July 20, 200717 yr I suspect this would be be added to this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3076.90 ...it's a very welcome update to the last article Grasscat posted there, "Prosecutor looking into petition fraud" (I knew I'd heard about this case somewhere here!)
July 24, 200717 yr As a former Catholic myself, I don't know what you think you are going to get out of the Catholic church in Montreal. While it is a beautiful city and I wish you well, the church will treat you the same in Montreal too. While Montreal and Canada are very open and respectful to people from all walks of life, you are going to still get discriminated by the church in any country because of your sexual preference. Do you still attend or plan on attending Mass?
July 24, 200717 yr I consider myself agnostic; I don't have anything against what the Catholic church generally preaches but their views on sexual orientation are not something I see eye-to-eye with. I got into a long argument over this recently with a Christian friend who thinks that by praying and having a close relationship with Jesus you can force yourself to be straight and he alligned it with how he's managed to refrain from giving into temptation and having sex before marriage. He argued that it's obviously something you want to do but you make the sacrifice and you're committed to your religion. But I don't think that's a good comparison; it's not about acting on being gay; being gay is just who you are as a person.
July 24, 200717 yr Well you should be happy in Montreal. Good luck and maybe one day you will give Ohio another chance. I can only imagine that being gay in a state that passed an anti gay marriage law can be tough. I wish more from the gay community would fight the law instead of moving away. But I can't fault you from wanting to experience a new city, especially one like Montreal. Groups like the CCV need to be stopped!
February 16, 200817 yr Local churches push for gay clergy rights Cincinnati Presbyterians pass motion BY LORI KURTZMAN | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER February 15, 2008 CINCINNATI - L.P. Jones wishes some of his friends had the same opportunity he did. Jones is pastor at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church - a position they cannot attain. "I have wonderful friends who cannot take the journey I've taken...because they were created gay or lesbian," he said. Jones is part of a group that's looking to change that. The Presbytery of Cincinnati - which comprises 85 congregations and 17,000 members in Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana - is urging the church's national assembly to delete the portion of its constitution that says only chaste members or those in heterosexual marriages may serve as clergy. The Associated Press contributed.
