Served in pint glasses, basically they were Long Islands with things added to give it that grape kool-aid flavor. So they did have soda added to keep them from being too syrupy. But they are really sweet. You can get one at the Westside Melting Pot under the name Smackintyre. The owner was a bartender at the Pigskin when they invented it. Or at least when he is there.
September 29, 201014 yr I've always found Benadryl effective at relieving stuffiness and helping me sleep soundly, and although it leaves me feeling pretty mellow and sometimes a little groggy in the morning, I've never experienced anything that would equate to a hangover from it.
September 30, 201014 yr Damn, I can't wait to take a hot shower. My building shut off the hot water Tuesday night at 8 pm to do maintenance down in the boiler room. They promised to have it back up and running around 5:00 pm today. Well I got back from an intense workout around 8:30 pm today and saw the back hatch open for the boiler room. I looked down and their were pipes disconnected everywhere, and a few of the workers were arguing. Now we have no water....and my toilet just did it's last full flush and of course I need to clean up after the workout.. It's amazing how important water is. I might just be taking a shower at the office tomorrow.
September 30, 201014 yr You think pseudophed = meth?! You must have a sensitive brain. You would probably run down the street naked if you ever just took an Adderall or Dexedrine. I've been a few different ADD drugs. They all either made me euphoric for a few hours, or made me feel like I'm operating my body remotely, kind of like what CBC described above. None of them helped me with concentration. All of them effed up my heart rhythm as well. You must not have been given the right medication. Sounds like it threw your equilibrium off. Some ADD/ADHD people actually respond better to anti-depressants or sedatives. Everyone's brain is different, you know. Have you heard of Dr. Amen? These SPECT brain scan images are fascinating to me. http://www.amenclinics.com/brain-science/spect-image-gallery/ I'd be curious to see the effects of abuse of over-the-counter medications. I bet Nyquil is as bad as alcohol. Here's one scan of a subject with the ADD subtype which involves chronic boredom/constantly seeking stimulation, and internal preoccupation. This is the scan showing the blood flow patterns in the brain. The 'holes' aren't literal, rather, just a pattern of lack of blood flow in certain areas. Those 'holes' at the top are in the prefrontal cortex of the brain which is responsible for concentration. This is the same brain, but showing the blood flow patterns after the ADD subject was medicated with Adderall. After being medicated, the blood flow in the brain is much more balanced, overall. If you're this type of ADD, you don't feel euphoric on stimulants; it's more of a sense of clarity. I think this is why I feel hangovers from stuff like Nyquil or sleep aids; they probably deplete dopamine and adrenaline (of which I apparently produce little as it is lol). I also have a hard time enjoying alcohol; once in a while I'll drink to relax but I hate how it makes me feel dumbed down. I remember one time I bought --I think it was Robitussin; they actually asked for my ID. I had no idea one of the chemicals in it is commonly abused. I don't even like taking Benedryl when I'm sick. I don't know why but they all make me feel like sh!t the next day, even in regular doses. I'm big into hypnosis now. I'd rather use that for fever/cold or anything where self-induced sleep is needed. I know a lot of people think it's bs but it actually works really well for a lot of different things; at least for me it has.
September 30, 201014 yr ^ that makes a lot of sense. If the root of the symptoms is decreased blood flow as the scans indicate than a stimulant would close those "holes". I know my one buddy who struggled with un or under diagnosed ADD until he was in his late 20s when he finally got the right medication. At which time he got his act together and finished college after initially dropping out after a year, joining the navy and then bumming around for a few more years after he got out. He told me the first time he tried coke that everybody else was coked up and he was just felt more "normal". I also think a lot has to do with what you consider normal. I started drinking in HS so I grew up knowing how to manage the next day. however, to this day I hate the "cobwebs" associated with pot because I never smoked a lot of it or found it particularly enjoyable. It makes me literally stupid the next day and everything is hard to do. Which I find very frustrating. For me unless it's a really bad hangover the effects of alcohol are mostly physical not mental and I manage it with Advil and water. Or fountain coke and Five Guys if it is bad :)
September 30, 201014 yr Heh. Check out the SPECT brain scans for alcohol use! The guy was just a weekend warrior, only drank a couple days a week and his brain pattern is all screwed up! Some serious ice cream scoops there. Alcohol seems to be the absolute worst for your brain.

I've tried a few different types over the last few years (was only recently diagnosed with the condition...but it certainly explained a lot of my issues growing up), but none of them were effective. All of them had negative side effects that I couldn't live with. I saw something on ESPN once about Kris Kaman who has the condition, but didn't respond to stimulants either, and had success with neurofeedback. Don't know enough about that to look into it. Plus, you know, with ADHD I lose interest in researching quickly.

Some serious ice cream scoops there. Alcohol seems to be the absolute worst for your brain. Alcohol is definately bad for your brain but I think it is most easily abused since it is so readily availible (duh, I just stated the obvious). I wish I could read the write up for the scan to find out what heavy weekend user means. I know a few people that have a few beers nightly and then get wasted on the weekends because they don't have to work. Basically still drinking like a college student. That's a heavy weekend user to me. The cumlative damage has got to be devastating if your brain never gets a chance to recover/minimize the damage. http://www.amenclinics.com/brain-science/spect-image-gallery/spect-atlas/images-of-alcohol-and-drug-abuse/ Check out the last one. 3 packs of cigarettes and three pots of coffee daily? My god, decreased brain activity has to be the least of that person's problems.
September 30, 201014 yr I can't believe how many people were blowing lights the whole way in. Almost every other traffic light was out and people just drove through them without even slowing down. That could depend on the way the light is designed. If the way you were approaching the light was blinking red you would stop, although that does not necessarily mean that the cross traffic had a blinking red light as well. Obviously if blinking yellow they are to proceed through the light with caution. If the light was out completely then your assessment is correct and people are just idiots.
September 30, 201014 yr David - They swipe your license for most cold medications now, including Dayquil and Nyquil. They have been for quite a few years - I remember when I had mono my junior year of college, I thought Target would eventually send the police after me because I was buying so much cold medication.

Yea its too bad we rely on little cameras to make sure everyone drives properly. I've seen plenty of people who treat fully functioning cycling stoplights as stop signs and zoom through after seeing nobody else at the intersection. Then again I've also seen lights with absurdly long cycle times for streets with zero cross traffic. I imagine during the outage was one of the few times everyone didn't slam on their breaks to avoid revenue speeding tickets at select locations.

In the case of yesterday morning, the vast majority of them were out out (not blinking) since there was no power. People just went careening right through them even when there were people trying to turn off of the other road! Idiots. I was worried I was gonna get rear-ended for stopping.
September 30, 201014 yr are you one of those people who understand those large "SPEED 35" signs to be the MAXIMUM allowed speed? I've heard of you people before... ;)

October 1, 201014 yr Slow day around here... No kidding! Okay, I'll start a conversation. I got dragged into playing Fantasy Football by the mister this year, and oddly enough, I am kicking some serious @ss thus far. Anyone else in a league?
October 1, 201014 yr I'm in two leagues and a suicide pool. I was out of the latter after week 1 (F@#$ you, San Fran!) I'm 0-3 in one and 1-2 in the other. I had sh!tty draft order for both and I got no backs. That, and I'm lousy at the draft.
October 1, 201014 yr No.I have been trying to get into a league that my college buddies have been doing for years (mostly to trash talk) but nobody ever drops out. So this year he sent ou an e-mail that they had so many people bugging them that they were thinking about starting a second league, so I replied directly to his e-mail within hours. Like 10 days later I got an e-mail from him saying that he never checks his yahoo account and they had already filled the second league up. Idiot....He's a good friend but still an idiot.
October 3, 201014 yr David - They swipe your license for most cold medications now, including Dayquil and Nyquil. They have been for quite a few years - I remember when I had mono my junior year of college, I thought Target would eventually send the police after me because I was buying so much cold medication. Oh please, the DEA would get so lost looking at that beautiful face of yours they'd forget what the hell they were after you for. :-P Hah. Yeah, I know what you mean. Personally, I get kind of annoyed knowing my name is on a list just to buy something over-the-counter like a bronchodilator or cold/flu medicine . I was kinda paranoid about buying Bronkaid and those Epinephrine inhalers years ago. I hear Sudafed and Ephedrine are used as a precursor to Methamphetamine, when they manufacture it in the lab so that's why they put you on a list and count the number you buy. I had Chronic Bronchitis for 2 years, I think it was from the mold in my apartment and towards the end of that second year I used the doctor at UC's student clinic and she swore up and down I was just coughing non-stop because I smoked - and she mostly just gave me this huge lecture (which I had been smoking from about a month prior to when I started seeing her - you know, hookah tobacco was the cool thing to do on campus, or whatever) but yeah, the Bronkaid and Epinephrine inhalers I'd buy over-the-counter worked so well. It totally cleared my sinuses, lungs. I had no mucus drip and my vocal chords were much more sharp to where I could speak clearly. After I used them a while I realized they also helped me as a study aid because of the adrenaline. I'm sure I'm on some list somewhere to this day; they probably suspect I have a meth lab ready to blow up any day now. You think pseudophed = meth?! You must have a sensitive brain. You would probably run down the street naked if you ever just took an Adderall or Dexedrine. I've been a few different ADD drugs. Plus, you know, with ADHD I lose interest in researching quickly. Yeah man, I read Dr. Amen's book recently, all about ADD/ADHD; there's six distict types. Pick up his book (or I'll try to find it in one of my boxes and if I can, I'll be glad to mail it to you if you promise to read it) and learn more about what could work for you if you think it could help you. He talks about what medications (many aren't well known and aren't even stimulants), he also recommends certain foods (I always wondered why I crave protein so much!), also, supplements and exercise that works, of course. A long time ago when my doctor told me I had either depression or ADD ) I was really skeptical because I never understood how you could just have these clearly defined disorders, as complex as brains are (I personally think everyone suffers from some disorder here and there, in a plethora of areas, and hey, that's what gives people some personality and makes the world evolve but obviously those moments of impulse control and good focus can come in handy.
October 4, 201014 yr You should only have to sign for the Nyquil with pseudoephedrine in it. Well, I think they just made it a blanket thing, cause I've been carded in the past week for Dayquil and Mucinex as well.
October 4, 201014 yr They must have, because that makes no sense! Many of us in product dev are not happy that they don't try to market the p-ephed version more heavily as that is the one that works the best. So do you know which interstate I'm talking about when I say "Highway 40"? EDIT: So as to include others in this conversation, the St. Louis definition of a hoosier is essentially someone who is white trash, not someone who is from Indiana.
October 7, 201014 yr Yes, I know which interstate passes Forest Park, the St. Louis Galleria, that long-ass Chesterfield strip mall, and eventually Norfolk, Virginia. :D "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
