Didn't know where else to put this. Interesting history, separating fact from fiction. I'm actually surprised how close the movie American Gangster stayed to the truth. Love that movie, BTW!

I went out for a bike ride today in the 92F heat.  About an hour into it, I was surprisingly tired from the heat and pulled under a group of big trees next to a cow pasture.

I take my helmet off, drink some water, and play around on my phone for about 10 minutes.

Suddenly, some woman appears and goes FULL KAREN  on me, threatening to call the police, and telling me that "you're really freaking me out...you need to go immediately".  She waved her iphone at me, threateningly.

Because when you're out to break into cars and houses out in the country, you ride around on a carbon fiber racing bike with no cargo rack and bright orange lycra.

Some people literally do not want to see men by themselves anywhere.

Need a little Cleveland fashion advice.  What do I wear to a Friday night private party at a club in the Flats this month? At my age jeans-and-a-T are not a good idea.  I'm leaning toward sport coat/open collar.

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

^ Without knowing the exact place and reason for the party, I’d say a pair of decent chinos and a button-down, or camp collar shirt should be fine. If you’re trim enough to get away with a polo shirt, that could work too. Only wear the sport coat if the event’s formality warrants it.

My hovercraft is full of eels

A slim fit suit works for all occasions.

^ yup, w/open collar, pocket square.

This guy was nuts.  He periodically went on long rants against chiropractors and once brought a kitten to work.  He put it up in a street tree, then became distraught when it started walking across power lines and he realized he wasn't able to command it to come back down.

Out of curiousity I've been watching some Mr. Beast videos.

They're terrible. Boring. Visually unappealing. He's neither charismatic nor funny. His friends even less so, and the guy seems to pick on them (due to insecurity?) while they just laugh it off.

A bit CKY/Viva La Bam'ish in that regard, minus the charm.

I don't get the appeal.

Now Caleb Pressley, his stuff is absolute gold, for example the Marshmellow and Kevin Gates interviews.

You know how when the main act starts at the Super Bowl halftime show and then their "fans" rush toward the stage and are super-hyped and keep jumping up-and-down for the next 12 minutes?  What are those people doing at this very moment?

Mark Wahlberg makes surprise visit to his Airstream & RV business in Lorain

Story by Lauren Hoffman, The Morning Journal, Lorain, Ohio • 14h

Aug. 28—Celebrity Mark Wahlberg is an actor, rapper, business owner and an RV guy.

Wahlberg was in Lorain on Aug. 28 to visit one of his enterprises, Mark Wahlberg Airstream & RV, 4500 Grove Ave.

"I am a car and family guy," said the 52-year-old actor. "My dream was to buy a new car growing up."

The actor, who has been described as standing for family, faith, adventures and outdoors, began delving into the business of RVs and Airstreams with an eye on Ohio.

"We came out here today to visit the company and get an idea of how things are going for the staff," Wahlberg said. "Plus, I've always stayed connected to real people, and I feel more comfortable and more at home in places like Ohio."

Two years ago, Wahlberg and business partner Jay Feldman announced the purchase of Joe Firment Chevrolet, which quickly became Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet, 37995 Chester Ave. in Avon.

Neff Bros. RV, a 20-year mainstay in Lorain, was next on the list for Wahlberg and Feldman.

The one constant in the world of music is the threat of theft of equipment.

Also, Guitar Center's used gear listings are amazing.  It illustrates just how many people fall on hard times six months after buying something really expensive.

Boy has this changed since this post was made in 2019. I was just in there today and you're back to not saving much at all for buying used from them. From about 2014-2015 until COVID used gear prices there were indeed super low. I'm talking 75% off of MSRP and 50% off new street price. It was hard to get a read on their used gear prices during COVID because they became depleted very quickly. Stock is back up to more normal levels but not the glut they were facing in the mid-late 2010s. The other thing is that everyone isn't getting rid of their rock gear for banjos and mandolins like they were 10 years ago. I remember the new section was a bunch of Appalachian acoustic string instruments which depressed values of everything else because of all the Stomp Clap Hey, Bluegrass and Americana bands that were extremely popular at the time. I saw a bass that new from them at $199 marked used (in 5-day trade hold mind you) for $189. The Appalachian (well, African, really) instrument section was back to its ordinary small size.

I found a bottle of a nice 12-year old Scotch that I forgot I had. It's probably 22 years old now.  Is that good or does whisky stop aging out of the barrel?

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

The aging, or maturing, process only occurs within the barrel; it's inert within a bottle.

Once you open the bottle and it starts oxidizing, you'll still have plenty of time before I'd pitch it.

Thanks, that's what I expected. Wine ages in the bottle, but not whisky.  Anyway, it was nice to discover a nice bottle hidden away; the price has more than doubled during its lost years.

Horrible news out of Baltimore. Multiple vehicles were on the bridge as were about seven construction workers when it collapsed. About 20 people missing.

I had an  interesting dinner with a senior Georgetown Univ. professor last night. He said that for the first time in years not all the graduates have jobs or even offers. They apparently limit their opportunities by only considering coastal locations. Nothing in the middle of the country is even considered and that includes booming/formerly-booming Texas, Nashville, Denver, Chicago, etc.

I guess the civic promoters are doing the right thing trying to keep local grads in town after graduation.
