, I have tweeted Councilman Zone about things that I see that need attention (damaged streetscape features, large downed tree branches, etc.) and he gets them taken care within a day or three. So not too bad.

Zone is the best of the worst...I do give him credit.

Remember how Mayor Jackson was touting the income tax increase to return services to Cleveland neighborhoods?   There was supposed to be weekly street sweeping, etc?   I think I've seen a street sweeper once!

Also, let's hand it to toady's street sweeping equipment for being able to suck up decent-size chunks of asphalt.

It appears that NASA has finally lost contact with the Opportunity rover on Mars. The mission was supposed to last for just 90 days but Opportunity ended up surviving for 15 years and driving over 28 miles on the surface of Mars. Here's a Twitter thread explaining how contact was lost.

I remember when that thing landed and Conan O'Brian did a pimp bot segment where the bot alleged that the rovers were his idea and part of his plan to control business on Mars.  They showed a cheesy drawing of the rovers with pimp hats.

Holy sh!t!!!

Amazon falls out of NYC deal. Any chance either of the 3 C's can still land them? Give them the moon, would be great for Cleveland.

As a 12-year-old, I didn't realize the magnitude or the externalities of this win. But I could see it in my older brothers and my parents, and the talk among the teachers at school. I just enjoyed this game for what it was. A game. A very intense game.

I was at either a basketball game or wrestling match at Maple High, and Maple being Maple the score was announced as USSR 3, USA.....4.

Almost certainly the most important sporting event in global history. It may have helped shift history's course as God only knows Americans needed that jolt of national pride at that moment in time.

It wasn't televised live because it started at 5pm.

yeah they televised the miracle on ice game later over the weekend --  and to bring ohio into it -- the bgsu players on that miracle team (falcons ken morrow '79 and mark wells '79) helped attract the future bg team that would win the ncaa hockey championship a couple years later.

besides being a great upset it was also one of the best if not thee best coach pep talk speeches of all time:

I just thought of something...probably the only use of the word "baby" in a Metallica song is Enter Sandman, and they're actually addressing a baby.  It's like the only time in rock history when a singer was actually talking to a baby.

They've got a song called Carpe Diem, Baby. But that's the "sarcastic baby" as in "Hasta La Vista, Baby".

^I didn't know they were capable of sarcasm/wit.  Maybe it's time to dust off that Lou Reed collaboration.  Coney Island, Baby

WTF is that on the second floor deck?  A literal fortification???

^ While not very attractive, that's actually quite common around the Cleveland area at least.
