August 4, 200717 yr now thats cute. If we could have stores like that built into the exisiting street grid that would work for me. We will, at least in Downtown Cleveland. Thanks for posting mrnyc. How was mimies?
August 4, 200717 yr This looks quite nice! Think Easton, but better. Where is this located at? (Google map)?
August 4, 200717 yr I agree, it is a step in the right direction even if it isn't Mag. Mile. Knocking sense into suburbanites is a gradual process. Baby steps.
August 4, 200717 yr mov mimi's is a new orleans theme type place. i had a glass of white wine and poached salmon on some greens. my spouse had an asian chop salad and a cup of green pea soup - we just shared everything it was fine. fyi a pub chain is coming soon as is a mccormick & schmicks seafood chain. edt: seicer check the mall's link at the top of the thread for directions, shoppes and more info.
August 4, 200717 yr Holy crap, my assumptions were dead-on. http://www.thegreene.com/guestinformation.cfm#more17 The Greene is a project of Steiner + Associates, the co-developer of Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Easton project was among the first full-scale mixed-use town centers in the United States and opened in 1999. The Greene is a 72-acre, $186 million, 1.1 million square-foot new town center featuring pedestrian-friendly streetscapes, open-air gathering spaces, fountains and parks for children. Eventually, TheGreene will be home to over 85 best-of-class retail, entertainment and dining tenants. Second-floor office space totaling over 100,000 square feet and approximately 136 residential units will also co-exist in an urban environment overlooking a variety of bustling activity. The Greene is the next step in the evolution of Steiner + Associates' original mixed-use town center concept, which helped initiate and contribute to the "live, work, play" philosophy and lifestyle now growing across the United States. -- And I see how its all connecting. Steiner+Associates' were the original developers for Pullman Square in Huntington, WV, later dropped in favor of Metropolitan Partners. The developers date back to 1999. Easton Town Center was developed by Steiner+Associates' plus a co-developer (Metropolitian Partners? Since they are based out of C-Bus) in the late 1990s (1999?). And around the same time, Steiner+Associates' developed The Greene. Their designs are evolving (looking at their prior projects) and it seems that as they grow, they will continue to refine their development styles and add a greater variety of building stock and hopefully expand into true mixed-use developments.
August 4, 200717 yr despite their hype they're a little behind in the lifestyle mall game, but whatevs.
August 4, 200717 yr It was sad earlier this summer when I ended up going there three different times in one day.
August 4, 200717 yr Seicer--They've also done NOTL which is pretty much a big box mall with an expensive parking garage. This looks like a lesser evil though.
August 4, 200717 yr The mis-en-scene breaks down a bit to the rear, yet not too bad for "back of the house" (I am wondering how they are going to fit that department store in with phase II)
August 4, 200717 yr Greene Corruptione Mayor's business did work for The Greene Scott Hadley's printing business did work for the shopping center during key votes, retailer says. Listen to this article or download audio file.Click-2-Listen By Christopher Magan Staff Writer Saturday, August 04, 2007 BEAVERCREEK — Mayor Scott Hadley may have violated Ohio law by voting on legislation for The Greene while his business was doing printing work for the shopping center. Mike Duffey, spokesman for The Greene, confirmed it has used Hadley Printing since the shopping center opened in August 2006. Duffey was unsure if Hadley Printing performed work for Steiner and Associates, the developer of The Greene, before the retail center opened. Ohio Ethics Law prohibits elected officials, their immediate family, or business associates from benefiting from their office. They also are barred from participating in business deals that could put their impartiality at risk, according to the Ohio Ethics Commission. Hadley operates the printing business, located on Marsetta Drive, with his wife, Nancy. On Friday, the mayor did not return repeated calls for comment. Hadley has voted on issues involving The Greene since becoming mayor in January 2006. His votes include approving a major change to the second phase of the shopping complex on Jan. 22, according to city council minutes. After council members confronted Hadley about his dealings with The Greene, the mayor wrote a letter of apology to council and began to recuse himself from discussions and votes concerning the shopping center April 23. par for the course. He gets caught, then apologizes and starts acting "ethically"

August 5, 200717 yr Thee Greene: Open from 10am - 9pm daily. Not real sure how many real communities have hours of operation, but who knows...maybe it's thee newe trende. Edit: BTW, that image is directly from Thee Greene's website...there are also similar signs posted around the complex (note I said complex on purpose).

August 5, 200717 yr Can someone explain the point of these faux Juliet balconies? Leftover railings and they needed somewhere to stick them? "136 residential units will also co-exist in an urban environment" Let's see... in downtown Cleveland, the Bingham Building (rehabbed warehouse) has about 330+ residential units, but this place with 136 units will be an urban environment. :wtf: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 5, 200717 yr I don't think every unit should have been equipped with one, but the romantic in me likes Juliet balconies. I wonder what the interiors are like and what room the balcony is attached too. Viewing/Seeing the balcony from the inside might make a difference.
August 5, 200717 yr Are those condos? Even if living in a lifestyle center was my style, I'd be afraid to buy property there. There's no guarantee that the place will be renovated in the coming years and that would determine how much your property is worth. People might flock to the next new development where newer upperclass suburbs are sprouting up.
August 5, 200717 yr what do you mean renovated? The units or the development itself? I think this place would be a rental, like cracker park.
August 5, 200717 yr I meant the development itself. And if Cracker Park wasnt a typo, you shouldn't be using racial slurs. Its quite hypocritical coming from someone who preaches about racism.
August 5, 200717 yr I think the majority of folks here on UO refer to that travesty of a development in Westlake as "cracker park". Based on the context of the conversation and (the property itself) I don't feel its a racist remark. Trust me if I was going to make a racist remark, your head would spin, the thread would be closed and I would be banned forever from UO.
August 6, 200717 yr I went to the Greene today just to see what it was about, I didnt mind it, there were a good deal of people out and the apartments were nice if not extremely overpriced. I was surprised to see a development like this in suburban Dayton, but I really didn't know what to expect. Overall I was impressed but the amount of surface parking really canceled out the 4 story apartments and parking garages, not to mention the parallel parking. Thats one thing I will never understand, we will build something emulating something urban with different parking options but lets still surround it in a sea of pavement eliminating any notion of it being a true neighborhood.
August 6, 200717 yr Drove through this place two weekends ago. Then I jumped on 35 to downtown Dayton. Both are pathetic.

Would this comment be acceptable if the roles were reversed in the statement? I personally don't think it would, but I guess that's up to interpretation.
August 6, 200717 yr Would this comment be acceptable if the roles were reversed in the statement? I personally don't think it would, but I guess that's up to interpretation. Ahh...if i'm not mistaken it was the white members of UO who coined the "cracker park" label. If it makes anyone feel better I'll just use "that crap in Westlake" to describe crocker park.
August 6, 200717 yr Funny you said "based on the context" ... it kinda reminds me of my white peers that throw around the N word but say "I'm only talking about certain subsets of black people". But I still don't think white people should use the N word period because of the way the word gets used to generalize. I know cracker isn't as bad as the N word, the two aren't really comparable. It's not really a big deal, I just keep trying to piss MTS off and it never works :( P.S. Cracker Park is actually pretty funny. I kinda wish I lived in Cleveland so I could use it.

August 6, 200717 yr i think westlake should change the name to jigga park and get jay-z to play in the courtyard. shake things up a little. ya heard? maybe he could get cp an nice ms store?

I'm really not offended by it, but there should be some sort of consistency in society for what is acceptable in this regard. *steps off podium*

I wanted to come across that The Greene was not needed and I would perfer development downtown. Instead we get a waste of material in Beavercreek and a dying downtown Dayton.
August 14, 200717 yr Dying downtown Dayton? It used to be dying but it quite clearly is coming back from a large decline. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
