Holy cow - what a pretty-looking neighborhood!  Thanks so much for the thread!

:)

Not only is it an amazing neighborhood, but a quick walk to High Street *drools*.

And the picture of the restaurant that says "Basi Italia" is in a residential back alley! I would love to be able to walk stragiht to a restaurant from my back yard haha.

Good shots, wonderful neighborhood.

Is this infill?

What do you think!?!?!? (Rhetorical question meant to suggest the answer is obvious, while putting a mask over the fact that I really don't know).

I would assume it is, given the sterility of the project-not to mention cheap building materials, new sidewalks, etc. There is a lot of infill in Victorian Village. Some looks amazing, some leaves much to be desired for a village of stately old brick Victorians, but even the worst in-fill is "nice".

Well, even the homes that everyone so desires today was once quite bland in the past. This infill project ^ can always be updated later on -- and as it ages, it will gain character. Trims will be painted, sidewalks will age and show distress, there will be some lively window plantings, etc. The landscaping is really nice though.

Yea this is an awesome neighborhood...just south of osu.  And imo, these photos do not do justice to this neighborhood.  Great photos David, but this neighborhood has a LOT of charm that you just cant capture.  Neil Avenue is wonderful in this 'hood and there are also a few round-a-bout type structures around Michigan/Pennsylvania/Harrison West area-ish.

Great tour of one of my favorite Columbus neighborhoods.  The housing stock is so solid. Love the brick alleys and the grandness of Neil Avenue.  Columbus is so lucky not to have lost more of the close-in neighborhoods.  One can only imagine what was bulldozed to put in the innerbelt in the 60's.  I have elderly friends who lost their home where I-70/I-71 now plow through south of downtown.  They got cents on the dollar, and the neighborhood was destroyed.  Guess it is the same story everywhere.

The infill in Victorian Village was just getting off the ground around 25 years ago.  There were some really seedy parts to the area, and some buildings were rat infested hovels, owned by absentee landlords who could have cared less.  The change has been so dramatic--the grand old homes brought back to their former glory, and the unsalvagable ones razed and replaced with appropriate structures.

Hope this hasn't been too long winded, but I always use this area as an example of what Columbus did right/is doing right to my friends here.  Along with the Short North, German Village and a few other neighborhoods scattered around it gives Columbus a very special urban feeling that can't be duplicated by sprawling suburbs no matter how hard they try or how many Restoration Hardwares they build.

Columbus' "gayborhoods" are a great asset to the city.

When I was a Senior at OSU, I was dating a girl who lived on Harrison Avenue just a couple of blocks from B. Hampton's...good times!  David, did you happen to see the new Harrison Park development?  http://harrisonpark.com/harrison-park.aspx

I was all over Oregon, 2nd, 3rd, etc but I don't think I traveled that far west; I think I just missed it. Looking at the site plan and elevations, it looks nice! They don't have the loft condominium section up yet; I'd be curious to see what those look like. From the site plan, it looks like they'll will or have given it a nice little riverfront on the Olentangy. Sweet.

P.S. Holy S%!T even the smallest house upgraded to brick, with a finished basement and 3rd bedroom (who would buy a house in V.V. that didn't have these?) is gonna start at like 400k. No wonder the artists are getting tossed out, into Franklinton.

But a house is worth exactly what people are willing to pay, not how much it costs to build.

Nice job with Victorian Village/HARRISON WEST ;).

God damnit who are you, the geo-spatial master of the universe?!?!?! Get out of here with your technicalities! They should have better signage then.

I'd say the answer to your question would probably be a yes.  One does not question the ColDayMan and live. :shoot:

One of my favorite Columbus hoods. Thanks!

They DO have signage (brown signs with white lettering).

Now be gone, peasant.

Nice photos.  You even included some blurry ones.  ;)

My old neighborhood!  Cue the homesickness...
