October 27, 200915 yr I know I can get a new one, I'd just like to continue to use this one if there was a way to fix it. Stuff 'em full o' rope, and use it for a guest bed. Company won't overstay their welcome! LOL, we can't have any company stay unless they want to sleep on the floor. I sleep on the couch about half the night every night with the baby, and our "spare" room is now the baby's room.
October 28, 200915 yr This weekend I awoke to a kitchen gushing with water. Apparently the new dishwasher I got a few months ago, was installed such that the braided hot water feed hose hugged the floorboards; over time the hose was compromised from the vibration of running the dishwasher. It was a disaster to say the least, I spent a lot of time with the shop-vac. My insurance guy gave me the rundown this evening and... Half the first level floors, destroyed Kitchen island, destroyed Kitchen cabinets, destroyed Kitchen drywall, destroyed Half the basement ceilings, destroyed Half the basement floors, destroyed Half the basement drywall, destroyed Tomorrow they're going to pack up my china cabinets and find out if my dinning room floor needs replaced. The good news, my kitchen was out of date by about 20yrs as far as design and size anyway.
October 28, 200915 yr Some random plumber contracted by random big box home improvement retailer, so I'm in the clear, and the insurance company has someone else to harass.
October 28, 200915 yr Wow! That's a lot of damage! A few months ago, a flex connector under my kitchen sink blew. I had only been out of the house a hour or so, and when I came up the back steps, I heard water rushing. When I opened the back door, water came out. My house is 1860s, and fortunately the addition with the kitchen has a floor that's about an inch lower than the rest of the house. It's at the very back, and the floor is sheet vinyl, so the water never got into anything else except a little leaked through to the unfinished basement and down the floor drain. The cabinets are 1950s Mullins by Youngstown (enameled steel), and they weren't phased. All I had to do was clean up with the shop vac and fix the plumbing. I had put in a bunch of those PVC flex connectors years ago when I was remodeling and lost my job, just so I could get moved in. I planned to replace them, but forgot about it. I count myself lucky that it wasn't one in the upstairs bathroom. The next day, I went out and bought all stainless-steel burst-proof connectors and replaced all the old ones.
October 28, 200915 yr Ironically, the other day we noticed water leaking in the basement. After testing everthing above, we narrowed it down to the dishwasher. It is clean water, and it is only leaking when the dishwasher is running. We have no water on the kitchen floor, nothing under the sink. The hot water line to the dishwasher is not accessable from under the sink, and there is no shutoff valve i can find. I'm guessing that the line is not broken since we don't have continuous water running, so it must be coming from the dishwasher itself, leaking after the pump? Any ideas? Haven't had a chance to get into it yet, probably this weekend.
October 28, 200915 yr You just reminded me that I need to write down that the original shutoff valve to my dishwasher doesn't work. I initially shutoff the water at the Water Heater outlet. Later I tried to isolate the dishwasher and ended up starting up the flood again momentarily. Fortunately the worn through flex tube has it's own cutoff before it went up to the dishwasher from the basement, so I can still take a hot shower.

October 30, 200915 yr Is "outland" a good restaurant in Columbus? Do you have to make reservations? I need to know soon; we might go there. I'm trying to find info about it online.
October 30, 200915 yr Nevermind, it's actually more of a bar anyway. Scratch that. We're going to Terrorfest in the Brewery District and I'm not that familiar with the restaurants around there.
October 31, 200915 yr My landlord keeps banging on his bongo drums upstairs. I'm never gonna get anything done tonight. I can't be mad because he already warned that it would be like this. I have to admit though, he's one of the most interesting landlords I've ever had. He left these Van Gogh sunflower paintings in the unit when I moved in along with this abstract painting of circles. I think it inspired this huge circular sunflower garden he made in the backyard. He has a Salvador Dali mustache! He drives this old school mercedes sedan; I bet it runs on vegetable oil. Next time he starts it up I'm gonna walk outside and see if it smells like french fries. You have my sympathy. My little building is infested with NYU students and sound travels easily between apartments even with normal living noise. My extremely quiet next door neighbor of the past few years just moved out (a very young and rising actress whos been featured in several movies, critically acclaimed Broadway & off-B'way plays--nominated for a Tony award a couple of years ago--and starred in an HBO series), but I'm surprised she stayed as long as she did, given her success and the high turnover of tenants generally. But the best thing about her was that she was away for half the year; and quiet as a mouse even when she was home. Im dreading who will move in! Ugh! He's cool! I let him do his thing and don't complain. We all need a creative outlet. I'm blasting Tom Petty and Stevie Ray Vaughan right now; he can't say anything (he wouldn't anyway though). He's really laid back.

He's really laid back. but don't you have other neighbors who might not appreciate your musical selections, especially at ear-shattering levels?? Well there's huge razed lots on 2 sides of me. 70 percent of the buildings on my street and the street behind me were demo'ed. If the buildings still existed they might help drown out the noise of the loud bars nearby that play music outside. I have neighbors to the right who play loud music occasionally too; I can hear it but the noise just doesn't bother me since it doesn't happen every day and it's a detached building. The only thing that bothers me and my neighbors are the bars. I listen to a wide variety of music - one day it might be Jay-Z, the next it could be The Doors. The bars play the same played out songs on an outdoor speaker, like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Benny and the Jets". EVERY night. Don't get me wrong, I love Journy and Elton John but they need to either play a wider variety of songs or take down their outdoor speakers. They should probably just take out their stupid speakers.
November 1, 200915 yr So, I got a little tipsy last night and in my drunken stupor I bought a ticket to Cincinnati. Haha, it's non-refundable so I guess I'll be there at 4:30am tomorrow. Today I bought a return ticket leaving downtown at 1:30am on Tuesday. So I guess, if anyone's bored send me a message. I'll just be wandering town all day.

November 1, 200915 yr from gothamist blog -- things that make you go hmmmwtf? Ivy League Law Grad Torches 9/11 Chapel Acting on a dare, a drunk Harvard Law School grad allegedly set fire to a chapel yesterday that houses the remains of unidentified victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The perp — identified as 26-year-old Brian Schroeder — broke into Memorial Park near the corner of First Avenue and East 30th Street and set the blaze at around 9 am. The fire did not get to the remains, which are kept in climate-controlled containers awaiting advances in DNA technology that might allow them to be identified, but notes, photos, flowers, and other mementos inside the white-tented sanctuary were either stolen or burned. Schroeder turned himself in to police last night. The facility is typically closed to everyone except for the families of 9/11 victims, so it's unclear exactly how the suspect even got into the shrine. One of Schroeder's relatives said the suspect — who moved to New York to pursue a job with a law firm — didn't set the blaze because of political motives. "With all my experiences with [him], he didn't have any radical agenda. Nothing but a good person," the source told the Post. "It's clearly out of his character and I'm sure he feels for the victims' families." The bodies will eventually be moved to the World Trade Center Memorial, which is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 11, 2011 — that is, if it isn't delayed again. Reply | November 1, 2009 12:42 PM He might want to reconsider his relationship with sanity. Reply | November 1, 2009 1:11 PM It's probably safe to say that his position with a law firm is, um, "being reconsidered" as we speak. Or to use Trumpspeak: You're fired. Reply | November 1, 2009 12:45 PM Funny how the elitist media works. The NYpost article mentions he is a HLS grad, as well as undergrad from Duke, but the NY Times makes No mention of Hahvard. This is just one way they try to keep the prestige of their school so high. Reply | November 1, 2009 1:01 PM http://gothamist.com/2009/11/01/ivy_league_law_grad_torches_911_cha.php

November 2, 200915 yr Just went into the Lycoming County Courthouse in Downtown Williamsport for a research project. It replaced the gorgeous courthouse around 1969. I guess the drugs were really bad in the 60's because they couldn't build sh!t for the next 10-15 years. I wish they never demolished the original. Gahhh. Sorry, I had to rant, and I figured you guys would understand. The Original: The new(built circa 1969-70) from pretty much the same angle: *Barf* So nasty inside also.

November 2, 200915 yr LMAO Rob that is true. I have seen that website. Totally messed up. But yeah, that courthouse is hideous. I wish I could get photos of the inside, I was seriously feeling sick. They had farty, stale air circulating around on top of the uglyness. I was actually mad when I left that building haha.

November 5, 200915 yr So, every major city I've lived in as an adult has won a World Series within the past five years, including a couple of franchises who were notoriously cursed until I arrived in town (White Sox, Red Sox, Phillies). If I end up moving back to Cincinnati next year for grad school, start booking your Reds playoffs tickets.

November 5, 200915 yr Living In Gin you are wrong, its wherever I live that isn't winning anytime soon. Having grown up in Oregon, I am used to seeing basketball teams get oh so good and fall flat on their faces deep in the playoffs every year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2000/playoffs/news/2000/06/04/blazers_lakers_ap/ I mean COMEON! November 6, 200915 yr I am sooooooooo mad right now. Does anyone want a 16 year old? You might just save a life! I'm about to kill my eldest nephew!
November 6, 200915 yr ^Don't kill him. Just treat him so badly he'll wish he was dead. ;D He needs one more a$$ whompin'. My brother refers to my nephew as, "your child", when my nephew has done something wrong. My brother is so upset, my nieces called me. My brother almost took my nephews head off...so my nephew is very lucky he's only been put on house punishment. Although, being my nephew, he going to try one of my tactics and ask my mom for help. It's just a mess
November 6, 200915 yr What did he DO? He got smart with my brother and then said, "Why can't you be more like Skip? I can't wait to move out of here and go live with him. You people are clueless." Then said some other mean & disrespectful things. So my 6'6" 240 lb brother snatched up my 6'2' 165 lb nephew. I know my brother was one step away from killing my nephew, because I've seen that "look" that my brother had in his eyes before. He would get that look when we were kids and would fight.
November 6, 200915 yr LOL, I would have liked to have seen that. No my brother is pissed. He doesn't usually swear in Spanish, since the skank-in-law doesn't speak Spanish, but when he was on the computer, that vein in his forehead was showing, his nostrils flaring and his eyes were "crazy". Unfortunately, I can't talk to my nephew or niece as my brother took their pda's, laptops and car keys. Hopefully they'll go to my parents house and call me so I can get my nephews version. Although based on what my brother told me, my nephew needs a beat down. I probably would have done the same thing. No child should be disrespectful to their parent(s).
November 6, 200915 yr No child should be disrespectful to their parent(s). lol...yeah, but every one of them is. I believe that teenagers should all be sent away to an island (can we do temporary sterilization?) and left there from ages 13 to 19 until they can prove that they can be helpful members of society. They are so messed up in the head that they could reasonably plead insanity to just about anything that they do wrong.
