May 28, 200916 yr Anyone seen any good movies recently? The last ones I went to the theater to see were Angels and Demons (which was pretty bad), Terminator Salvation (which I liked a lot) and Wolverine (which was awful, but entertaining). I thought Angels and Demons was ok. On an unrelated topic, I just got offered a new job. I'm still working at the same place and making the same salary, but its a different department on a different floor. Maybe this means I'll be a little less bored with my work and spend more time doing it instead of playing on the internet. Congrats on the new job, although more money would've been nice, I'm sure. I didn't outright hate Angels and Demons. I just didn't like it all that much. I was still entertained.

YES, watch Doubt ... great movie! I forgot the directors name, but I think this is his first film??? He's used to shows on Broadway. You didn't like Angels and Demons? Anyone see Valkyrie? It should be arriving today from Netflix on Blu-Ray! doubt is fierce!! The scene with viola & meryl almost made me cry. It was just pure power!

May 28, 200916 yr Hi everyone! I am finally home from the hospital and just wanted to check in and say hi. For those who are interested, here are some details; if you don't care or are grossed out easily, you can stop reading now. :-D C-section last Sat was a pretty extensive surgery due to my GI surgical history so there were like 20 people in the OR including a colo-rectal surgeon who assisted my OB with the C. They excised some scar tissue from my previous surgery and ended up taking a lot of organs out to check that things were ok inside me (I have a J-pouch; google it). Recovery has been painful and slow, partly because I refused all narcotic drugs post operatively because my baby is very, very sleepy and was having trouble staying awake to try to learn to eat (BF) and stuff like percocet just makes that even worse, so all I had in the hospital was a strong NSAID (Toradol) and alternated that with regular Tylenol. I also usually get very sick on narcotics and either the morphine in my spinal or the heavy dose of NSAID screwed up my stomach pretty bad and I ended up vomiting the day after surgery; this is not fun on the abdominals, let me tell you. Finally came home yesterday around noon and things are much improved though I am still in a lot of pain, but it's always more tolerable when you're home and around your own things. Baby came out pink and healthy and a good weight despite all the worry the doctors had in the last weeks that he wasn't gaining enough. He dropped a lot of weight in the hospital due to the feeding problem but as of today that seems to be resolving and he looks great.

May 29, 200916 yr From Wikipedia: The music video for "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was directed by Russell Mulcahy. It was story-boarded by Jim Steinman and drew inspiration from the film Futureworld. The Gothic themed video features Bonnie Tyler clad all in white, apparently having a dream or fantasy about her students in a boys' boarding school. Young men are seen dancing and participating in various school activities such as swim team, fencing, football, and singing in a choir. The video was shot at Holloway Sanatorium.

May 30, 200916 yr Hey I went to a thrift store today and in with the board games was this Cleveland trivia game. I opened it and looked at some of the questions - they were hard. Stuff like "In what year did the last trolley stop running through Cleveland". I wish they made a game like that for Columbus or Cincinnati.
May 31, 200916 yr ^If/when you ever meet someone from England, ask them to pronounce "aluminum". It's hilarious.

June 4, 200916 yr OMG, my friend posted a picture of his "New Cincinnati Mascot" online: http://www.onlinegalleries.com.au/users/danieldricken/#/gallery/1/1 The sculpture is actually mine. He made it for me because I love the city. In case you don't see it, it's a mould of his penis, then sculpted to look like a flying pig and poured in bronze.
June 4, 200916 yr Isn't it also spelled different? aluminium Yes, both spellings are accepted. On a different note, have you ever skimmed over a thread for the first time in a while, re-read some posts to try and figure out how the discussion got to where it is and noticed that someone made a completely ignorant comment about a month ago but no one called them on it, and then gotten conflicted over whether you should correct them, even though the discussion has completely moved on?
June 4, 200916 yr i talked to my brother in lorain today and asked what was up and he said oh a guy was yelling and running around crazy in his apt building last night and later on he jumped out his 10th fl window and died. sorry i asked... :|
June 7, 200916 yr Hi all. Now that our little small fry is born, I think we should consult with some kind of accountant or tax professional to figure out how we should adjust our withholdings and such. I am CLUELESS about stuff like this and have no resource to find a good accountant, we always take our taxes to some place like H&R block or similar and now that things are a little more complicated, we need someone who is more like a financial advisor or something. does anyone know of any kind of good company or referral service to find someone like this? I have no idea how to go about finding someone good. Or if you know of someone who is DT or W side and want to refer them, you can send me their info via PM.
June 7, 200916 yr Turbotax will give you all you need. No need to pay someone to do it for you. Get yourself a copy of turbotax and just read up in preparation. The W-4 form itself will help with figuring your exemptions. Remember, its always good to come out even, or owe a little. No sense letting the IRS hold your money all year. How's everything going? Everyone sleeping at night? Do you have a family member giving you a little help? That can always be a mixed blessing!

I guess the wee one already needs to earn (his or her?) keep. I have to say we have had some good and bad H&R block experiences, one so outrageously so at the Ohio City office we complained to corporate. We were then sent to an awesome preparer in Brooklyn to make it right. She picked up on a lot things we never knew would make a difference. She also takes the time to play with many different scenerios with our returns and try and see who should take what deduction and if we should file seperatley (yes in our case). She does more than be a clerk just plugging in numbers . We have used her for the last 3 years and things have turned out well for us. I have put all our info into Turbo tax before and ended up with awful outcomes so I never submitted a return through them. If you want the name of the H&R block person PM me (may take a few days to get back as I have not been on here much) I believe she only works in season. Again, congrats!

Everyone sleeping at night? Do you have a family member giving you a little help? That can always be a mixed blessing! Thanks Dan. I really cannot express to you how much I do not want to DIY this particular route. I am looking for financial planning advice not just "how many exemptions do I claim" type of stuff, I just don't think tax prep software is going to give me the advice I want. I need to be able to lay out our options and financial picture to someone who can say ok you should do this but you shouldn't bother with that, etc. Baby still has his nights and days backwards, we are working hard on getting that turned around but it is very, very tiring. Just when we think we have some things figured out and we have a couple of good nights, we have a night of fussing and inconsolable screaming. But overall things are trending towards getting a lot better. I am lucky I have the time to take off work and devote 24/7 to the little one as it really is a constant job. Going out to the store to pick something up, the 3 of us, is a major, major undertaking. As we are still establishing BFing, we have not introduced bottles or pacifiers at all so I am at the baby's beck and call and he eats anywhere from every 30 minutes to every 1.5 hours. I never sleep longer than 1.5 hours at a stretch and it can be draining. However, I've had very good support. The first week, my sister came in from WI and stayed with us, she and I stayed up and pulled the night shift taking turns soothing the baby while mr. RNR slept. This week (week 2), mr. RNR took off work and we worked out a schedule where I nap in the afternoon and again in the middle of the evening and then he stays up til about 11 or midnight, then I take over for the night shift. Right now the baby is sleeping in the pack and play in the living room and I sleep on the couch. Sometimes it works well (baby eats, is burped, and goes back down without a fuss and I go back to sleep on the couch), sometimes I end up being up all night long because as soon as I put him down he screams. They don't have the ability to self-soothe at this early age and he is going through his first growth spurt already (gained back to his birth weight plus a couple of ounces already) so he is pretty fussy right now, but I know it will get better eventually and we can work on sleep training him when he's a little older. but it is tough, as I knew it would be. Showering and getting clean clothes on and my teeth brushed is a big accomplishment. And when days and nights run together, it's hard to remember when you last brushed your teeth or washed your hair or whatever. My mom is close by and has come by to relieve both of us so I can nap and mr. RNR can run errands. He goes back to work this week so mom will be around more to help me out.
June 8, 200916 yr Sounds typical! Don't worry, before you know it, he'll be sneaking out at night and hanging around with that little witch down the street!
June 8, 200916 yr LOL, I know, I keep saying stuff like "just think, it won't be long before he's slamming the door to his room and screaming that he hates us, honey!" :)
June 8, 200916 yr Congrats RnR! Our first daughter was and awful sleeper for the first couple months. Then we discovered having her sleep in her car seat/pumpkin seat solved that. You should try that. With the rest of the kids, we did that when they were infants and never had a problem again.
June 8, 200916 yr Yeah, he does sleep in the car seat but when it's 2/3/4am and I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, I think it's probably not a good idea to get behind the wheel. :)
June 8, 200916 yr Season 1 is awesome. Only have watched a few clips from Season 2, not as impressed with it.
June 9, 200916 yr Kaka signed for Real Madrid last night/this morning for a record 56 million GBP or ~92 million USD transfer fee.
June 9, 200916 yr Yeah, he does sleep in the car seat but when it's 2/3/4am and I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, I think it's probably not a good idea to get behind the wheel. :) Don't drive him around, just put him in the car seat, set the car seat in the crib, and walk away. Seriously, it worked for us. The pediatrician actually recommended it to us for our first kid.
June 10, 200916 yr Remind me to never live next to elevated trains. I can't take it anymore. There's an elevated rail line a block from my apartment with a bad turning radius. Every hour GRINDING METAL DEATH sound. It sounds like 5 New York subways stopping all at once for 10 minutes. They only come by at night, and I've managed to record it, so maybe i can find a way to post.
June 11, 200916 yr Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for a new record $130 million transfer http://www.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/football/06/11/ronaldo.real.madrid.manchester/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
June 12, 200916 yr HAHAHA, Kingfish, I just noticed your quote on another thread. Thank you for spreading herid idiocy.
June 15, 200916 yr Lots of promise in the future when I read stuff like this. http://www.engin.umich.edu/newscenter/feature/solarcar/ Keep in mind, of course, the technology is still very expensive and I'm not sure what other electrical systems are powered (if they exist like power steering). Still, I believe they removed 1 meter in length from the newer car, which means less solar surface is actually supplying more energy to this faster vehicle. It really goes to show green technology is improving.
June 15, 200916 yr The aerospace technology is probably a ways off in terms of high-volume production at consumer-market prices, but the thing that caught my attention is a motor that peaks at 98% efficiency. That's impressive, and electro-mechanical devices usually lend themselves to rapid advances in volume manufacturing techniques that bring down costs and bring about broad-based implementation.
