The only renovations I would do if I won the lottery and could buy that house would be to get rid of the outdoor pool and put in a big garden.

Oh.  I thought you were serious about buying that house.

For $750K?  WTF do you think I do for a living?  Dude, I'm a PEON.

I didn't even look at the price, that outdated piece of crap house is seriously listed at $750k???

Yup.  I love that house, stop insulting it! :)

Please if that piece of crap in westlake is asking $750, I'm going to put my condo on the market for 1M!

They shouldn't have been allowed to build things in the '70's.

ohhhhhh, *dies*  I want one!

That's all!

*sigh*  I was just born a little too late.  I don't belong here.

If you have a private indoor and outdoor pool with 5 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms on over 2 acres, then go for it.

No pool, but I've got the shaker lakes out back. :P  4 bedrooms, 2 master suites, three full baths, radiant heat, formal living and dining rooms, sun room and laundry room approved by (media darling, trendy-hipster, celebutant) DocBroc!

has anyone thought about moving to Painesville? :wtf:(stop laughing!) It's really not that bad (well, you know... :|), and I'm guessing you can get a lot more for your money than you would in Shak. Hts! or certainly NY, where this same place--recently on the market and well under 1M--would cost 4 to 5 times that. As a matter of fact, this is probably without question the nicest home in town for sale, and I would hate to see it purchased for commercial development, as it's also being offered: http://www.830mentoravenue.com/

Painesville?

come to think of it, a home like this would be unsuitable for the nouveau riche. Sorry.

Painesville would be about the LAST place I would move if I had to list all the areas in the greater cleveland area there are to move to.  Aren't they in the absolute worst part of the snowbelt?  I worked next to a girl that lived there and it was amazing the stories of her commute in vs. mine coming from the W. At times, they are almost like completely different states, weather-wise.  (The weather is my #1 reason I don't completely enjoy living in Cleveland).

LMAO!  Actually the interiour of the house reminds me of my parents home, we have beams similar to that in our foyer/main entry.

As rockandroller said, they get walloped a lot worse with snow - and when you have a 30 mile drive to downtown? That's a LOT of time spent behind the wheel and I loathe commuting. The absolute furthest I could move from the general downtown vicinity would be 8-10 miles and even that's pushing my limit.

Amen Deacon MayDay!  I totally agree.

actually, it's near it. I think the area just south--Chardon--gets a even more snow (it's been ages since I've been back in winter!). I remember weather reports growing up and the east side generally always got a lot more snow, especially the far east. The commute wouldn't be a picnic. To think that at one time there were streetcars (!) traveling from Cleve. to P'ville and beyond!! http://ech.cwru.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=CPE

Seriously that house is under a Million in Painesville? Wow.

Personally I am a sucker for the Gold Coast area of Cleveland/Lakewood.

Its 8k square feet.  It's huge.  Looks like it has a beautiful lawn and garden.

yeah, although if you do buy it (ha ha), there won't be too many neighboring homes like it. Actually, I think there are only 2 others, and they're all located in a walled compound near Lake Erie College, which is generally a nice neighborhood (the YMCA, in an old mansion, is nearby, as are some funeral homes and churches), but the area to the north is bordering on "ghetto." (at least as I remember it). Before regular people started moving to Painesville, it was sort of a genteel escape for rich Clevelanders (1800's and turn of last century). To be perfectly honest, I doubt at this point anyone with the bucks required to buy this home would live in Painesville City, which is why it's being offered commercially also.

Mayday's dream house in lakewood is listed at $1.5 and it is no where near as large as that house or as impressive. That Pville house is 8k sqft withOUT the 3rd floor suite. WoW!

That's not my dream house - though I do like the "compound" feel of it with the iron fence! I'm already in 3K sq. ft. (not including a finished basement); I've told my partner that our next place will be smaller.

Sad because it's a gorgeous home, but the maintenance and utilities have got to be a b---h!

I know what my parents pay for monthly gas in winter so I can only imagine that the additional 2k square feet would be another 150-175 bucks a month.

It takes a lot to maintain a big house, interior alone.  That is why I don't want one!

Is your condo on one of the middle floor by chance? You could be like on my buddies in college who went the whole winter (Athens winter, not cleveland winter big difference there) without turning his heat on in his middle floor apartment. He sponged off the heat in the units below and above. He said he basically had at least one sweatshirt, if not more and a stocking cap on while he was at home.

I know what the gas bill is in my 2400 sqft foursquare, I can't imagine what it is for that house, even with updated HVAC.

If you could afford a house like that, the heat bill is not a concern, I'm thinkin'.

It becomes a concern.  Also, we all know many people that bought above their means or didn't properly budget for a house the size they bought.

If you could afford a house like that, the heat bill is not a concern, I'm thinkin'.

Depending on the HVAC, insulation and airtightness, the gas budget on a place like that could be 20-40% of the mortage payment. Old houses can be a B!tch to heat!

(With new windows, sort of insulated attic and an old boiler my budget is between 20 and 25% of my mortage payment. I am installing a new boiler very soon)

Amen.  My father tells my mom to put on a sweater and stop complaining about the snow.

I remember when my brother, skank-in-law and three oldest kiddies lived with my parents, the heating bill around the holidays was easily $750 for the month.

It seems we have a squatter living with us!  She doesn't scare easily either!

Some people need to clear out their mail boxes.  How can i respond to your lovely PM if your mailbox is full?

TGIF.  Today is my "Miranda Priestly Micro Managing" day! I can be a total bitch in the office today.  My staff has done a wonderful job of implementing new programs, marketing our products and brands and putting on some amazing events.  I've praised them and given bonuses....Now it's time to flip the script.

Gotta keep the kids motivated so today I'll spend "quality time" with staff members.  I like to go into peoples offices and go over project "line by line".

  • I just called my teams in LA & Dallas and asked, "Why is no one answering the phone during business hours??"
  • The DC &  EMEA offices are scrambling to put together layouts for an Obama piece.
  • I told my assistant to stop off at Barney's for some "things" before coming to the office.
  • The Toronto Team thinks I'm coming up for a day trip.  So I know they are sh!tting bricks.
  • The SVPs need to have a project release list by Division and distributor by 9:15 AM and they have 15 minutes to present.
  • I told my boss to review and sign off on a proposal and I want it by the time I reach the office.  I'm sure he thinks it's in his office, but it's sitting in my file cabinet. >:D

Now I just need something for the creative team.

Nothing like shaking the kids up on a Friday!  >:D

Guard your loins kids - It's going to be a bumpy ride!

I don't know. "Guard your loins" made me think maybe MTS does have something in mind for his creative team already!

"Guard your loins kids - It's going to be a bumpy ride!"

If you're going to mishmash your movie quotes, at least get them right.

It's "gird your loins" and "it's going to be a bumpy night". At least Meryl Streep wouldn't flub her lines like that.

I've heard "it's going to be a bumpy ride" several times in movies. Maybe you're just thinking of different movies. And if I worked for MTS, considering some of the stories he's told, guarding my loins would be perfectly appropriate when he's on a rampage, accurate to the traditional usage of the phrase or not.

MTS, I'm SO glad I don't work for you.

You should be glad, too.

One of these days, when a division isn't living up to expectations, you should announce a visit a few days ahead of time.  Plan for an afternoon arrival.  Set up a delivery for the morning before your arrival- a box of athletic protectors- 1 for each employee in the office.  That'll send a message.

Rob, I'll second that...

I am sooo glad here that I don't work for you, too.

I'm really glad that i didn't try to get a job with MTS and by some miracle passed his rigorous interview process and gotten hired only to be fired weeks (maybe months) later for lack of drive, focus, grooming, ability, etc.

He's all talk.....

[i like to go into peoples offices and go over project "line by line".]

Ugh.  The line I'd show you is my middle finger going up.  :)

MTS would fire me in two weeks or less, but what fun it would be until then.

After several years on a job I liked and did well, working for a manager who had mastered the delicate art of simultaneously maintaining good morale among subordinates and delivering stellar results to the higher-ups, I fell vicitim to a division restructuring. I was assigned to a department where the boss maintained control by keeping everyone on edge. If he had a major presentation coming up for division or corporate execs, he wouldn't give any of us a heads-up so that we could start preparing the data and presentation materials in advance. He'd spring it on us about two days before, so that we could pull consecutive all-nighters getting it all together.

He'd involve us in long, drawn-out, unfocused, unproductive meetings for hours at a time in a small, poorly-ventilated conference room and blow smoke at us both literally and figuratively and put us behind schedule in important tasks. I didn't feel so bad about falling asleep in one of his meetings after I saw a visiting high-dollar corporate consultant doze off.

Intra-company transfers were frozen for our division, so I started an outside job search; it took more than a year to turn up a solid, competitive offer, and whenever I tried to inform my boss in person of my impending departure, he didn't have time to see me. I typed up a letter of resignation giving my final day and put it in his inbox two weeks in advance, and it languished there until a couple of days before my leaving, when he picked it up and put it in his briefcase as he left for a week-long business trip. He read it on the airplane and by the time he got back, I was gone, taking with me a critical set of skills that he hadn't allotted time for me to transfer to anyone else.

That job taught me another skill set that came in handy on a couple of subsequent jobs; I learned to gauge just how far I could go pushing buttons without crossing the line. I always exceeded expectations in job performance, but twice in a different corporate environment, I got bosses who messed with subordinates partly for control and partly for sadistic fun. One was so bad that numerous complaints to HR by subordinates got him transferred out, and the other finally gave up on me and just let me do my job. He also gave me first dibs on out-of-town assignments, just to get me out of his sight.

Bubbles (I'm having an Edina moment), I wrote it that way ON purpose!

I'm really a nice boss, but everyone shots for you when you're No. 1.  I've got to keep the team, focused, motivated and on their toes.

I'm really glad that i didn't try to get a job with MTS and by some miracle passed his rigorous interview process and gotten hired only to be fired days weeks (maybe months) later for lack of drive, focus, grooming, ability, etc.

I fixed that for you.  Nobody gets hired in my departmetns unless I've personally met with them.  I need to know what makes them tick and build a professional relationship with them.  I like to know my peeps interests personally and professionally.  Whatever it takes to make their job easier and to help them fill their professional goals, I'm down for.

Not one person in my department is more important than the next person. You're only as good as your weakest link.

Do You Know Why I Hired You?

He's all talk.....

Please they were petrified and I heard the security gaurd call my assistant when I walked thru the security gates.

My 2nd assistant is the only person who didn't fall for it.  He clocked me!  He called me and said, "I know your up to no good.  Don't try it with me today."

[i like to go into peoples offices and go over project "line by line".]

Ugh.  The line I'd show you is my middle finger going up.  :)

Only my old assistant can get away with that.  He knows too much.  Anyone else, I'd make an example of!  :whip:

Hell my boss is still looking for the proposal.  His four assistants are going crazy looking for it.  I'm so mean!

MTS, did you get all of that out of your system today?
