I really like that first one, although I'm not sure it would make a good logo. Defiently something that should go somewhere on the site, however.

I would enlarge the text on the red/white/blue/flag/silhouette one and also on the Euro one and we got ourselves a competition!

Nice work. The flag ones are good, if a bit busy. What are the triangles for on the bottom?

I dig the dot ones, even if they mainly show the sprawling nature of our urbanized areas.

The words Urban Ohio get lost in the shuffle in both cases.

Re the corn logo:

I like the font, is that Rosewood? Not sure if it works for UO though.

Here's a nifty site of logo criticism:

Now THAT is an awesome site. Thank you. :)

The typeface was Clarendon BT.

thanks for the input everyone!

I'll make the texts clearer.

The triangles on the lower part of the flags are actually a bridge-sort of like a negative space game.  every city in Ohio has bridges so no one feels left out!

The Ancient Egyptians called that filler.

I totally got the bridge. Rivers play a HUGE role in Ohio and its urban centers. Hell, in the tongue of her indigenous people, "Ohio" means "Beautiful River."

Or possibly "Muskrat Love."

Musky Love  :-o

Great job cle2032.

The bridge part was obvious to me, but will somebody feel slighted with "clevo-looking" towers?

I like the euro one too - but not the colors.

It makes me think of a state wide easter egg hunt.

CLE has Terminal Tower, Cbus has Leveque, Cincy has the PNC building, and the others are w/e our hearts desire. Honestly, TT is the only Cleveland one I represented--intentionally.

Wow, I'm suprised no one liked the magenta (must have been the tie I was wearing that put me in the magenta mood)...  I thought it looked fresh.  I'll try some other colors later.

Not sure if you guys are gonna get into this one or not but I like it. He's the little Urban Ohio guy! Ohio is known as being a friendly state and I'm usually pretty amazed by how friendly people are on here. Some other blogs/forums can get pretty caustic. The colors can be switched around but these are pretty current and hip. The readability is definitely there too. I've got some more coming but I thought I'd throw this fun one out. Don't be too hard on me!

Make that "urban" a jaunty flip of hair, and I'll make this my new avatar.

So that isn't Carew Tower to the left of PNC (aka Central Trust)?

Haha, nice. Favorite so far. Maybe move his "face" north a bit.

Uncle Radio,

I intended that to be Leveque--I chose PNC/Central Trust for Cincy to add some diversity to the skyline but if you see it as Carew, that's cool too.  With the exception of 1 or 2 buildings, I was hoping to allow each city to mold this generic skyline to fit their own.

They happy Ohio thing is kinda cute.  Does anyone else think of PeeWee's Playhouse?! LOL  It could dress up for each holiday!

here's my very colorful and very novice design...I don't think it's even formatted correctly, but I wanted to at least have some fun!

Personally I think MayDay's original logo was perfection and am not a big fan of changing it but instead of bitching about it, I thought I would make a few subtle modifications to an already great logo:

This would look good on a T-shirt.

^Agreed.

Here is something that I have been working on. There are subtle changes in each one. I think I like the black one the best. Also just for fun what it might look like on a t-shirt. I put it on a girls t-shirt for all of the hot girls who are on this forum... (yea that's a joke).

UrbanOhio

^^Did Ohio somehow grow a North Dakota on the side or something?!?  If so, we need to get that removed pronto...can't be healthy.

Seriously though...I do like how you wrote the Urban Ohio part.

These are all really good!

For the flag one:

I thought the bridge was some farms on a hill in front of a skyline. Maybe put 'Urban' above, and 'Ohio' below, the logo. Really good and one of my favorites.

For the face, I agree with moving the 'eyes' north. Another one of my favorites!

Can't wait to see the final submissions. Logos are fun!

I definitely saw it as a bridge.

Good job, freethink.

I like the black ones as well. I prefer the one on the bottom.

My 2 cents ...

^I like that, puts lots of attention on Southwest Ohio!!!

Not bad.

It appears we have grown some udders on the bottom right.

More cow reference.

Layering, eh?  Not bad.

I like this one.

Ahhhh! Very nice, Cincy-Rise.

I really like the first one better then the second one.

What do the stars symbolize?

Maybe an outline of the state inside the "O". Just something subtle, or translucent.

Plus it should be a few more pixels larger to match the "o" on the end.

CincyRise - nice job - what about just using the same italicized letters for both URBAN and HIO, with the O as it is or with the state outline as the "donut-hole" in the O - might be a little cleaner looking, while still keeping some elements of the state flag.

(Wishing I had graphic design skills...)

What do the stars symbolize?

The stars are on the Ohio flag and represent what number Ohio entered the Union.

Thanks everyone.

Here a couple different one's I've worked on and one Mov2Ohio wanted to see a different color state of Ohio.

^I like the second one a lot!  I love the incorporation of the UO abbreviation that we all often use.

The first one looks too much like text on a post card for a spring break destination. I like the second logo, third one is nice but Ohio shouldn't be green.

I like the second one as well for the same reasons stated. Plus, it is very modern and has motion.

i do not, as stated earlier in the thread, like the incorporation of red or blue in the logo. I do not think we should have a color that might be misconstrued as a political statement. The third one has green in it - not a particularly attractive shade of green, but green nonetheless. Could we see the second one in maybe black letters w/green circle?

Here's the different colors you wanted to see and a brighter green for the bottom logo.

I hope you don't turn away from red and blue solely because of the political implications they may hold. It's a classic color combination that's tough to go wrong with, IMO.

Black and green UO is the best!

The logo should be blue. with an optional white logo for times when the colors need to be reversed like the logo on the top of this thread.

I think everyone has good ideas but I haven't seen anything yet that looks better than the original (when it isn't resized poorly and pixelated).

It's sized right in IE.  Show us a pic of what it looks like for you.

I don't mean to be disrespectful of any who has submitted a 'design' for the new logo but can we please take a step back, refresh ourselves with the criteria, and stop with the arbitrariness?

I personally think that the current logo works quite well but it appears that some feel it has run its course and it's time for a new UO logo.  That's fine.  Perhaps we're looking for something that says "Urban Ohio" without literally saying it.  That appears to be the idea behind some of the most recognized logos in the world today.  With or without the name, the logo is identified.  (Target, United, Lufthansa, Nike, Adidas, Mercedes, Mac, etc.)  Now I don't expect UO to enter the realm of the aforementioned corporations; however, if we're going to create a fresh new look for UO, it should be worth our while.  How can Ohio-in all of its urban glory-be represented?  That's the challenge here.  Expirementing with Arial text sizes 10-24 and choosing randoms colors that don't represent a specific political party are not design exercises in any stretch of the imagination.  They are arbitrary moves which do not lead to a strong, effective logo.  As critical as we are of urban planning decisions and architectural designs in our respective cities, so should we be of something that represents the advocates for a stronger, truly urban Ohio.

Not to knock everyone, there have been some submissions that appear to be going in the right direction--not all but some.  Now I realize that I may scrutinized for these remarks and my 2 designs may be torn apart just to "prove me wrong" but I'm OK with that as long as the next two weeks are used by many forumers to submit some effective and attractive logos.

Good luck and please don't hate me

Why would anyone "hate" you for expressing your opinion?  You're fine.
