Beekman runs alongside the tracks on the west side of the Millcreek Valley.  Very industrial, very rundown, not known for being the safest neighborhood.  Check out the abandoned building across the street on Google street view.

ooh dan, her dress is beautiful!

Thanks!

Dan what a lovely wedding and reception.

I hate to admit this, but I had to tell you guys this.  Now, you kids know I love spicy foods.  Well MTS met his match.

I had to got to Charleston to shot a commercial.  While there I saw a commercial or ad for the best and hottest spicy rolls.  I think, "me must try".

I was talking to some of the commercial people, the director and some people on the set, and they also had heard of it and wanted to try. So we head over.  The place is packed.

They have a Spicy Tuna Roll Challenge.  Its a progressive challenge.  The rolls get hotter as you go along.  You have 10 rolls and you must eat them in one sitting.

The rolls are named, this is from memory

1  "Ghost Rider"

2  "The Beast"

3  " Phoenix"

4  "Banshee"

5  "Sonic scream"

6  "The Gambit"

7  "Dark Phoenix"

8  "Red Skull"

9  "The Torch"

10 "The Punisher"

I made it 3/4 thru the Dark Phoenix, before I gave up.  I couldn't feel my face.  My lips, throat, nose, teeth, eyes were in so much pain.  I was sweating like I ran a marathon.  My nose was running, eyes watering (and those are usually good things) my head was on fire!  I was shaking the rolls were so hot.  It was so hot I was cursing in Spanish.

It was fun, but not for amateurs.

I told my mom, brother and nephew and they were like, if you didn't eat it, it had to be hot.  This was so hot, I dont think my mom could finish this.

This is an article on the challenge:  http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/charleston/real-men-take-the-spicy-tuna-roll-challenge-at-bushido/Content?oid=1113915

Haha, they're all named after Marvel characters.  I love it!

My mouth is still a little numb.

I will earn my headband though.

I think I'll try to swallow them whole next time or do very little chewing.

I can usually handle the mouth and throat pain when it comes to hot foods.  My stomach just can't handle it.  The acidity levels in spicy foods kill me dead.

Thats why I said that challenge is not for amatuers.  My face was on fire.  This was more intense than the Roasted Scorpions I had in China.  I just knew I could handle it. However, those rolls are no joke!

The funny thing about those challenges is that your taste buds can only register a certain amount of flavor.  I don't know the technical measurements, and obviously everyone's tongue is different, but there is a limit to what we as humans can experience.

It's the same thing with IBU's (international bitterness units) in beer.  A current trend in American craft beer is to brew it as hoppy as possible, but the human threshold is about 100 IBU's, thus rendering beers advertised as having IBU's higher than that useless and purely for marketing purposes.

"Hotness" of food doesn't come from acid, though that's a common misconception.  It's a chemical compound known as caspacin.

Well, for the last 6 months, I have been joking with my daughter that all of the wedding planning was going to give me a heart attack.  I missed it by one week!  Chest pains, cold sweats, vomiting Sat. evening watching the UC game.  Finally went away, but wife insisted we go to the hospital.  They say it was minor, if there is any such thing.  At least no surgery is planned, and I should get to go home in a few days.  I guess I should learn to keep my mouth shut!  time for a few life style changes.  At least I had this before Obama's health care changes go into effect!

Oh, I know.  I didn't say the heat comes from acid, I said a lot of spicy foods have high acidity levels.

And DanB, did they check you out for GERD?

Yes, but its not a problem I've experienced.  That is what was so strange about these symptoms.  I NEVER have heartburn or indigestion, and even though I work on brands which prevent or aleviate the symptoms, I really don't know what they are.  In fact, it was more of a pressure than pain, and I said to myself, that this may be what people experience when they say they have heartburn.

After vomiting, I felt much better, and without my wife's insistance, I may not have done anything about it.  I guess I may have awakened dead the next morning!  The MD explained this morning, that the blocked artery is called the widowmaker!  My wife just shook her head, and told the MD she wished she knew that before she did anything about it.  I'm reluctant to put my cardiac rehab in her hands!

So you do have a blocked artery?  That's no joke, man.  Are they just going to put you on blood thinners to try to get it work itself out?

They did the cardiac cath and put in a couple of stints.  Yeah, although minor, still very serious.  I have to joke about it tho.

Scary situation, DanB.  We're all glad that the prognosis seems good, though.

Dan B....take care of yourself.

You were so close to having a funeral at a weddding.

Same venue...Same guest list..only difference is the guest of honor gets to leave the church walking.

Take care Dan B.

Well, the most important thread is now cleaned!  I need a nap!!

Everyone on UO owes DanB a beer...

That's a lot of beer.  Thanks DanB!!!

It might take that much to realize how boring my life is these days!

First, WTF is the point of a model.  It's a miniature, less detailed, closed version of my digital model, only it takes 15 times the amount of time to build and it's not adaptable.  I hate this.

Second, DanB, I love you.

By REUTERS 6:41 PM ET

An earthquake sent waves over the Samoa islands, reportedly killing about 14 people but falling short of a regional disaster. Above, Christopher Moore of NOAA.

I just overheard someones radio in the office mention that Wedge is getting fired at the end of the season and I can't find an Indians thread.

Also, I don't feel like making a new thread since, I'm assuming we have one somewhere in hiding.

I was excited about the idea of the games coming to the mid-west with Chicago, but between events I'd much rather look at the scenery of Brazil than Illinois. Plus, Rio knows how to throw a party.

I know.  Its the first Olympics in a South American country.  Everyone knew Rio would get it.

Well they wont be showing them on the Tellie!  LOL

It was like a massive cloud sucked the energy out of everyone in Chicago today.  I just wanted to go home.  Our office building lobby was decked out in Olympic banners in stuff.  Some people in our office were even in Copenhagen.

I'll still watch the games in Rio, who knows maybe i'll travel there as well.  But what is really upsetting is this meant alot more to us because it was the chance to fix our city's  problems with a lot more organized help.... Repair our antique transit system, build more affordable housing, improve more parks, and most importantly put more people to work.  For the 2016 Olympics, we needed architects, engineers, planners, construction workers, event organizers, hotel staff, police officers, and so on.  Granted, those people will always be needed, but for anyone skilled in these jobs looking for work right now, this would have been the immediate opportunity during a difficult time.  Now it's back to business as usual.

Yeah, they have more than  enough hotels. That's an awesome city to host the olympics in.

I'm glad they'll be in Rio. Time for something different to get on the stage for a change.

After over a year of looking, 500+ properties in our rejects tab (in our defense, many of these were townhouses, cluster homes, or homes that didn't fit our basic criteria of things like # of bathrooms, having a basement and a fireplace, etc.) and having been physically in over 100 homes so far, I've decided that it's not that there are no homes we love here, we just can't afford the ones we really, really love and I can't bring myself to invest in a house I'm not totally in love with.  I thought for awhile there just aren't any homes in this area that we like, but then I found this one.  *dreams*

I sure do feel bad for Chicago and their poor, antiquated light rail and Metra system...not to mention the loads of people living in the city and being the hub for passenger rail for the entire midwest.

If only Chicago could be more like Detroit.  :-P

It looks like a "man cave". I assume renovations will take place, yes?

The kitchen is straight out of the Brady bunch.  In regard to decor, that kitchen is not as bad as my old kitchen but it's a close second, it's totally psychedelic and groovy baby!
