December 17, 200915 yr Your 1000 post was as enlightening as the first 999!!! Sorry. I will try to use smaller words in the next 999. EDIT: :behind:
December 17, 200915 yr This was sent to me by a friend who works in HR. Office Christmas Party Company Memo FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: October 1, 2009 RE: Gala Christmas Party I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23rd, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols... feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 PM. Exchanges of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time! Merry Christmas to you and your family, Patty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company Memo FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: October 2, 2009 RE: Gala Holiday Party In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Hanukkah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on, we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians and to those still celebrating Reconciliation Day. There will be no Christmas tree and no Christmas carols will be sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now? Happy Holidays to you and your family, Patty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company Memo FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: October 3, 2009 RE: Holiday Party Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table, you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only", you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody? And sorry, but forget about the gift exchange, no gifts are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and the executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy. REMEMBER: NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company Memo FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director To: All Employees DATE: October 4, 2009 RE: Generic Holiday Party What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20th begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet, and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each group will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, the Grill House asks that no cross-dressing be allowed, apparently because of concerns about confusion in the restrooms. Sorry. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. I am sorry to report that we cannot control the amount of salt used in the food. The Grill House suggests that people with high blood pressure taste a bite first. There will be fresh "low sugar" fruits as dessert for diabetics, but the restaurant cannot supply "no sugar" desserts. Sorry! Did I miss anything?!?!? Patty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company Memo FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All F*%^ing Employees DATE: October 5, 2009 RE: The F*%^ing Holiday Party I've had it with you vegetarian pricks!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your f*%^ing salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! The rest of you f*%^ing wierdos can kiss my *ss. I hope you all have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die, The B*tch from H*ll!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Company Memo FROM: Joan Bishop, Acting Human Resources Director DATE: October 6, 2009 RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay. Happy Holidays! Joan

December 18, 200915 yr Didn't want to start a new thread for this... Can someone explain the logic behind creating an interchange in this way: (See on Google Maps)? Traffic continuing on the east/west road is forced to detour around the main intersection on the north overpass route. Why is this better than grade-separating the main intersection and adding cloverleafs there? Why divert the entire intersection to the north?
December 18, 200915 yr Because Jersey loves their 6-10 lane highways divided with a jersey barrier with street access, but limited interruption. It seems like a lot of those routes were converted into limited-access highways back in the day, and didn't want to disrupt the flow with an intersection, but still wanted the street to access the highway. Route 18 is a very busy route and if you follow it on google maps, you'll see that there are a lot of interchanges like that. Routes 18, 35, 3, US-22 and US-46, and a bunch of other limited-access highways in jersey use that kind of interchange. I too wonder why they created the detour, and my only guess is that they still wanted to allow traffic enter and exit on the actual street. They'll do that, and then, down the road, there will be a section with traffic lights every mile or so, while maintaining the 55 mph speed limit. So you'll have people flooring it when the light turns yellow. Ahh, and I miss that state oh so much.
December 18, 200915 yr A rare, good customer service experience to share. We have only recently found our current T-Th daycare provider and wanted to get something small as a present for the holiday season. We barely know here, he has only been there like 3 times, but I finally settled on a very cute looking ornament I saw on cafepress.com. It's a bunch of colorful peace symbols on a round ormament with a little red hanging tie, v. cute. Well, I received the item at the beginning of this week and we had to give it to her yesterday as this was the last day i'd be seeing her for the year, but I was pretty unhappy with the item. "Round" apparently meant a flat, round disk, and pretty small - it was only maybe 2 inches in diameter. And the design wasn't even on the back! The back was just plain pottery colored. What a rip. It wasn't tons of money, but it was enough I was dissatisfied. We went ahead and gave it to her because I didn't have time to return it and get something else, and we didn't want to keep it for our tree and buy her a different ornament. But I wrote to cafepress yesterday and expressed my disappointment, and said that it could be reasonably expected that a "round" ornament would be a typical, 3D ball type ornament and that I certainly didn't expect a tiny, flat disk, with printing only on one side, and that perhaps their description of the ornaments' dimensions would be important, so that nobody else would get a surprise like that. It was fairly friendly, not nasty at all, just saying hey, I think you guys need a better description of this item and others like it. They emailed me back and said we are so sorry you weren't satisfied with your purchase, and we have refunded your full purchase price back to your credit card, and no need to return the item as we understand you may not have it any longer, we just want to keep you as a customer. Well, they definitelly have, I will now order from there again, whereas I wouldn't have until that email. I wasn't expecting a refund and didn't ask for one, but am pleased I got one. Just wanted to share the good customer service experience in case others are shopping there as well.

December 18, 200915 yr I'm not bitter. I can't imagine them making any money off of that ugly thing lol That's cool they refunded your money.
December 18, 200915 yr I'm not bitter. I can't imagine them making any money off of that ugly thing lol That's cool they refunded your money. Thats not the point. They used something you own without your express written permission! I know I'm a terrible person to say this, but I really wish vendors wouldn't give gifts at the holiday season. They hardly know me as a person, and so the gifts are usually just a waste of money. Someone gave me a pointsetta earlier in the week. I just hate them, and I have no place in my workstation for a plant so I had to put it in the coffee room. Maybe someone else will find it cheerful. Someone also usually sends me a big box of chocolates, which is the last thing I need to eat when I'm still trying to lose all the baby weight, so that just gets put into the coffee room too. I had one vendor for awhile who knew me pretty well as a person, and they actually gave thoughtful gifts that I really enjoyed (which have since stopped due to the economy), but you know, a $55 silver tray from Bloomingdale's (received yesterday from another vendor) could not be more unlike something I would ever want or use. If it were a cheap frame or something, I would re-gift it somewhere, or just donate it, but $55 tray I'm like gee, I wonder if I can get Macy's to take this back for store credit. I know, terrible, right? People must think I'm a lush. I just received 6 bottles of Dead Letter Shiraz! WTH??!! The jokes Thing No. 1 and Thing No. 2 are spitting right now. I hate them!

December 19, 200915 yr Oh man. I'm loving this. Usually when there's a big snow storm, we get pounded. I think we got about an 8th of an inch and maybe we'll get an inch of snow today while apparently everywhere around me is getting at least 5 inches of snow.

And now with the hipsters and gentrification, I'm soooo glad I didn't buy over there as the neighborhood has lost it's character. However, if my favorite store in NY can open an outpost in Brooklyn, why can't I have one in Cleveland or Harlem?! I sacrificed DaninDC & jpop, wasn't that enough?

The next day you find the office buzzing about the ads and what was their favorite, it's exactly the type of discussion companies want.

The concept of satire is dead...and now this poor guy has to change his phone number / email address, and apologize for what essentially was a mistake by the news agencies. I'd love to see what kind of correspondence the Onion gets on some of their stories.
December 22, 200915 yr It's funny because our Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas, and especially on the Dutch holiday of Saint Nicholas' eve, a separate holiday in the Netherlands. But the Dutch portrayal of Sinterklaas is of an regal cardinal riding a white charger in full regalia, not a daft fat man wearing pajamas riding around in a sleigh.

It has amused me quite a bit that Saint Nicholas was a 3rd century bishop of the town of Myra on the present-day Turkish coast of the Mediteranean. Not really a part of the world known for getting a lot of snow. Somehow I doubt the area has seen a lot of sleighs and reindeer.
December 23, 200915 yr Someone in on our divisions just did something that has pissed me off royal. Since Thing No. 1 & Thing No. 2 are split, UO gets to decide if I rip this person (as very senior exec.) a new @sshole today or after the holiday. Thing No. 1 says - Rip that B*tch a new one Thing No. 2 says - Be nice it's the Holidays And to tell you the truth, I'm feeling a little J.R. Ewing / Joan Crawford-y right now!
December 23, 200915 yr What did they do to deserve this? Being born a dumb@ss. Rip em then! Being nice because it is the holidays is a lame excuse anyways!
