I told my doc I feel dizzy for a half hour every morning when I get up, then I feel fine.  He told me to get up a half hour later.

I have the worst luck with French presses. They seem to crack every 6 months despite every attempt to treat them delicately. God knows how many glass particles I've swallowed.

How do people make them last?

Get a stainless steel one. The one I have is from Williams Sonoma and works great.

Mine was not expensive, is 20 years old, and works fine; the press was actually made in France.  At what point do yours crack?  While pouring in the hot water?  In the dishwasher?  Those occasions would suggest non-tempered glass, maybe intended for cold-brewing.

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

I'm not sure exactly. It isn't the dishwasher (I don't use it). Maybe when I'm cleaning it by hand?

The cracks seem to appear out of nowhere.

Anyone ever hear how much a liquor license transfer sale cost, from one restaurant owner to another, at the same address? I just heard one is being offered for $50,000 for a for-sale restaurant near me. I thought that sounded obscenely expensive considering a new license costs just $2,300 or so.

If none are available and it is a hot location that is not out of the realm of possibility

In Portsmouth liquor licenses are six figures.

driving around los angeles yesterday we saw a typically la giant-sized billboard ad for ... ohio. it was quite a shocker. i don’t think i have seen any publicity ever for ohio as you do for other states.

so this billboard wasn’t especially clever, in fact it was a copy of the old ‘ny is the big apple, but cleveland is a plum’ style marketing. it said los angeles has the most famous sign in the world, but come to ohio for business blah blah blah, or some such thing. not bad tho and for sure it got us jibber jabbering about it. i hope the state of ohio does even more publicity in the future.

obviously there are many charitable organizations accepting donations for Haitian relief, but here's some info on a Haitian minister in Painesville and contributions he's taking through his church, if anyone so chooses--

You can donate to an account set up by Bishop Mirbel at the Painesville Credit Union located 280 N St Clair St, Painesville, OH 44077.

You can also send non-perishable food, bottled water, blankets, medical supplies and flashlights to: Haiti of Christ at 1012 Rockhaven Court Chester, Virginia 23836.

Bishop Mirbel said 100 percent of the funds will go directly overseas.  You can contact Bishop Mirbel at: 440-521-0587.

it was freebie friday so i went to the whitney museum yesterday. it was nice to see ne ohio well represented in the collection currently on display. someone had the good sense to hang clevelander george ault next to charles burchfield from ashtabula and lorain’s lenore tawney was up in there too. if you are coming in to nyc there is a big jasper johns show upcoming from sept-feb. that is all!

Definitely not Lakewood.   Street is too wide and no curbs.   I say straight up Brunstucky.

^there was another similar one making the rounds last week that got a lot of mileage. People also guessed Elyria, Ashtabula and nationally Fresno, some city in North Carolina, etc. I finally found out she's actually from Florida, but can't remember where. There must be a Painesvillain Anti-Defamation League I can contact lol--oops, according to one reply she's from Hixon, Tn.

did you ever find one you like?

i like a french press coffee, but they are hella unhealthy unless you carefully skim the scummy foam/oil off the top before you pour your coffee. i was told horror stories about that by coffee lab baristas -- that french press is especially bad for your ticker unless you take off that top layer of gunk. you can spoon it out, use a paper towel, or pour it thru a paper filter before drinking it.

Yah, I found a cheap one that's done the job. No glass percolating in my stomach lining, though I am more careful with cleaning and handling it.

whew! the james webb space telelscope is now fully deployed. it should be the new improved hubble.

it will take few months to focus it before we get pics because that final part is very subtle.

So now I'm super curious how my French press is going to kill me. Any more context/details on why this is?

the oil in the coffee bean is no good for you. apparantly french press style really pulls a lot of it out. filtered coffee is better:

I think it was going to collapse under the weight of its sudden surge in membership and attention anyway.  It began, years ago, as a world-owes-me-a-living circlejerk of pretty hardcore utopian communists (people who really believe that it would be somehow sustainable to provide food, clothing, housing, utilities, healthcare, education, and God only knows what else to the entire world population with no one needing to work to actually provide those things--video game economics where you simply pay $X into the computer in SimCity and all of a sudden there are houses and infrastructure there).  It went mainstream with a very different Zeitgeist, more in the labor-solidarity than antiwork spirit, with people telling stories of exercising market power in a tight labor market, generally to get better jobs (whether that meant getting better managers or better compensation & benefits or both) rather than leaving the workforce entirely and becoming dependent on state largesse.

r/workreform about to see a significant increase in membership. Probably r/MayDayStrike too.
