Posted August 15, 200717 yr I am trying to find out the uses of a building I will soon lease, maybe incorporate it's history into the business :drunk: I am going to put into it. In case anyone is extreamly pro-active it is 2333 S. Michigan Ave. CHicago IL Just looking for a pointer in the right direction
August 15, 200717 yr In Cleveland, you would check out the county auditor site. It gives a lot of history on each parcel number (or address). Cook County Auditor site??
August 15, 200717 yr the neighborhood changes between 19 and 21 street. I guess things are starting to even out over there.
August 15, 200717 yr It is going to be an entertainment district, by mayoral decree :) My partners in the business have bought substatial real estate, including the Chicago Defender building
August 15, 200717 yr Punch... Cook County Assessor. You can search by address or parcel number. You can also search by map by clicking "Interactive Mapping" under Online Tools. http://www.cookcountyassessor.com/filings/searchflat//search.asp That only really tells you how old your building is, though (103 years). The Cook County Recorder of Deeds might be able to tell you what subdivision it was built in. Other than that, I got nothing.
August 16, 200717 yr Sanborn maps and a city criss-cross directory. Thats what I use for my Dayton research. For Chicago I think the Newberry Library has a Sanborn collection. Not sure about the criss-cross directorys. Start with the Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Historical Society.
August 16, 200717 yr I've poked around that site before because I love Chicago . (((((((((((((grasscat!)))))))))))
August 16, 200717 yr I wonder if the landmarks division of the chicago planning dept would be able to help; or the Chicago historical society. Motor Row has a lot of history. I guess making it a landmark historic district did it a lot of good! The location is prime. I found some cool pics of the area from 1912. Courtesy of the Chicago historical Society's website. 1929
March 22, 200817 yr What is the story of the parade. For the life of me, I can not find it on the historical society's website
March 22, 200817 yr Looks like the writing on the 2nd photo says Civil War Veterans 1912 Armistice Day (hold up to a mirror to verify). First photo says Old Civil War Soldiers on the left.
March 23, 200817 yr Yeah, that's it. How's the project coming along? You gonna post pics of the bar when it's done? That would be cool to see.
