Forgive my ignorance, but does the first picture suggest the origin of "Park" avenue?

I assumed the same thing.

Park Avenue carries railroad tracks outbound from Grand Central and was essentially a "park" between 34th and 40th Street.  I'm sure in the 20's or 30's, it was opened up for auto-traffic.

Park Avenue is still an appropriate name, it's just a car park now.
