Posted August 23, 200717 yr I walked by the Provident Camera building (next to Rockin Robins) last night and noticed them doing work on the floors above the store (i.e. what looked like window replacement and ladders). I know the building sold not to long ago...but I was wondering if anyone knows anything on a rehab?
August 23, 200717 yr I can't dig up anything except HVAC permits. If they are replacing windows then they are doing it without the proper permit. I can't dig up anything on a tenant, either. I'll keep looking.
August 24, 200717 yr I believe that is the Lancaster Building. It was being floated as condos a couple of years ago, I don't know whatever became of the plan.
August 24, 200717 yr Not nice 7th street is lacking people, it is lacking people. With Macy's and the bars nearby it wouldn't be a bad spot for condos.
October 15, 200816 yr Cincinnati council to consider CRA tax exemption for 18 W Seventh http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2008/10/cincinnati-council-to-consider-cra-tax.html Cincinnati City Council is considering granting a Community Reinvestment Area tax exemption that could lead to the rehabilitation of 18 W Seventh Street into seven floors of Class B office space and ground-floor retail. Building owner TBMG Properties is seeking an eight-year CRA agreement that would be equal to a 75 percent exemption on the increased property tax value. TBMG estimates that the project will create up to 14 jobs with an annual payroll of over $400,000. In giving up $10,400 in property taxes over the life of the agreement, the City hopes to gain $73,360 in earnings taxes. According to City administration, much of the building has not been suitable for commercial tenants since the 1930s and currently has no running water. Renovations, estimated at $880,000 and scheduled for completion by July 2009, would include new mechanicals, elevators, and tenant improvements. Each floor would contain approximately 2,600 square feet of rentable space. An ordinance to execute the agreement was introduced before council last Wednesday, and will need to be discussed in council's Finance Committee before further action is taken. The next meeting of council's Finance Committee is October 20. The earliest the ordinance could appear before the full council is October 22.
October 15, 200816 yr With all the other office vacancies downtown, do you think that refurbing a building into Class B Office Space is really the way to go? Just seems to me that it would be in the better interest of the city to try and steer these buildings to apartments which would increase the demand for newer office space...
October 15, 200816 yr Provident Camera is going out of business. Also, I believe this building still has an elevator with an elevator operator.

My original thoughts exactly.
October 16, 200816 yr This building is home to the "Elvis elevator" The operator who basically lives in there plastered Elvis pictures from floor to ceiling. Imay have some pics somewhere, I'll check.

I wonder how many other old vacant mixed use buildings are like this too. Reminds me of the building where Donato's Pizza is on Main St. Six or seven stories, and they're all completely painted over or shuttered.

Some people on here know other people and if some people said things about things only certain people knew they told them, then that would ruin any future knowledge of future projects that only certain people know about.

Apartments average about $1.10 a sq ft.
October 17, 200816 yr >information or how you know this. It's self-evident, as they haven't hired a new employee since about 2001 and have steadily laid off their staff until it dwindled to its present skeleton crew. The business has been up for sale for several years and there have been no buyers. They don't buy any used stuff anymore, have no online business, and don't care about building relationships or even maintaing the most obvious ones, like my employer.

I had some prints done at the shop a while back, and the quality was not that great. Blacks were more blue, saturation was poor. Many of the items in the store had a thick layer of dust. Few items for sale that were of any high value. It will be sad to see this staple leave, but they really needed to modernize and clean house years ago.
September 8, 200915 yr Anyone know what's new with this building and its planned Class B office space?
September 8, 200915 yr more importantly, does anyone know what happened to the "elvis" elevator and operator?
