November 16, 201014 yr I can't even imagine a Prospect Ave Drag Queen unless you're talking about a black Mimi from The Drew Carey Show in which case I'd call shem "Oprah." Child...There were plenty!
November 16, 201014 yr Have you ever been at work, and the sh!t hits the fan? Everyone closes their door. There is an eerie silence in the building. Something I've known about for a few weeks came out and now everyone is clamouring, alliances are being made, people are gossiping and speculating (you know, like we do here) without any facts. I just told Thing 1 & 2....... Thank God I signed a contract extention! Sometimes I really hate corporate America.
November 16, 201014 yr Thank God I signed a contract extention! You and Donovan McNabb... My boss has had a draft job posting for his position sitting on his desk for the last two days. I am sure he has left it out intentionally. Its driving me crazy waiting to hear what's happening. Unfortunately it's 2 or 3 level up so I have no chance.

I am sure he has left it out intentionally. Its driving me crazy waiting to hear what's happening. Unfortunately it's 2 or 3 level up so I have no chance. I'm not worried for me. I'm worried for other people. People that I actually like in general and like working with. You know the type of people who show up for work with their thinking caps on! Me. I'll be fine...... I always have a backup plan. ALWAYS.

I think I have grown up in a very sheltered world... I think us older folks in the prime of our careers are stable, it's the recent grads that are fucked! Even if I lost my job, I certain I would be rehired in 48 hours.

November 16, 201014 yr To not violate Mr. Mayor's directive, I am going to respond to this comment here: Why is it that everytime we address an issue like this here...instead of facing up to what we need to do about the given issue...we act like because it happens in other places, it must be ok. We need to take care of our portion of the neighborhood in this world, so to speak...and not sit back with complacency because an issue exists somewhere else. Let's see how far having homeless straying all over 9th Street gets us. The problem here may be disproportionate to our size, regardless of it existing in other areas. And yes, I have sisters in San Fran. Btw....Hts121... Public ordinances can be utilized prohibiting defecation or urination and loitering in public spaces. The former two points constitutes a public health issue. Just because I look at this as an issue that deters good investment, does not mean I am some neo-con suburbanite who is out of touch! Rather, its about not sugarcoating this issue with tones that its no big deal. It is a big deal. Uh oh... I sense a real pressure cooker brewing here! Would somebody mind going to the next City Council meeting and seeing if they would be interested in passing an ordinance prohibiting public defecation and/or urination? Thanks much...

November 17, 201014 yr If I hadn't been quick on my feet, I would have been hit by an SUV today. The road has no sidewalks. It was a dark and rainy evening. I was wearing a bright yellow PVC rain coat, which I wore intentionally for visibility, despite it being uncomfortable. I think she saw me with plenty of time to spare, but she braked into a skid on the wet road, lost control, bumped into the curb, and continued through a stop sign, eventually coming to a stop in the middle of an intersection. I saw it coming and darted off the road. She got out of the vehicle. "Are you OK?" "Yea, you scared me, but I'm fine." "I'm glad you jumped out of the way." "Me too."
November 17, 201014 yr If I hadn't been quick on my feet, I would have been hit by an SUV today ... I'm glad you escaped injury! Some drivers don't know how to handle adverse weather, and they think all the doodads like anti-lock brakes will compensate for their lack of skill. Does your raincoat have any reflective material? You probably can find reflective tape at a safety-supply store; I use personal safety gear for occasional photo projects, and I picked up a bright yellow surveyor's vest with reflective strips that cost less than $20 and has a bunch of pockets for gadgets.

November 17, 201014 yr Love it: Two Wolves ... a metaphor for our times. One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said: "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil ... it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and inflated ego. The other is Good ... it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied: "The one you feed".

November 18, 201014 yr Intermittent internet at work today, it's going to be a long day. Believe it or not it keeps intefering with work too.. Sounds like the internet here! I can't stay logged into the VPN for very long at all. They have computer desks for people to sit at, but the wireless router must be at the other end of the lounge, because the signal is the weakest at the computer desks. DOH!
November 18, 201014 yr I hate watching Rachel Maddow. For one, she looks like the crazy drunk butch lesbian that sucker-punched me at Penn Station, and two, she acts like Democrats are such victims to Republicans. I hate the victim mentality. I haven't watched her show enough to really judge her well though. Olbermann is the same way. There's too many liberal intellectual narcissists on these shows and they all p!ss me off. I really don't get how people can HATE Bill O'Reilly yet love Keith Olbermann. It makes no sense. They both essentially have the same agenda, they just use different tactics. At least Bill O'Reilly keeps it real. 9 times out of 10, if he says something crazy, he probably does actually believe what he says. As far as all the so-called racist stuff he says, he really doesn't say anything that you don't hear white people say all the time behind closed doors. The only thing I don't like about him is how he's so big on censorship. As controversial as he is, he's in no position to tell people to pull their stocks from UMG/Interscope because some rapper cursed on their record. Overall, I have to admit he's probably my favorite pundit. Sadly, Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert come in second and third and they're not even supposed to be taken seriously. David....I'm in tears over here. I wish I had witnessed that!
November 18, 201014 yr It was hilarious. Did I tell that story before? I think I did. NO. Or it would have gone on my UO best threads list, right under UO in Greece.
November 20, 201014 yr God, I was just going through some really old pictures I still have on my old facebook account and stuff on my HD. Old adventures, back when we just reveled with our new found freedom and did whatever the hell we wanted on a whim. Taking advantage of calling features to prank call douchebags who we hated. Setting mattresses on fire on the river bank in Cincinnati as the boats went right past us at night. Camping at Red River Gorge. Smoking a hookah back before we cared if it would get us addicted to nicotine lol. My friends making me go in first when we infultrated the Cincinnati Subway at like 2am. Fun times with old friends that I'll probably never see again or at least would be hard to see again because they live far away. That sh!t sent a huge rush of depression and nostalgia through me. So many adventures couldn't happen today So many songs we forgot to play So many dreams are swinging out of the blue We let them come true Forever young, i want to be forever young :(
November 20, 201014 yr Sometimes something jogs a memory, and the more I reminisce, the more I remember. I should write a book, now that the statute of limitations has expired!
November 21, 201014 yr It was hilarious. Did I tell that story before? I think I did. NO. Or it would have gone on my UO best threads list, right under UO in Greece. It was Jimmy Johns, not Penn Station, my bad. I remember I ordered the number 2, it's the Roast Beef and Provalone, but I digress. So it's me, my room mate (the one who brushes his teeth in the shower) and these two chicks we hung out with at the time that lived in our building. We're in line. I made small talk with this woman in front of me because she was gorgeous and we happened to order the same thing and got confused over whose was whose, so then I was kind of flirting with her. There was this butch lesbian (picture Rachel Maddow with star tattoos on her arms and a wife beater) over by the soda machine and ended up going to her table so it was only until then that I realized they might have been 'together' and the chick I flirted with must have just been a less obvious, "Portia Di Rossi" kind of lesbian. So my friends and I sit down, we're conversing and eating, it's like 20 minutes later and they had already left. The butch lesbian comes back inside Jimmy Johns and about a minute later, out of no-god-damn-where, she comes from behind where I was sitting, says "B!tch!" -- I turn around to see what's going on and she sucker punched me right on the jaw. I looked at her, realized this person that just hit me was in fact a woman! She's looked at the staff at the counter real quick then ran towards the door. Then I looked at my friend and said, "Did that f-ing d*ke hooker really just do that!?" I was in shock! She was like 5'4, maybe 130 lbs. We both jumped up and ran outside after her but she was nowhere to be found. I'm guessing that when they left, they were in the car and she told her girlfriend she would be right back and went back inside Jimmy Johns. Then by the time we went out there, they drove off or ran off or whatever. I'd have liked to beat the brakes off of her for having the audacity to jab me but I really just wanted to find out what the hell possessed her to do it. There's no way I'd hit a woman. Her girlfriend was gorgeous, she probably has to deal with guys flirting with her all the time and maybe that was the tipping point. Plus, she was probably drunk like almost everyone else at Jimmy Johns at 1am on a thursday. Who knows. Edit: PS: I have nothing against lesbians! Just crazy violent ones that I can't hit back!

November 21, 201014 yr Wow, this is actually a great personality test. I didn't realize it but the stuff it said about me is true (even the negative aspect of it lol) http://www.personality-and-aptitude-career-tests.com/free-personality-test.html What did you guys get? I got "Spontaneous Idealist" I'm a Reliable Realist. Some things didn't add up. Like Respecint Authorities and not delegating tasks. I'm a delegator, and based on the project, a micro manager. We have little time for "extravagances", now that's just BS! The bold items pretty much sume me. Reliable Realists are down-to-earth and responsible-minded. They are precise, reserved and demanding. Their most prominent quality is reliability and they will always make every effort to keep any promise given. Reliable Realists are more quiet and serious persons, they do not talk a lot but they are good listeners. They sometimes seem reserved and distant to outsiders although they often have a great deal of wit and esprit. Their strong points are thoroughness, a marked sense of justice, doggedness bordering on pigheadedness and a pragmatic, vigorous and purposeful manner. Reliable Realists do not dither about if something has to be done. They do what is necessary without wasting words. This personality type not only expects a lot of himself but also of others. Once Reliable Realists have set their mind on something, it is difficult to persuade them otherwise. They do not like to leave anything to chance. Planning means safety to Reliable Realists, as well as order and discipline. They have no problem respecting authorities and hierarchies but do not like to delegate tasks. They are certain that others would not deal with them as conscientiously as they do. In management positions, they are very task-oriented - they make sure that things are well done; however, they do not have a great deal of interest in personal contacts at work. In relationships too, Reliable Realists are reliability itself. As partners, they are faithful and consistent, well-balanced and sensible. Security and stability are very important to them. They have little time for extravagances and flightiness. Whoever has them as friend or partner can rely on them for a lifetime. However, it takes quite a while for Reliable Realists to enter into a relationship or friendship. They have little need for social contacts; they therefore take great care when choosing partners and friends and limit themselves to a small but exclusive circle which meets their high demands. They tend to show their closeness to people who are important to them by deeds - their partner should rather not expect romantic declarations of love. Adjectives which describe your typeintroverted, practical, logical, planning, tradition-conscious, organised, persistent, objective, tidy, conscientious, cautious, loyal, peace-loving, sensible, down-to-earth, responsible-minded, reserved, careful, independent, punctual, precise, demanding, ability to concentrate, trustworthy, pedantic, reliable, persevering
November 21, 201014 yr Hoo, Boy! Did that ever nail me! As I went through the pairs of choices I was a little frustrated because in each pair, neither was a clear choice; each choice listed some attributes that apply to me, so I had to pick the one that was closest. The outcome was pretty much spot-on. Adjectives which describe Analytical Thinker: introverted, theoretical, logical, spontaneous, rational, analytical, intellectual, sceptical, pensive, critical, quiet, precise, independent, creative, inventive, abstract, eccentric, curious, reserved, self-involved, imaginative, unsociable, determined, modest, careful, incommunicative, witty RP note: "Incommunicative" above doesn't mean inarticulate or otherwise unable to communicate. It means that I try to keep my mouth shut and not let impulse drive me to show my ignorance (That inhibition often dissolves with fatigue, leading to my occasional late-night posts that go off the deep end). In meetings and hearings I'm not quick to jump in with my opinion; I'll keep my mouth shut and let everyone else have their say, and often someone else does a respectable job of expressing what I had in mind. If no one else covers it, I'll speak up just as the moderator is about to close discussion. If I'm asked for my opinion, I'll be straight out with it and sometimes end up stepping on sensitive toes. That's what set off the brouhaha with "Charlotte" that some of you might remember from a few months back.
November 21, 201014 yr Spontaneous Idealists are creative, lively, and open-minded persons. They are humorous and disposed to a contagious zest for life. Their enthusiasm and sparkling energy inspires others and sweeps them along. They enjoy being together with other people and often have an uncanny intuition for their motivations and potential. Spontaneous Idealists are masters of communication and very amusing and gifted entertainers. Fun and variety are guaranteed when they are around. However, they are sometimes somewhat too impulsive in dealing with others and can hurt people without really meaning to do so, due to their direct and sometimes critical nature. This personality type is a keen and alert observer; they miss nothing which is going on around them. In extreme cases, they tend to be oversensitive and exaggeratedly alert and are inwardly always ready to jump. Life for them is an exciting drama full of emotionality. However, they quickly become bored when things repeat themselves and too much detailed work and care are required. Their creativity, their imaginativeness, and their originality become most noticeable when developing new projects and ideas - they then leave the meticulous implementation of the whole to others. On the whole, Spontaneous Idealists attach great value to their inner and outward independence and do not like accepting a subordinate role. They therefore have problems with hierarchies and authorities. If you have a Spontaneous Idealist as your friend, you will never be bored with them, you can enjoy life to the fullest and celebrate the best parties. At the same time, they are warm, sensitive, attentive and always willing to help. If Spontaneous Idealists have just fallen in love, the sky is full of violins and their new partners are showered with attention and affection. This type then bubbles over with charm, tenderness and imagination. But, unfortunately, it soon becomes boring for them once the novelty has worn off. Boring everyday life in a partnership is not for them so that many Spontaneous Idealists slip from one affair into another. However, should the partner manage to keep their curiosity alive and not let routine and familiarity gain the upper hand, Spontaneous Idealists can inspiring and loving partners. Adjectives: Spontaneous, enthusiastic, idealistic, extroverted, theoretical, emotional, relaxed, friendly, optimistic, charming, helpful, independent, individualistic, creative, dynamic, lively, humorous, full of zest for life, imaginative, changeable, adaptive, loyal, sensitive, inspiring, sociable, communicative, erratic, curious, open, vulnerable. -------------- I'm vulnerable!? F-k you, test!! I don't think I've ever been too "overly emotional" and I don't like as much drama in my life as this thing suggests but this thing is spot-on in every other aspect. I've always had great intuition about what a person's motivations are - I'm very attuned to everything that's around me. That's why I hate the rumor mill/trash talking at work and find myself CONSTANTLY standing up and defending people who get targeted because I don't think anyone should have anything but respect for the people with I believe have good intentions.

I was going to make the exact same observations as you, Rob, and I also got the same personality type.
November 22, 201014 yr Can any math majors out there calculate the maximum number of possible personality types that this test can identify? It's been too many years since my math classes, and I can't remember the equations for combinations and permutations. It should be a simple calculation of the number of possible combinations, based upon the number of either/or choices in the test. I'm curious as to whether the distribution of results is finely cut, or whether test-takers of varying types might be lumped together under general categories. This test might make an interesting poll topic to determine a profile of active UO forumers.
November 22, 201014 yr I believe it's 32 possible results assuming there aren't multiple ways to reach the same personality type. Pretty sure it's just a function of 2^5. 2 options for 5 questions. I majored in philosophy so no promises I'm remembering this correctly.
November 22, 201014 yr Pretty much nailed it. I was conflicted on a few of the answers I might try it again and go the other way to see what the answer turns out. Dreamy Idealist Dreamy Idealist (DI) Dreamy Idealists are very cautious and therefore often appear shy and reserved to others. They share their rich emotional life and their passionate convictions with very few people. But one would be very much mistaken to judge them to be cool and reserved. They have a pronounced inner system of values and clear, honourable principles for which they are willing to sacrifice a great deal. Joan of Arc or Sir Galahad would have been good examples of this personality type. Dreamy Idealists are always at great pains to improve the world. They can be very considerate towards others and do a lot to support them and stand up for them. They are interested in their fellow beings, attentive and generous towards them. Once their enthusiasm for an issue or person is aroused, they can become tireless fighters. For Dreamy Idealists, practical things are not really so important. They only busy themselves with mundane everyday demands when absolutely necessary. They tend to live according to the motto “the genius controls the chaos” - which is normally the case so that they often have a very successful academic career. They are less interested in details; they prefer to look at something as a whole. This means that they still have a good overview even when things start to become hectic. However, as a result, it can occasionally happen that Dreamy Idealists overlook something important. As they are very peace-loving, they tend not to openly show their dissatisfaction or annoyance but to bottle it up. Assertiveness is not one of their strong points; they hate conflicts and competition. Dreamy Idealists prefer to motivate others with their amicable and enthusiastic nature. Whoever has them as superior will never have to complain about not being given enough praise. As at work, Dreamy Idealists are helpful and loyal friends and partners, persons of integrity. Obligations are absolutely sacred to them. The feelings of others are important to them and they love making other people happy. They are satisfied with just a small circle of friends; their need for social contact is not very marked as they also need a lot of time to themselves. Superfluous small talk is not their thing. If one wishes to be friends with them or have a relationship with them, one would have to share their world of thought and be willing to participate in profound discussions. If you manage that you will be rewarded with an exceptionally intensive, rich partnership. Due to their high demands on themselves and others, this personality type tends however to sometimes overload the relationship with romantic and idealistic ideas to such an extent that the partner feels overtaxed or inferior. Dreamy Idealists do not fall in love head over heels but when they do fall in love they want this to be a great, eternal love. Adjectives which describe your type introverted, theoretical, emotional, spontaneous, idealistic, dreamy, effusive, pleasant, reserved, friendly, passionate, loyal, perfectionist, helpful, creative, composed, curious, obstinate, with integrity, willing to make sacrifices, romantic, cautious, shy, peace-loving, vulnerable, sensitive, communicative, imaginative
