Heh, can't change my vote now... went from software engineering, to corporate counsel for same software company... not quite the same field...

Software Engineering in the Medical Devices industry

I am a college student. Ideally, I would like to have a career that mixes Urban Planning and Marketing. Economic Development perhaps? I also think that a job as a Retail Analyst sounds interesting, but I don't know much about that field.

Some more of my dream jobs include: a MTV VJ (or any other job where I could talk about entertainment and interview famous people) or a Beauty Editor for a major magazine. I like to keep my options open :-).

Urban Planners certainly need to focus more on marketing. Especially in the rust belt cities. They need to convince large corporations and incubators to locate here. Working with the city to cater to their needs. Urban Planners know how to sell neighborhoods and cities like no other professional imo.

I heard a speech from Patrick Ewing, a guy who works or did work for Cincinnati's Economic Development division and they're all about working with developers to bring in companies and upscale development like One River Plaza, for example. What makes a city thrive is bringing in high paying jobs and upscale development as it provides a greater tax base. So marketing is a very important aspect of City Planning. Although the Econ. Development Director is really a "deal maker", there's a strong relationship between Econ. Development and the planning dept., city council, etc.

Higher Education- Student Development.

I'm currently in legal, previously in government, formerly in manufacturing and logistics.

Just completed JD/MPA, and currently studying for the OH Bar, although I am not going to practice (at least not any time soon).  Barring any unforeseen developments, I will be working for the Feds.

Architectural Project Designer

Got a bachelors in architecture and a masters in planning focusing in transportation, community development, and urban design.

My position professionally involves pure design of buildings.  Building 3d renderings of the design and then working with a team of architects to outfit them with program code requirements as well as engineers so they hold up.  It's a back and forth process, but at least I don't have to worry about the technicalities regularly.  It's truly rewarding to see a building going up you designed.

I'm hoping to bring my experience in planning more to my office though as we start taking on some major urban design projects
