Japanese architect to work on Frank Lloyd Wright house

 

A prominent Japanese architect will contribute to the restoration of the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Springfield.

 

Kisho Kurokawa, known for his design of the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, the Nagoya City Art Museum and the Osaka Conference Center in Japan, will create a Japanese garden and teahouse at the Westcott House, officials announced Thursday.

 

Kurokawa also designed Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia and the Pacific Tower in Paris.

Westcott House open to public

Clark County men replicate designs of Frank Lloyd Wright

SPRINGFIELD | New Carlisle furniture maker Gary Keener was thrilled when he was chosen to build a replica of a Frank Lloyd Wright dining table for Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House.

 

Then realization set it.

 

"Oh no, I've got to build this thing," Keener remembered saying. "I think I might be in over my head."

 

Thankfully, for the stream of people who toured Springfield's Westcott House on Saturday, Keener was more than up to re-creating the table that graces the dining area of the restored 1908 prairie-style home.

Westcott House will get award

Restoration of home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright will be recognized by Ohio Historical Society.

The Westcott House will receive a preservation merit award today.

 

The Ohio Historic Preservation Office will honor the restoration of the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and all who contributed to the effort.

 

The Westcott House opened last October as a museum after a five year and $5.3 million restoration.

Westcott House, businesses struck by vandals

Springfield police are searching for vandals who defaced the Westcott House and area businesses with spray paint early Monday.

"We have officers assigned to the investigation," said Springfield Police Chief Stephen Moody. "We're working to identify the individuals involved."

Wright grandson to visit restored home

The high rollers on swank E. High Street in Springfield must have been taken aback when Frank Lloyd Wright designed a home for Burton and Orpha Westcott.

 

After all, the Westcott House was unlike anything else on the street -- which in 1908 was dominated by homes in the Queen Anne, Victorian and Romanesque Revival styles.

 

The residence, done in the prairie style, was considered avant-garde -- a notion that amuses Eric Lloyd Wright, the architect's grandson.
