April 4, 200916 yr lol I thought Northside neighborhood was seriously upscale compared to what I am used to. We already have been to the Northside tavern and loved it. The Big scooter BBQ is there tomorrow. Gone by Sunday afternoon. That sucks. I know you don't want to see anymore snow or cold, but one more day and the fun would be overwhelming! ;) Yeah, I love NST. Btw, calling Northside upscale is not something that would last too long around here without being corrected. :-D
April 4, 200916 yr I seriously wish I had more time for a proper tour from you guys. I think I only decided to do this this about a week out, so not much planning was put in place. I will try and take pics, although that ability may be limited on the scooter. I will try and remember where I go and post.
April 4, 200916 yr There are plenty of Obama bumper stickers around town, and I can honestly say, I've never abused one of the drivers! lol ... yeah, the county and city voted for Obama by majority. I am just a nut magnet then (I get harrassed on the far west side of Cleveland too). I am relieved this was a random thing. I was thinking we needed to peel it off lest we get pummelled and dragged to Kentucky or something.

April 4, 200916 yr I'm not assuming something stupid, and I'm not implying that nationality matters to you. You are!! You asked the question, when you could have gone to any news site, or googled it, and you would have learned they were taking their citizenship tests. Then again, maybe you did that, and the nationality wasn't made clear to you, so you asked it here. Again, I ask, Why does it matter? Given that the shootings were at an immigration center where people were taking a citizenship exam, I think the question about nationality is fair game... I wanted to know if there were a majority of people that this individual wrongly associated with job loss. And I read the article on CNN and it said nothing. NPR only reported that the shooter may have been Vietnamese. There are people on here that live in New York so, at least imo, they might have had some clue. You were the one implying there was something wrong with the question. You're right, it makes no difference in regards to the horrific nature of the crime. But it's important to understand if a specific group of people are being targeted and if they need to be more cognizant of being scape goats. Thank you, Buckeye.
April 4, 200916 yr Why do teenagers have so much damn energy?!!! I know we were a handful as kids but damn. It's like they've had one hour to recharge their batteries and they are up and ready to go. Where is the coffee?
April 4, 200916 yr Why do teenagers have so much damn energy?!!! I know we were a handful as kids but damn. It's like they've had one hour to recharge their batteries and they are up and ready to go. Where is the coffee? I know; it seems to peak around 13 or 14. I used to belong to a local cycling club, and in addition to our regular weekend and evening rides, we'd sponsor occasional community events. One was during Three Rivers Festival and involved a Century with optional shorter routes. I drove a sag wagon (van to render assistance or pick up riders who crapped out or broke down) for some of those. The ride was in July every year, usually hot and humid. About the sixty-mile mark, we'd start to find the college-age jock-boys with their colorful lycra and expensive Italian bikes in the shade of trees along the road or in front yards, completely wiped out. Then we'd pass some short, skinny thirteen-year-old chugging along on a beat-up wobbly-wheeled 35-pound Schwinn Varsity. He'd slip in behind the van and draft at 20mph for five or six miles until the next sag stop in a country churchyard, where he'd dump his bike in the grass and inhale a handfull of cookies and a banana. Then he was back on the bike and on the road. I worked with the dad of one of those kids and he said, "Yeah, and after he gets home he'll eat, shower, and head for the tennis court."

They went to bed at like 2 AM and were up at 5:30 AM. Too top, I come home yesterday to find 2 additional kids showed up for the weekend. They gave my cousin the impression that I was talking to her and said it was "OK" for her kids to come for the weekend. They've had an "agenda" every day this week. I'm like what more do you need to see? They wont tell me, they are like, get off the computer and lets go! I swear in the 8 days they have been here they have been to every damn neighborhood in the city along with Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, SI and Jersey. Pray for me..... I a mm being Kidnapped by savage teens. literally! heolp
April 4, 200916 yr What the hell happened in New York? 13 dead? What nationality were the people? This is crazy. My point was, the first rational question someone should ask would be: "How terrible, what were the circumstances; was this some sort of retaliation, or just some random psycho?" I just think its odd that your first expression of shock is towards nationality!
April 4, 200916 yr My point was, the first rational question someone should ask would be: "what were the circumstances...? Ummm... Are you not reinforcing the legitimacy of my question? Is it not rational to inquire about the victims? Is it not rational to inquire about a possible motive? Here, Lieutenant, From Webster's: a "motive is" 1. something that causes a person to act in a certain way, do a certain thing, etc.; incentive. 2. the goal or object of a person's actions: Her motive was revenge. When Hitler slaughtered millions of people, I guess it was not ok to ask if there were any similarities about the people he killed. My bad.
April 5, 200916 yr Is Uncle MTS footing the bill for everything? That wasn't the plan. They are here for my bday.
April 5, 200916 yr Yeah, I love NST. Btw, calling Northside upscale is not something that would last too long around here without being corrected. :-D That's what I like about Northside. It's a mixture of everything and people in the neighborhood look out for each other. It looks gritty and poor but there's quite a few people in the neighborhood with money including some politicians, they just aren't flashy yuppies. There's a realness to the neighborhood that you don't find in too many places.
April 6, 200916 yr Its Opening Day, and snowing by 10:00 Am I think they should tentatively schedule Red's Opening Day for first Sat-Sun-Mon of April and pick the best day weather-wise when the forescast develops.
April 6, 200916 yr Four last fails for good measure today.. this ought to cheer MTS out of his funk today.. Mmmm I want some of this: Good parenting: Must write for the PD: Wow:

April 6, 200916 yr I love that cookie too, it hurts my brain on so many levels. I hope it's at least chocolate chip.
April 6, 200916 yr ^Yes, because a cookie with that message without little spots all over it would just be wrong.
April 6, 200916 yr I actually laughed out loud at work to this one... That reminds me of the burger king where I used to live. They had a sign up that said "Angus Burger 2.99" or whatever, and some punk kid must have come along and took out the 'g' and moved the rest of the letters over. No one working there changed the sign for about 3 days. It was hilarious.

April 7, 200916 yr My sophomore year at CWRU, when they had the orientation signs out directing people where to go, someone vandalised a cardboard sign directing people to Strosacker Auditorium. The sign was made of cardboard and placed into a clear plastic upside-down V stand. They cut the sign as follows: Stro|sac|ker Auditorium and swapped the two pieces they cut. It came out perfectly (sacStroker Auditorium), you actually had to look closely to se the cuts in the cardboard. So I thought it was pretty funny when I ran across this article on the CaseWiki today: http://wiki.case.edu/Strosacker_Auditorium
April 7, 200916 yr I had a job several years ago wheere we all had trucks that we drove around for tech work. The one guy was an ex military guy who was really into telling stories about Vietnam and all he experienced etc. He was proud of himself. Sure why not. Anyhow, he had a bumper sticker on the back of his truck that said "Oorah" which we all know is the military chant. One of the jokesters changed the second "o" to a "p" while the guy was in the bathroom one morning. When he came out, we were all standing around his truck, and the one guy goes "Dude, I didn't know you liked Oprah that much. Kind of had to be there. It was hilarious. The guy went crazy.
April 7, 200916 yr I know this is off-topic, I wonder if maybe my UO people can help. Each year we end up owing the state several hundred dollars at tax time. We get a refund federally, but always owe on the state, whether we jointly file or file married/separately. We are both at the highest withholdings (zero) for state tax. What are we doing wrong? How can we fix it? Be kind - I am VERY clueless about tax stuff.

April 7, 200916 yr You didn't indicate how much the refund or the payment was. (and we don't need to know), but it is to your advantage to owe something on both fed and state. I'm not talking thousands, but certainly a few hundred would be manageable.
April 7, 200916 yr You can work with your respective payroll departments to step up your withholdings at the state level. They calculate it based on your number of exemptions. Like Dan said, though, while a refund is fun to get, it's basically an interest free loan to the government. If you can swing the couple hundred dollar payment at tax time, it's a better use of your money. You're also going to get another exemption this year, so you may not even owe anything next year. Unfortunately, that doesn't begin to offset the actual cost of having kids, but you know, any port in a storm...
April 7, 200916 yr I think the best thing is actually to come out even. That means they didn't take too much or too little of your money. That aside, given a choice, I'd rather get a little money back than have to pay, ever, so we try to err on the side of making that happen, hence the federal refund. But I don't see why we should have to pay the state several hundred every year. I want to fix it so we don't have to do this. If I can't get it to "even out," I would rather get $5 back from the state than owe $500 every year, but I can't figure out why it's happening.
April 7, 200916 yr Someone please explain this to me... I am begging anyone. I am trying to calculate percent changes in the number of violent crimes per year. Thus, here is a sample of my stats Year #Violent Crime x 100,000 1997 45 1998 50 1999 43 So, if I want to know the % change from 1997 to 1998, I simply divide 50 by 45, correct? The number I get is 1.11111. Therefore, the change in % will be 11% From 1998-1999, I divide 43 by 50, which equals .86. The % change will then be -14%, right? And yes, I am an idiot with numbers most of the time.
April 7, 200916 yr Much obliged, Neville. What's sad is that I did that stuff in my stats class this past summer... and I had to stare at the screen for a good 5 minutes before I figured it out...
April 8, 200916 yr Why is it that everything bad that happens with cars happens all at once? Mr. rockandroller's car has been in the shop nearly 2 weeks now because of engine component destruction caused by the cheap, sh*tty timing belt that the car was made with (which was mentioned in a "technical service bulletin" that it should be replaced early, but not recalled so they didn't have to notify anyone about it), and so he has been driving my car, which necessitates picking me up and dropping me off at the rapid station every day. Yesterday, while waiting at a red light on W. 25th, we got rear-ended, hard, by someone. My car actually withstood the impact very well, it just crunched the bumper in and the rear lights are all still working so we have to keep driving it until we get his car back, then mine will have to go into the body shop. We were waiting to get his back because I need to take mine in because of the "animal damage" that has started - the critters that live around our building like to eat cars, and it's now my turn - the insulation on the inside of the hood has all been chewed out and some rubber hosing and wires show signs of being chewed so we are crossing our fingers every day that the car just keeps running until we can get it into the shop, and now this. And yes, when you hit a car where an 8 months pregnant woman is the passenger, she gets plenty angry and scared. We had to wait over an hour for the cleveland police so we could file a police report, and then I spent my entire evening after that in the hospital last night on a fetal monitor. The adrenaline from the crash caused me to start having small but frequent contractions which they were able to get stopped with some medicine, but then I had to lie there most of the evening to make sure everything was calmed down. Not a fun night.
