^The folks on www.letsgovikes.com have been e-mailing the PD alot.  By the way, if you are a fan of the vikes, its an emerging fan site.  It will only grow considering the vikes WILL make the big dance this year.

About 5000 people today (including me) -- not bad. But the place could be more packed, Greater Cleveland...

CSU goes to 10-1 after an exciting win over Akron today:

EDIT:  Interesting rumor

In the house? A young man (about 6-11, 250) wearing Oregon State sweatpants was sitting behind the Cleveland State bench. He fit the description of Chris Brown, a sophomore for the Beavers from Houston. Brown has not played in a game this season at OSU, but would be a valued transfer if the Vikings can land him, perhaps at the semester break.

was it loud MH?

Yep.  Especially during the last 1:30.  The place went nuts when Montgomery hit that 3 to win it.

Yeah I was there too.  That was awesome when he hit that 3.

geez...the more Cleveland State wins, the more AP votes they lose...

New poll is out:

What especially doesn't make any sense is that Vanderbilt is in at #25.  Vanderbilt is 6-3 with no wins against a top 25 team.  Now that they are ranked, CSU is 10-1 with a win against a top 25 team (a win over Vanderbilt themselves, ranked #7 at that time).  And yet, Vanderbilt has 88 points and CSU has 7.

Well, until Butler, are any of these teams going to give Cleveland any boost when they beat them? It could be that other teams are surging and CSU is just running in place against Horizon League competition.

^Butler will actually LOWER cleveland states RPI, they are awful this year.  Cleveland Sttate just needs to take care of business in Tampa next week against a Big East school, then they should be on cruise control for a while in conference play.  If they win in Tampa, they should easily be staring 15-1 in the eyes.  This is a NCAA tourney team..barring disaster.  If you are huge fan, already plan on taking March 15 & 16th off for a nice long weekend somewhere fun

^ Ok. As you can tell, I know little about NCAA basketball. Go CSU...

The Cleveland State game is on online on ESPN 3 (http://www.espn3.com) tonight at 7 pm.

Ughh, CSU goes down to Valparaiso today wtf. After that big victory over Butler? The coaches need to take the heat on this one. Not having their team prepared. Can not have another let down like this again if they have any hopes of tournament play.

No Horizon League team has ever swept the trip through Indiana.  Getting the Butler win took a lot out of the team.  Winning the Horizon League Tournament is still the only sure way to make the big dance this year.

^i still disagree.  first for freethink...no shame in losing to valpo on the road...they are a conference contender.  Plus CSU gave them a very strong punch two nights after a win in Butler.

Second, i think CSU is allowed one more loss coupled with a nice bracketbuster win an they still have a legitimate arguement for an at large.

They are going to have wins over high RPI teams in Vandy, St. Bonny and possibly a strong Nevada, Northern Iowa or Long Beach State...and also wins over both MAC contenders...

^I said the only sure way is to win the HL tourney.  They will finish with somewhere between 22 and 25 wins before the HL tourney which in with a good Butler team would give us a shot at an at-large if we didn't win the HL tourney.  The problem is Butler and the poor year they are having as well as Detroit.  I think the HL will still be considered a one bid league by the selection committee.

Even if they win out, they would still need to make it to the horizon league tourney final to have a shot at an at large.  What helps is that it is a down year for some historically multi bid leagues, most notably pac12

They are talking three maybe 4 MVC teams getting in...find one team that would have a better resume than us from that league with the exception of maybe Creighton.  Vandy will be a huge win once this is all said and done.  They will have their center back and make a run at the SEC.  IF St. Bonny's can snag a few big ones over maybe X and Temple...they will be a huge win as well.  I dont know, i think if you asked LUnardi, we are right there in the at-large discussion.  There is no shame in losing 5 or 6 games.

question for anyone who may know: how come CSU Men's Basketball games aren't televised locally? I mean, we have TWO regional sports channels, and one of those stations (Sportstime Ohio) could REALLY use the content. The Vikings are a fantastic team and they need more exposure. There's no reason why they shouldn't be on television more when we have two regional sports stations in the area. I mean, ONE of them could show CSU games, I would think. ESPECIALLY STO, which really needs more content in order to attract more viewers. Just a question.

My understanding is that the cost of production has been prohibitive, at least on STO's side of things.  They pick up a few CSU games, but they end up doing more with the MAC.  I've heard CSU and STO might want to work out a more comprehensive deal but it just hasn't been feasible yet.

Vikings sit alone in first place after beating Youngstown by 20 points. If they can get through the next weekend with the two Chicago teams without a loss it will make the Valpo game on the 9th of February the key to winning the league's number 1 seed for the tournament.

We need to fill the Wolstein!

I will be there.  Anyone on this board who is a sports fan should go to this game whether you are a huge Viking fan or not.  Support this team and the city.  Go grab a brew before and spend $8 to get into a premier mid major college basketball game.  Its not too tall of a request.

Some national respect:

Cleveland State, Akron earn TV spots in BracketBuster matchups

Published: Monday, January 30, 2012, 8:36 PM    Updated: Monday, January 30, 2012, 8:36 PM

Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Both Cleveland State and Akron landed television games for their Feb. 18 BracketBuster matchups, which were announced Monday evening. But the pairings lack sizzle, and for CSU may not help in lifting its at-large NCAA tournament resume.

CSU (18-4/RPI 54), the No. 1 team in the Horizon League, was paired with Drexel (17-5/RPI 87) out of the Colonial Athletic Association at 11 a.m., in the Wolstein Center on ESPNU.

"I think this is a very good match-up for us," Vikings head coach Gary Waters said. "Drexel is one of the best teams in their conference. They have a lot of size inside, a very good group of guards and have been playing very well of late."

CSU is cruising!  We've now notched a 20-win season!  No article from the PD yet...

UIC no match for Cleveland State

Horizon League's top team holds Flames to 27.3 percent shooting

7:41 p.m. CST, February 5, 2012

As Cleveland State blew by Illinois-Chicago in the second half of Sunday's 70-42 Horizon League decision at the UIC Pavilion, the Vikings also showed the Flames something to strive for.

"They've really put (together) a group that can do a lot of things and they're difficult to prepare for," second-year coach Howard Moore said. "We're not on that level by any means yet.

"(This game) just showed the difference in where we are and where they are as a program and a team. But we're on that path, we're on the right path."

Not looking good at halftime

Tough, tough blow.  This means that if Cleveland State is going to win the Horizon League tournament, it's very likely going to have to happen in Indiana.

A lot of backlash this morning on 92.3 when Gary Waters no showed for his scheduled interview.

He didn't no show. The radio station producer didn't get a confirmation of what time the interview would take place.  Waters was on at 9:40am.

Yeah I wonder what the real story was there.  Kiley and Booms were getting real dramatic about the whole thing.  I didn't catch the actual interview, though, so I'm not sure if Coach Waters had a good reason or if there was a mix-up.  I don't imagine that he would just skip the interview, because he does come off as a classy guy who wouldn't do such a thing.

There's a whole thread discussing this over at http://letsgovikes.com/forum/index.php/topic,1572.15.html

Not looking so good. What are we kidding ourselves. Its still Cleveland sports. We know the outcome :(

The Men's basketball team won their last two regular season games and secured the 2nd seed in the Horizon League Tournament. Their next game is Saturday in Valparaisio, IN.  Two more wins and it's on to the NCAA tourney!

one win and a valpo loss brings the Horizon Championships here to CLE.  I like Valpo losing, they have been up and down all year.

Cleveland State is in the NIT.  They play at Stanford Tuesday night, 11pm, ESPN2.

I'm amazed (but thrilled) they got in, let alone as a 6 seed.  When I saw Valpo was a 7 as an automatic qualifier I thought CSU had no shot.

This NIT field is really good this year, maybe the best in years. I'll be watching.

Cleveland State adds Louisiana guard Josh Ivory to 2012-13 roster

Published: Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 7:57 PM    Updated: Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 7:58 PM

By Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- College basketball teams began the spring signing period Wednesday, and Cleveland State added 6-2 guard Josh Ivory from Alexandria, La., to the roster.

Ivory led Peabody High to two Louisiana state titles. As a senior he averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 assists on a team that finished 35-2. He was a three-year starter for a program that advanced to three state title games, winning two, and his Peabody teams were a combined 103-5.

Already added to the eight players returning from last season are 6-11 Chris Brown, a transfer from Oregon State; and 6-1 Trey Lewis, a former Plain Dealer Player of the Year at Garfield Heights High who is a transfer from Penn State. Lewis will have to sit out a year before he is eligible to play.

Signed in the fall were three other players: 6-3 guard Bryn Forbes, 6-7 forward Malik London and 6-4 guard Junior Lomomba.

CSU also got a transfer from Penn State, a young man that I believe played high school ball at Garfield Heights.  His name escapes me at the moment.

Time to start getting folks to see a winner that has Cleveland on the jersey.  There are two doubleheaders this week at the Wolstein Center.  On Thursday, Feb 13, the Women play at 5:30 against Valparaiso, Men at 7:30 against UIC.  On Saturday the 15th, the Women play Detroit at 1pm and the Men play Green Bay at 4pm.  The Saturday game could be to move the Men's team into a tie for first place in the Horizon League.  Saturday is also when the Kid's Zone is available as well as $1 hot dogs.  Tell your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers!  Great seats are only $15 and it gets you into both games of the doubleheader.

Ok, Vikings took care of business on Thursday night.  Both the Men and Women won.  Saturday the 15th is the showdown with Green Bay.  Vikings win this and they are tied for first in the Horizon League. Men play at 4pm, great seats for as little as $10.  There's a BOGO coupon at csuvikings.com.
