The U.K. is like that. Once a vanity plate is yours it is yours forever to sell or trade as you wish. Some plates have gotten over 1 million pounds.

Walking down Broadway Street in Cincinnati and noticed this sign...

i heard about this craze from somebody and it seems its true — people go berzerk over low numbered license plates in delaware:

Former Delaware resident, can confirm. When I lived there I always had fun trying to spot the lowest numbers I could find. I once saw #7 in Rehoboth Beach and I spotted numbers 87 and 88 on two BMWs in someone's driveway in New Castle.

Was planning on visiting Cleveland this weekend for Navy Week but it appears no ships arrived for it unfortunately. Really wanted to take a tour of a Navy ship with my GF. How you can you have Navy Week without any ships? Has there been any noticeable Navy presence up there this week?

Thanks, Obama

We need to remind Canada who's boss still! Can you imagine a aircraft carrier porting in downtown Cleveland? The only thing I don't think it can fit in the canal between Lake Ontario and Erie, be towed off and on starting at  the Saint Lawrence river and anchored a 1/2 mile off the coast.

Is it Navy weekend?  I know the Airshow is happening.  I don't know about any ships.

Yes and you answered all my questions. :(

funny timing here — i learned something about this topic just this week as we were up in the mitt of michigan.

actually there were two aircraft carriers in the great lakes during the second world war, the wolverine and the sable. they were scrapped afterward, but the planes are collectors items. they were modified great lakes ships and were used for practice. of course they couldn’t be on shallow lake erie — they were on lake michigan:

It's worse than that.  Our professional military lost to their militia near Niagra Falls.  We went up there with every intention of taking the whole place for ourselves while Britain was busy fighting Napoleon and we couldn't handle the British skeleton crew and some farmers from Ontario.

not really, the vast majority of usa participants in the war of 1812 were also poorly trained militia. i say participants because much of the country, ie., the east coast federalists, turned their back on it. so the whole war wasnt much of one and its overblown in america. it soon ended in a draw and its seen as a skirmish in the napoleonic wars in england and france and i think rightly so.

We need to remind Canada who's boss still!

It seems that everything's gone wrong since Canada came along

I just wanted to take my time to share some personal news.

I'm joining the military, and more in particular the Air Force. I've enlisted and have been sworn in this past Friday afternoon circa 4:00.

(16:00 for those service members who are probably going to rip me a new one if I don't use military)

I don't know my MOS or my ship date yet, but I have some really good military connections as NCO's that can put in a recommendation for my desired position as an Aerospace Propulsion Technician.

More than likely I will be put in that area, but based on the circumstances right now, since I don't have an MOS, my ship date is set somewhere between January and February.

Luckily Basic training is in Texas, also at the perfect season, so I'll be in Ohio spring weather if not, better.

Are there any seasoned Air Force vets that can possibly give me some pointers or lookouts so i'm prepared?

So, I know I'm not a seasoned veteran on Urban Ohio although I check this website religiously, I know I will be with the United States Air Force.

Contracting for 6 years with an auto E-3 AFC grade. Possibly going for my bachelors and going through OCS to one day become a pilot and retire with 20 years under my belt.

Alright Cleveland, by the time I get out, I want the skyline to be unrecognizable. And by that, I mean more buildings. Bigger buildings.

^ Congrats and best of luck during your service!

all the best to you and keep us posted.

maybe brush up on your military branch jokes!

On some air bases the Air Force is on one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side of the field, with the control tower in the middle.  One day the tower received a call from an aircraft asking, "What time is it?"  The tower responded, "Who is calling?"  The aircraft replied, "What difference does it make?"  The tower replied, "It makes a lot of difference.  If it is an American Airlines flight, it is 3 o'clock.  If it is an Air Force plane, it is 1500 hours.  If it is a Navy aircraft, it is 6 bells.  If it is an Army aircraft, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 3.  If it is a Marine Corps aircraft, it's Thursday afternoon."

A MAP OF EVERY BUILDING IN AMERICA

By TIM WALLACE, DEREK WATKINS and JOHN SCHWARTZ

Oct. 12th, 2018

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/10/12/us/map-of-every-building-in-the-united-states.html

"Most of the time, The New York Times asks you to read something. Today we are inviting you, simply, to look. On this page you will find maps showing almost every building in the United States.

Why did we make such a thing? We did it as an opportunity for you to connect with the country’s cities and explore them in detail. To find the familiar, and to discover the unfamiliar.

So … look. Every black speck on the map below is a building, reflecting the built legacy of the United States."

Yes it is...but I do kind of miss the building thing. I am stuck forever now as the Kettering Tower. At least I did not get stuck as the hideous Rhodes Tower lol.

Younger people have always had the lowest voting rate.   Loosening the absentee rules makes it something one can do on one's own schedule, which is bound to increase participation.

I know a lot of Cincinnati folks like to read the Business Courier but many don't have logins - I wanted to share the fact that you are able to read the full edition online with your Cincinnati Public Library card using the link on the page below:

https://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/resources/research.asp?group=14

I have always used the library to get e-books but didn't realize how many other resources they have available to card holders:

https://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/resources/research.asp

I've been using the Chilton Library (saved a few hundred bucks fixing my power windows myself), Lynda, and Transparent Language recently.

^In Columbus, we get access to a lot of online publications as well - I use my card frequently for Consumer Reports, but there are many others.  I do go to the library for books and I assume that is the most well-known feature, but e-books and online publications can be very valuable, too.

Holy god the last minutes of Sunny... one of the greatest television segments of all time, especially if you know the show and its characters. I'm still speechless.

^ I've watched every episode from day 1 - and most seasons two or three times as it's a show I'll always put on in the background or when I can't find anything else to watch.

Aside from the literal "jumping the shark" episode - I can't say I've ever seen a show jump the shark like that before.

Newburgh Hts Speed Trap

Just thought it was funny because no police presence means people will continue to speed... Money-grab smh.

Only when it comes to driving and parking is police enforcing the law considered a "trap".

IMO it's a "trap" when an officer deliberately hides--only because if you ask any police officer about speed enforcement, they'll always come back with a line about "being visible on the roads to promote safety."

Late to the game on the sunny episodes, but...

I won't say it's a GOAT segment. I also have watched every episode and most of them multiple times.  But ya, although I thought the last episode was nice and the last scene was emotionally appealing, it felt like a stretch and a bit over the top for a show that usually walks the line and rarely makes a definitive statement - simply explores both sides of many arguments.  They got flashy and they used art in their story in a way they haven't before.  It's done over and over in other settings, but they decided to bring it into a show that most people don't watch for that.  It did catch you a bit off guard, and in that respect was possibly more striking than going into something expecting it.  I was conflicted by it though, honestly.  It seemed like they came up with an excuse for doing it instead of doing it as a natural progression.  It was striking and it was done about as tastefully as that show can do something.  I won't fault them for stepping outside the lines, but jumping the shark, I agree with Ram, it applies here.  The first and last shows felt off to me this season.  The rest of the season was at the top of their game.

And again, i really don't know how to feel about it, so i'm not criticizing.  But can you remember any other episode where they actually do something legitimately well??  The last time I remember them all dancing, they cut to reality and they were all drunk and embarrassing themselves during the class reunion.  Now all the sudden mac is a master of expressing emotion through dance?  Just a little odd.

I just thought it was a hyper beautiful, honest and provocative performance that has now made me interested in interpretive dance and ballet. I can't think of many scenes in television programs that had such an impact I'm interested in what's still such an alien field. And contrast it to the typical Sunny goofiness - it just makes the scene even more powerful.

It's pretty cool it was able to do that - i'm pretty cynical, so don't mind me :)  It definitely was done well
