Also, why can't TW have cool commercials like the new Comcast Commercial with the kids and people in the city??? Sheesh, TW sucks. ;)

We no longer own TWC, so I can't answer that.

Aol is a worthless company. That was probably the worst merger of all time. At least bank merging is seamless and guaranteed successful. With AOL-TW you're basically molding two unlike things together. I wonder why Time Warner didn't do a better a job of transitioning AOL's loyal consumer base to TW cable internet. It seems like AOLs bread and butter now consists of advertising from AIM - via computers and cell phones. The majority of my friends don't even use AIM, they use MSN or Yahoo. AOL needs to reinvent itself.

Yeah, I shouldn't wish that on TW. NJ is the worst. The whole state literally stinks with pollution. I love New Jersey diners though.

This is a marketing nightmare.  I know they sell "pee" products in Northern S. American countries. You couldn't get me to buy this stuff.

Actress Natasha Richardson dies after skiing accident

The wife of actor Liam Neeson and member of the Redgrave theatrical family was 45.

By John Horn

6:03 PM PDT, March 18, 2009

Natasha Richardson, the luminous British actress from one of the world's great acting families, whose performances ranged from the high-brow drama "The Handmaid's Tale" to the lightweight comedy "The Parent Trap" and the Tony-winning Broadway production of "Cabaret," died Wednesday. She was 45.

The wife of "Schindler's List" actor Liam Neeson and the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and the late film director Tony Richardson died at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. The cause of death was not announced but she had been hospitalized after suffering a devastating brain injury while skiing Monday.

"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha," said a statement released by publicist Alan Nierob. "They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

It's the first day of spring and we've got snow.  Great!

I would suggest donating at least half to get rid of those tacky yellow stationary stars!

I donated my design services so this site could bring in more revenue but the designs apparently weren't good enough! :-/ I haven't felt that rejected since not getting accepted into SCPA for being lazy and drawing a salt and pepper shaker as a still life on the take home test.

I found 20 dollars in the hallway of a friend's apartment building a couple of weeks ago as I was leaving. At first I felt guilty taking it, but the people who live there are loaded (Madison Av. in Carnegie Hill), so I didn't think anyone would miss it!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!11!!!!! ;)

I actually work with a guy that said he likes to be able to see over other people.  That is one of the most selfish reasons I have heard.

I've heard this literally hundreds of times.  I don't get why they don't see that if EVERYONE ELSE has one too, you're not higher than other people.  women say the height makes them feel "safer" because they can see more of what's happening in traffic.

Apparently people don't know how to look up 3 degrees. I have a Porsche 944 and the IROC pictured at left. They are low and get incredible highway mileage (even the IROC, which has over 300 horsepower and a huge cam) and I don't have a problem except when boxed in by SUVs or freight -- no amount of pickup/SUV lift kits or 44" Gumbo Monster Mudder tires will let you see around a semi or box truck!

Got any pics?

Seriously, folks. Let's take this thread into worksafe mode.

yeah, let's boldly go where no man has gone before....safely back to dork zone.

i just had to wiki star trek for something and i came across this trivia. did anyone know they almost brought the original star trek back in the late 70's??? now you'd think everything would be known about that tv show by now, but i had no idea!

Star Trek Phase II

Star Trek: Phase II was set to air in June 1978 as the flagship series of a proposed Paramount Pictures television network, the Paramount Television Service, and 12 episode scripts were written before production was due to begin.[12] The series would have put most of the original crew back aboard the Enterprise for a second five-year mission, except for Leonard Nimoy as Spock, who did not agree to return due to legal disputes with Paramount (detailed in his autobiography, I Am Not Spock). A younger, full-blooded Vulcan named Xon was planned as a replacement, although it was still hoped that Nimoy would make guest appearances.[12] Sets were constructed and several minutes of test footage were filmed. However, the risks of launching a fourth network and the popularity of the then-recently released film Star Wars led Paramount to make a Star Trek film instead of a weekly television series. The first script of this aborted series ("In Thy Image") formed the basis of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, while two others ("The Child" and "Devil's Due") were eventually adapted as episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation during the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike.

best of all, check out this never used version of the enterprise...talk about you full-on 1970's design. so would the crew have worn loud, open collar polyester shirts, white pants & sansabelts?

Yes, I remember this, all because of the unexpected success of Star Wars.

i knew they green-lighted the 1st star trek movie because of star wars, but had no idea a tv show revivial was in the works.

i suppose all versions of the enterprise reflect their era, but that one is hilariously super70's-ish.

So yesterday, I learned just how much the recession has impacted professional sports after attending a Detroit Pistons game.  I've been going to games frequently since 2002, but have slowed going in the past 2 years because of grad school expenses.  I've been getting countless emails in the past few months pretty much begging people to come to the games.  The Palace stopped selling out naturally about 2 months ago.

Here's what I noticed

- My friend got tickets 10 rows behind the bench for only $22/each. The cost for the very last row in the upper deck was normally $12

- Less free stuff was given away.  No more free donuts or coffee contests from Dunkin Donuts, No free little pizzas.  Only thing thrown out was some foam core lottery tickets (none of them winners) and some cheap plastic basketballs.  I estimated a whopping total of $20 in prizes was given out.

- Excluding hats, only 8-10% of people were wearing Pistons or Clippers attire.  Compare this to about 85% of fans 2 years ago.  No one was wearing Iverson attire.  I was actually quite shocked at this, but maybe I shouldn't be since the cost of buying clothing and jerseys is really high.  This isn't recession attire.

- Advertising scrolling by on fascias and scoreboards were for companies I haven't heard of, small businesses, or large companies that just don't tend to advertise.

- The largest sponsor has switched from Rock Financial (a mortgage company) to National City Bank.  "The Pistons are now brought to you by National City"

- Awful paint schemes now adorn the interior of the palace.  It was actually a huge disappointment.  The interior always had a fresh appearance, but now they slapped red and blue up on some of the walls darkening the interior.  It feels really 80's.

- The stadium concourses had an odd smell of garbage.  Typically they have always smelled of roasted almonds.

- They no longer play mainstream music to liven the crowd.  They instead remade older songs, sung by someone they hired.  Basically I think they are trying to avoid the costs of purchasing and playing the music to large stadium crowds.  It was really annoying hearing a fat white dude singing thriller.

- Despite a pistons win, the energy of the crowd was incredibly weak.  Past games, crowds were really riled up slamming noisemakers together.

This Pistons have not been as good this year, but it's clear the economy has had more of an impact, especially in a metro that has been hurt the worst in this recession.

I've been noticing it with advertising. It seems like brands are attacking each other like crazy on tv. I can't remember what company it was but they literally said you would have to have the IQ of a retard to choose their  competitor.

Fort Wayne seems go be rediscovering its passion for sports. The opening game in the new downtown ballpark sold out completely within minutes of the beginning of on-line sales.

Gol-lee! Maybe we should try to bring the Pistons back to their birthplace while we're at it!

It'll be interesting to see if the salary caps decrease because of the economy (I can't see why they wouldn't). It'll come at a time when guys like LeBron and Dwyane Wade are in the free agent class. NBA probably stands to lose some money from broadcasting rights deals, apparel, etc. I know one thing, the superbowl this year left a lot to be desired.

I hope Hollywood doesn't suffer too much from the economy. I love movies. The writer's strike was bad enough.

No the NBA just cut staff and many franchises are "tightening" belts.

All professional sports are experiencing financial issues.  When the economy is good, people send.

They've been making a lot of cuts across the board.

Hollywood has been influx for years.  Just like recorded music, however, it hasn't been as easy to manipulate and personalize movies like music, until recently.

Lots of studios are moving to close "art house" studios and cutting back on acquisitions.  Many studios (under the same parent company) are consolidating services.

Studio's are also co-brading and sharing distribution of film.  20 Century might produce a movie and co-distribute with Sony, based on the content.

Now distribution channels, on rentals (partners closing such as Blockbuster and Circuit City) On Demand, mobile (itunes, amazon, etc.), DVD HD or BL have also become more difficult to manage.

I just realized, the one great thing about being an NCAA athlete at the moment is you get an excuse to not take an exam.....unlike me who will be present for tomorrow's class at noon circling A, B, C, or D, and picking three of the five essays.  Hell, I can't even get out of this crap for a job interview.
