Also just looked, last time we destroyed Milwaukee 82-59 at their place, and beat Green Bay 83-75 at their place. Hopefully we remain focused and dont pull a lakers.

Edit: I looked at Butler and Valparaiso and they seem to have a little tougher finish then us even though ANYTHING could happen.

Butler plays Loyola which last time they beat but only by two points. 65-63

Valparaiso also plays Loyola which they beat by ten. 66-56

They also play UIC where they only won by two. 68-66

Just a friendly reminder that if CSU can win their last two homes games, Downtown Cleveland will be hosting back-to-back-to-back:

March 4-8: 2011 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship @ Wolstein Center

March 9-12: 2011 MAC Men's a Women's Tournament @ Quicken Loans Arena

March 18-20: Opening Round NCAA 2011 NCAA Tournament @ Quicken Loans Arena

That is awesome. I am looking forward to the Horizon League Championship.

^ I will post a thread when dates/teams are confirmed.  I am going to go to forums of the teams that are coming to town and promote our city and what to do when their teams arent playing.  I highly encourage some support from the UO folks as well.  This is a chance to showcase our city to folks who would not likely come here otherwise.  For the NCAA tourney, people could be coming from as far as the west coast.

In the mean time...here is a nice NATIONAL article about norris cole to get your mouth watering for Thursday/Saturday to CLINCH THE HORIZON TITLE!!!

Game tonight at 7pm.  Support your Vikings, who wear "Cleveland" across their chest!

We win tonight and Saturday, downtown Cleveland will get $$$ next week!

If we lose will it put Butler in first? That would suck!

I think that loss just put us in third place.

Milwaukee

Butler

Cleveland State

Valparaiso

Milwaukee should be in first for the moment since they swept Butler.  Butler is second since they swept CSU, which puts the Vikings in third.  Not where they want to be.  Now they need help from Loyola and Youngstown State on Saturday, not to mention a win over Green Bay.

As I mentioned b4 it all about the horizon tourney and match ups....they have albsolutely no interior d

I know there is still one game left but this is not a good way to finish the season. Losing 4 out of the last 6 games. Now we have to hope Milwaukee and Butler both lose their next game and we win ours.

Horizon League three-way tie for 1st place:

Cleveland State University (13-5) 24-7

Butler (13-5) 21-9

Milwaukee (13-5) 18-12

Who hosts the tournament???

Milwaukee.  Best record (3-1) against the other two tied teams.  Butler is 2-2, and CSU is 1-3.  CSU will host a tourney game Tuesday night, and then have to go to Milwaukee on Friday, then if they win...stay in Milwaukee Saturday.  If they win that, the championship will either be in Milwaukee or the highest ranked team left.  Blew our chance on THursday night.  The team gets too confident when they are feeling good and dont play with the intensity they need to win.  Im truly disappointed in the last 1.5 months of the season for this team.  Hopefully Waters can get his team re-focused and hungry.

Norris Cole has been named one of the five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award that goes to the top point guard in the nation.  The other finalists are from BYU (Fedette), Duke (Smith), Wisconsin (Taylor), UConn (Walker).  In other words Cleveland State is the only Mid-major represented.  This is a MAJOR feather in the cap of Norris and the CSU program.

The winner will be announced April 1st and the presentation is on April 4th at the Final Four.

And in the end Butler still wins it all

CSU will be a #2 seed in the NIT and host Vermont on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $20 and $10, $5 for students.  It's gonna be a crazy week with at least one game at the Wolstein Center and six games Friday/Sunday at the Q.

I dont know a lot about college sports, but why doesn't Cleveland State play in the MAC. More Ohio teams and it would also be cheaper travel wise.

Actually, Im glad they are not in the MAC.  THe horizon is significantly better than the MAC.  That being said, there is no definite explanation.

The MAC would be a downward move in basketball at this point.  I think at least part of the reason they wouldn't play in the MAC is a lack of football.  Every current MAC school has a football program.  The only conference I could see being a good fit and an upgrade for CSU is the A-10: no conference football (like the HL) and maybe a few more historically good basketball schools than the HL.

^Yes, the MAC would be a downward move.  The Horizon League is the 11th ranked league for Division 1 Men's basketball.  The MAC is the 20th out of 32 leagues.  Horizon League teams played several MAC teams this season and I believe the majority were won by the Horizon League team.  CSU beat both Kent State and Akron this year.

As for moving up to another league, I personally think that we need to prove that we can dominate this league first.  To me that means consistent 20 win seasons and top three finishes in the league.  There is also no reason to move if the Horizon League could become a consistent multiple NCAA tourney team source.

Now the real reason for my response... Saturday, March 19th is a big day at the Wolstein Center.  The CSU Women's basketball team is in the WBI and is playing a second round game against Chicago State at 11am.  At 2pm the Men's team will play a NIT second round game against College of Charleston and it will be televised on one of the ESPN channels.  Tickets are $20 between the baselines and $10 for the endzone which covers both games. CSU students get in for $5 with their ID card.  With the games at the Q on Friday and Sunday, this gives something for those college hoops fans in town to do on Saturday.

The Men's game will match two of the best guards in the country.  Cleveland State's Norris Cole is one of the five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award which is given to the top point guard in the country.  Norris is also one of the 20 finalists for the John R. Wooden Player of the Year Award.  The College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock has scored over 2500 points in his career.  This will be a very interesting match-up.

CSU lost today. Kind of a disappointing last couple months of the season for these guys.

Cleveland State upsets No. 7 Vanderbilt 71-58

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) D'Aundray Brown scored 18 points and Cleveland State opened the season Sunday by upsetting No. 7 Vanderbilt 71-58 in a regional game of the Legends Classic.

Cleveland State, a veteran team with four seniors back from winning the Horizon League last season, hadn't played since an exhibition Wednesday night. The Vikings looked very fresh, while Vanderbilt (1-1) appeared sloppy and slow after opening Friday night with a late tipoff against Oregon.

Damn what a great win. Good for them. It shows they didn't spend alot of time this week overanalyzing whether or not the renderings of the new dorms on Chester would interact with the urban landscape as to promote a greater responsibility of livability and density....lol.

make sure to get down to the game on friday!!

Great way to start the season.  Looks like the senior leadership of the squad will help make up for the loss of Norris Cole.

^It's more than just senior leadership.  This freshman group brings it hard and it's pushing the starters.  The ESPN announcers kept trying to give Vanderbilt the excuse for losing was the "older" CSU team.  When he was saying that there were 3 freshman, one junior and one senior on the floor and they were still beating Vandy.

This is the best value in town for sports entertainment.  Get on the bandwagon NOW!!!

I can't remember the exact wording, but I do recall actually hearing an ad last week on the radio for CSU basketball that made reference to the fact that there was no NBA basketball as of now.  So that's how CSU is trying to sell the program.  Not a bad idea, especially if these guys keep playing well.

If you mention "UrbanOhio" at the Viking Outfitters concession stand near Gate A (Time Warner gate), you'll get 20% off any regular priced CSU merchandise on Friday, November 18th.  Doors open at 5pm, tip-off at 7pm.

See you at the Wolstein Center.

I realize that it's very early in the season and this particular rating doesn't mean anything right now, but the Vikings are #1 in the RPI rankings.  Keeping a high RPI ranking is one of the ways to possibly get an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney.

Finally getting some local press!

Go Vikes!

3 hrs until game time!  I still can't believe this game couldn't get televised with the rise of both teams recently and the backyard showdown.

MuRray Hill,

Thanks for the link. I was having a hard time finding it.

Nice crowd show up :)

Good game so far! Wish the server didnt go out though :(

Nice game! Kent shot 1-17 from 3 point land tonight .

Another win!!! A last second win too!  Please get all your friends to the Wolstein Center for the game on December 10, 2pm, against Akron.

Bummer.  Can't win them all!

btw the Plain Dealer coverage still sucks.  The coverage for the Boston U victory today was ZERO.  The only mention was on Page D9 from the AP...seriously.

^^again, the Plain Dealer literary writes no article on the CSU victory -- ZERO coverage.  The paper today only uses the AP write up of the game on the inside pages.

^Any suggestions on how to get the PD to provide better coverage?
