Alright folks - it's time to retire the official logo of Urban Ohio. So we're having a contest for you design-minded folk to come up with something new, something cool, something fabulous. You get the idea.

HOWEVER, there are some guidelines/rules that you have to abide by:

1. The logo must be equally representative of all cities in Ohio (or just the state). In other words, the words "Urban Ohio" with the Cleveland skyline as a backdrop won't cut it.

2. Whatever software you use - your final version MUST be available as a vector graphic (aka Illustrator file). If you don't know what that means, I'm not sure you should be entering the contest. Seriously though, we'll need to  have something we can give to printers that will be a clean, crisp, professional piece of work.

3. Your design must be easily legible in a variety of applications - from business cards, to t-shirts, to bumper stickers, etc. If you come up with an intricate design that looks cool but reads as a blur at 40mph, it's not going to cut it.

4. Although it's not required, if you choose to use multiple colors, it might be a good idea to provide a spot-color option.

5. Of course, by entering the contest you release and indeminfy the proprietors of the Urban Ohio site from any and all liability, etc. By submitting a design you are agreeing that the proprietors of Urban Ohio have complete permission to use your logo design as they see fit.

What's in it for you? 1,500 members will thank you for starters; you'll also get the T-shirt of your choice from Campfire Goods http://www.wearecampfire.com/, and if you ever show up at an Urban Ohio meet, I'm sure someone will buy you a drink. Who does the judging? Well, me along with input from other forumers but we'll worry about that later. The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 7th at 3pm eastern time.

I'm sure there will be questions, so please use this thread to ask. Good luck!

Is the depiction of inter-species sexual activity ok ?

LMAO.  I love when MayDay does that!  LOL  That picture just tickles me to death!  Everytime I see it just burst out laughing!

Hey were talking about Ohio, not.... Never mind.  :-D

Get your mind out of Amsterdam!  LOL

September 7 is not that far away.

I'll get my kids working on it this weekend.

Here's a few I put together. As with everything I make, I'm not crazy about any of them, but here they are. I'm sure I'll mess around some more this weekend.

I like the second one best, too.  The first one looks like a political ad and the third one isn't really a logo at all.

CornerCurve...I hope you don't think I'm demeaning your effort.  These are just the general impressions I get.

I like the second one the best too.  If I had photoshop skills, I would whip something up.

The first one looks like a "Welcome to Ohio" highway sign.

Mr Curve - that is really impressive to come up with those designs so quickly !

Great idea and a good way for someone to contribute what will become the history of Urban Ohio. My vote so far is cornercurve's #2.

Number 1 is too similar to other Ohio state logos as stated above (this one comes to mind):

So I guess we send you (MayDay) the graphic file via PM? Are we limited to a number of designs we can submit?

But I like the original one!

I like the second the best as well corner curve, but make the red Ohio, a different color.

Or you could just post it in this thread.

Wow...I almost missed this thread entirely.  I'll work on throwing something together in the next day or so.  Adobe CS is fun!

I kept the key elements similar.  I like the blue color...and I tried to keep it simple and still recognizable to the old look/feel.

Urr.... Ban Ohio!!!!!! lol

Urbana, Ohio?

Urbana, Ohio?

Couldn't that be said for every logo?

Yes, but I wanted to rip on yours.  I've been waiting all this time.

Thanks...much appreciated.

Urr.... Ban Ohio!!!!!! lol

True. Perhaps there should be some overlap of the 'r' or 'b.'

It is hard to tell how it would look at a smaller size, but I like it.

I knew that the Ban Ohio thing would come up...but for layout purposes it worked best to split off after the r.  Here...I tweaked this one a bit, and made it a little smaller for you:

how about a logo that says UrbanOhio in green font on a dark blue background with three dots in blue, green, and orange, with the text "all things urban" in the bottom right hand corner

I don't blame you on how you placed it. Ink...overlapping letters would make it look tacky and less legible.

Sounds like a solid design concept, but I'm not sure if I could pull that off or not.

The people in Cleveland don't like skyline chili! No way that would fly lol.

I have an idea for a logo, but my skills are limited to photoshop only, and barely at that.

So maybe somebody here might want to take a stab at it.

I have been thinking for the longest time how cool it would be to use the image of Ohio at night ( see world at night photo below). All of the urban areas are lit up already. Then use the UO - I would suggest a different font: Eurostile, Eurostile extended, Optima, or maybe something retro like American Typewriter.

Anyone want to try?

Something I made real quick using windows movie maker & paintbrush because I don't have a real photoshop program. I already had the first picture. The dark areas in the second one aren't suppose to be there but they're a product of the windows programs. Improvise, Adapt & Overcome...  I can do without the blue border but I couldn't get rid of it without creating other problems, so...

Heres another night shot of USA. That would be cool with just OHIO!!

So you want people to design a tshirt showing Ohios gluttonous energy consumption?

They can be glow in the dark tshirts.

But what is required might leave out a whole bunch of good ideas (including mine  :-D) from the regular folk.

So if we put the idea out there, why can't somebody with more skills, money to by the fancy-schmancy programs you require and maybe time go ahead with that idea and attempt to produce something out of it?

I'm not talking about software, I'm talking about a design that can be easily printed on any background (in one color if need be) and that would work well on a business card or a billboard. Just looking at some of the above, I can tell you we have some disqualifications.

Believe me, I know there are some talented folks out there with some good ideas, and if said people want to ask other people for help putting their idea together in a workable format, that's called collaboration :-)

Not to beat you with a wet noodle or anything, but:

You can have the thanks of the 1,500 member and I will buy you a drink.

I get the t-shirt.

I think mine qualifies for what you're saying, but maybe not.  Plus I did the design in Photoshop, but just simply uploaded the jpeg version of the file for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Is there a specific look/feel you're going for, MayDay? What is it about the old one you don't like anymore? I'm just trying to figure out what direction you want the identity of this site to go in.

  I like number 2

A forumer (who shall go unnamed) suggested that it was "uninspired", so rather than tell them to stick it, I thought it would be a good opportunity for people to participate. Other than the guidelines I posted, I don't have much to say other than it should be forward-looking (aka, please nothing as an homage to our agri/industrial past).

^Mooooooooo

That forumer was me. And I stand by what I said. :)

While I like Musky's concept in theory, the look of the logo above reminds me of a war torn Ohio.

I'm working on it. ;) And preparing myself for the aftermath .. LOL!
