After some tinkering (STILL some fine-tuning to go):

Here's a version to indulge Slippery Fish's suggestion. Not sure I'm buying it:

Here's a version reflecting ColDay's and X's suggestion to shadow-ize the buildings. Neat, but I think it turns a blind eye to Ohio's river-city connection:

And here's a version that my wife seems to find very, very amusing:

And here are some color studies (the light blue skylines should be more turquoise):

And a couple of looks at how it might work in the forum layout:

Again, read the buildings as more turquoisey:

Well you know how to sell your product.

I like the original and the shadow version but shouldn't the shadows have the same angle?

Nice job KOOW… You are the front-runner in this competition thus far!

Should I dare ask what building is the . ?

I was actually thinking of an angled skyline, meaning slightly bent to the left ala a reflection in the water (not a perspective drawing), but sure lol!

Have fun with this. I'm going to bed.

This is my new vote for best design!

Not if the light source is directly opposite the viewer (as it is here).

An object reflecting in water will always reflect up and down; never at an angle to the source object (see montecarloss' desktop): original.jpg

Unless, of course, ColDayMan chooses to reorder the laws of the known universe just for kicks. In which case I'll require photo reference.

Damn that is a beautiful desktop!  Maybe that should be the Urban Ohio logo?  ...And I still need to process those photos from my Cleveland trip.

Well, I guess the flames can be a knock to the river fire at Cleveland years ago... :)

Kingfisher- I see what you mean about the angled, shadow look.  And seperating the lettering from the buildings helped clear up the idea that it is a reflection, not a shadow.

One more suggestion I thought of while looking at the night reflection of Cinci was that white buildings/lettering with black background might look nice.

Should I dare ask what building is the . ?

I'll only tell if I win.

I do like the shadow-izing one!

Thanks for the indulgance KOOW and I don't like it that way, so I support the original design.  I liked the inhanced version where you have just the line seperating the land and the river.  Perhaps there should be a slight blur to the skyline to give it the effect of a reflection in the water?

^No problem! In order to simulate the blur on the skyline I can soften some of the angles on the buildings. Though, in my sloppiness, I may have done a bit of that already.

Fair enough.

Reference?  From me?  Surely you jest!

Apparently not.

^I love the construction version.

Thanks!

What if the skyline and words actually touched instead of having a divider?

I looked at that before but something about it rubbed me wrong, but looking at it now, not so much. With a little clean-up and some minor jiggering it may work though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Although it does look nice, I think it is more like a shadow rather than a reflection in water and I think it is important that we maintain the reference to Ohio's Waterways.

Can we have a logo with abandoned buildings that the state is so famous for? :)

See the urbanhighlandpark.com logo.

Here's on revision I made on an earlier entry.

I like that one a lot better, I think. What do you think about making the type a bit larger? I think it might also be interesting to play around with the dot sizes and stuff. Make some bigger, some smaller. I dunno. I'm just thinking .. I hope you don't mind my comments.

comments are welcomed! anyways, the dots are different sizes--i guess too subtle.

If you could make the lettering a tad bit bigger (keep in mind, it's going to fit in the area the size of the top-right logo), I think it'd work just fine.  I really am digging those designs.

He could probably make the lettering bigger, but the GREAT city-state of Cincinnati is too darn big!!!  It's taking over Ohio...

and thats not including the protectorate of northern kentucky

... yeah, I would work the "U" and "R" into Cincinnati and cut the dots just outside of the the U and R ...

Here is a final idea for the manhole logo...

Ok fellow UOers.  Here are my 2 final submissions.  The last bw pic is for fun--along the lines of the night vision map and shows the diff. dot sizes in case we can't use color for some reason.  Enjoy, this has been fun and good luck to everyone!

sorry, forgot attachments!

Alright...stop with the corn cob thing already.

I like the first of the new dots version but why doesn't dayton get any big dots?

these new logos are cool, but i thought the point of urban ohio was to also showcase smaller ohio towns?  this logo completely ignores them.

They sure do...so...uh...yeah...

Sorry Jpop... No disrespect, I get the corn cob symbolism with the building.
