March 10, 201015 yr Car break-ins are part of the cost of owning a car. My brother had his car broken into while parked behind a $300,000 house in a gated community. That same car was broken into in downtown Cincinnati twice, once in 2004 and once in 2007. I now own that car and the passenger side window doesn't like to go up and down since it's been replaced three times now and the track is bent. Again, I had my car parked at the corner of Louis and Vine, one block south of Erkenbrecher, for years, and never had any problems, nor did my roommates. I could see Dury being a problem since there are only a few houses on that street. In fact, I would suspect it was the work of someone living in one of those houses.
March 10, 201015 yr In fact, I would suspect it was the work of someone living in one of those houses. My thoughts exactly. It was a new Ford Expedition so that probably didn't help. I'm not hung up over it because that's life and it happens pretty much everywhere. The broken glass in the midafternoon was bothersome.
March 10, 201015 yr seems like a lot of cheapskates don't want to pay to park at the zoo. I've been going to the zoo for 6 years and never parked on the street. It's for a good cause, and you're not really saving a lot given the relatively low costs and inconvenience.
March 11, 201015 yr If I had on-street only as an option, I would just leave my doors unlocked. Oh yeah, and leave your shit out of view even if it's nothing expensive but could appear to be carrying something (i.e. bookbag, camera case, etc.).
March 11, 201015 yr >near the Zoo I lived across the street from the zoo for four yeas and never heard of anyone having their car broken into or any street crime whatsoever. While I don't know about recently, when I was in Kindergarten my class took a field trip to the Zoo, and one of our parent drivers parked on street and had her car broken into in the middle of the day. Also, a drive up Burnett at just about any time of the day, any day of the week can be a bit nerve wracking. Definitely some issues over there, and further out into Avondale. While Scrabble apparently wasn't going to the Zoo, whoever the parent driver is that made edale and a bunch of kindergartners march through Avondale on a Bataan-style death march instead of paying the 2 or 3 bucks to park is a cheapskate and deserved a broken window.

In first through third grades we had to walk from Sands Montessori at Freeman and Poplar in the West End to the Leblond Boys & Girls Club at Central Parkway and Liberty in order to go swimming. Looking back I assume it must have been tougher on the teachers because there was no way 25 kids were walking with any sense of urgency.
March 11, 201015 yr The zoo has been acting to move its parking and front door away from Avondale and toward Vine St. It unfortunately has gone a bit overboard, demolishing all kinds of unnecessary stuff, including my old apartment. In fact there have been rumors for over 10 years that the hospitals will bulldoze the 50+ houses on Louis, Shields, and the south side of Erckenbrecher. Obviously Children's has been busy demolishing the Burnett Area, so anything's possible.
March 12, 201015 yr Downtown Key Bank robbed Cincinnati police are responding to a report of a bank robbery in downtown Cincinnati at Key Bank, 53 E. Fourth St., according to emergency communication reports. A weapon was not seen. The suspect handed a female teller a note and then demanded it back. The suspect fled westbound on Fourth Street. He is described as white, in his 20s, with a buzz haircut and gray sweatshirt with a black jacket. He has a large wing tattoo on his neck. The Enquirer will update this story as information develops. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100312/NEWS01/303120018/Downtown+Key+Bank+robbed This is all kinds of awesome. Any time you want to rob a downtown bank in broad daylight, make sure you have a large wing tattoo visible on your neck. Cross-post to "UO Stupid Criminals" thread.
March 12, 201015 yr This is pretty nifty: http://www.crimereports.com/map/index/?search=310%20Ezzard%20Charles%20Drive+Cincinnati+OH
March 23, 201015 yr I wondered what happened when I drove by here just an hour ago. I had some kids come up and throw things at my car (tiny rocks, thankfully). WTF? "Welcome to my hood," said one. Gee, thanks. Coroner called to shooting scene By Jennifer Baker, Cincinnati Enquirer, March 23, 2010 OVER-THE-RHINE - [...] The victim was identified by police as Ramone Johnson, 21. He was found shot in the head and lying in the street about 11:40 a.m. Emergency communications broadcasts said the gunman ran away and may have been between 13 and 15 years of age. He was described as black, short and bald, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. [...]
March 23, 201015 yr I wondered what happened when I drove by here just an hour ago. I had some kids come up and throw things at my car (tiny rocks, thankfully). WTF? "Welcome to my hood," said one. Gee, thanks. And you ridiculed me for calling the neighborhood ghetto?
March 23, 201015 yr It technically is called a ghetto by all factual terminology, but to use it in a deprecatory manner, no. I refer to it as a higher-crime area, brought on by illicit drug usage and poor social-economic conditions. I alluded to throngs of people hanging out near the crime scene and the kids throwing things at my car. Yeah, I'd like to call the cops on that, but they were across the street whittling their thumbs and could care less.
March 23, 201015 yr Here is another one...no accountablity or order (regressing as a society) http://www.wlwt.com/news/22921510/detail.html
March 23, 201015 yr I just must have poor timing. I was going to Robin Imaging around 3 PM and saw a guy limping along Linn.
March 23, 201015 yr There was a shooting Saturday in broad daylight on Vine St. near Schwartz's Point. It's sad that this is a sign spring has arrived...
March 23, 201015 yr There's a couple of hookers soliciting on McMicken between McMillan and Straight Sts. It's really sad, because they look like they are 16.
March 24, 201015 yr I wondered what happened when I drove by here just an hour ago. I had some kids come up and throw things at my car (tiny rocks, thankfully). I did that a few times when I was a kid. It's because I was a dumbass. This happened in the suburbs.
March 24, 201015 yr Here is another one...no accountablity or order (regressing as a society) http://www.wlwt.com/news/22921510/detail.html Yep. The victim didn't even cooperate with authorities.
March 24, 201015 yr I'm somewhat annoyed that one of the shootings today happened in the West End but our local media reported it as taking place in Over the Rhine. I'm going to start saying that things that happened in Covington actually happened in Newport.
March 24, 201015 yr I'm somewhat annoyed that one of the shootings today happened in the West End but our local media reported it as taking place in Over the Rhine. I'm going to start saying that things that happened in Covington actually happened in Newport. Ask the local media where the boundaries of Clifton are. At least Linn is just a couple blocks from OTR.
March 24, 201015 yr Yeah, "Clifton" is the worst for that. People generally refer to all of Uptown as "Clifton" when it's actually a very small, defined neighborhood. I'm always conscience of saying "Clifton Heights", "Fairview", "Uptown", "Corryville", etc., but most people don't know the difference.
March 24, 201015 yr http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100324/NEWS01/303240002/Man+shot+to+death+in+Avondale These have to be connected...5 murders in 5 days
March 24, 201015 yr Cincy get gangs up from New Orleans or something? Never heard of 5 murders in 5 days before.
March 24, 201015 yr Who effing cares. Seriously. It's all just drug crap and if you're not involved in drugs or have a crazy girlfriend/wife you have zero chance of being killed in this city. Moderators, shut down this thread. Oh wait...
March 24, 201015 yr Bah. Let's do the usual and blame the good weather we've been having for the increase in violence. Or the closing of Queensgate jail. Or... this is terrible. A murder down the street from me, and two near fatals within 10 blocks of my apartment.
March 24, 201015 yr Who effing cares. Seriously. It's all just drug crap and if you're not involved in drugs or have a crazy girlfriend/wife you have zero chance of being killed in this city. Moderators, shut down this thread. Oh wait... I'd guess the families of the victims, and the people living in the neighborhoods that have to be subjected to violence everyday care. While your chances of being murdered are very, very low, murder is representative of the worst of crime, so if murder is up in a neighborhood, chances are other crime that is more likely to effect you is also up (not to mention property values, perception of the neighborhood, etc.)
March 24, 201015 yr Who effing cares. Seriously. It's all just drug crap and if you're not involved in drugs or have a crazy girlfriend/wife you have zero chance of being killed in this city. Moderators, shut down this thread. Oh wait... We should all care about violence in our community. Not necessarily to fear it, but to act in a way that might reduce or prevent it. It's also disrespectful to the victims and their families to go on the way you do. No one deserves this.
March 24, 201015 yr And to note, the moderators will not shut down this thread because someone feels offended. It's not all "drug crap" or related to "crazy girlfriend/wife" issues; there were quite a few innocent victims last year, either fatally injured or wounded. We may not all report or post on every crime bit that occurs. If it is local and near to me, or affects me in some manner, be damn sure I'll post something about it. To say that no one should care about this, Jake, is something that I again disagree. It's occurring in our communities and our neighborhoods, and we should not be dusting this under the rug because it was potentially related to drugs or crazy girlfriends. Your comment is disrespectful to the families of the victims and to the victim(s) themselves; more are affected than who you would think.
March 24, 201015 yr I think its disrespectful to all the "crazy girlfriends/wives" out there. Not all of them are murderers, some just nag you until you desire to committ suicide!
March 24, 201015 yr Two shot in East Price Hill By Eileen Kelley, Cincinnati Enquirer, March 24, 2010 Cincinnati police say two people were wounded Wednesday in a gun battle near the McDonald's restaurant on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill near Seton and Elder high schools. Police say a sport utility vehicle pulled up in front of some people on Ross Avenue at Warsaw Avenue at about 2:15 p.m. Two men jumped out and started shooting, wounding two people. The shooting victims returned gunfire. See the article for the remainder.
March 24, 201015 yr This is what a gang war looks like. The tectonic plates of the criminal underground are colliding.
March 24, 201015 yr I wonder if COAST and the NAACP are still convinced that we don't need a new prison. Also, I hear rumors that people are coming from Clermont County and Northern Kentucky to Anderson Township to do their shop-lifting. They know that Hamilton County doesn't have enough prison space.
March 24, 201015 yr I wonder if COAST and the NAACP are still convinced that we don't need a new prison. Also, I hear rumors that people are coming from Clermont County and Northern Kentucky to Anderson Township to do their shop-lifting. They know that Hamilton County doesn't have enough prison space Just wondering. How do you know they are not talking about it? Have you been to all their meetings? Do you really think any of them can make a difference? If they are not listening to Bill cosby to won't listen to anyone. Infact they will be offended and do more crime not less.
March 24, 201015 yr COAST wants a new prison, they just don't want it paid for. No amount of prisons will be enough until the country reexamines the drug war. We need to be smarter about how we punish crimes, not just create more space. We have way too high a percentage of our population in prisons. More prisons aren't an answer.
March 24, 201015 yr If COAST is so serious about being proper libertarians, maybe they should start a petition to legalize pot in Hamilton County. I'd sign it.
March 24, 201015 yr There have been 5 homicides in the last 5 days, not counting the shooting in Price Hill. If they are related, I think it's related to weather. More people are spending time outside because the weather is good, and they come in contact with each other more. They say that bad weather is the policeman's friend.
March 24, 201015 yr If COAST is so serious about being proper libertarians, maybe they should start a petition to legalize pot in Hamilton County. I'd sign it. It's illegal under state law. They could petition for a statewide referendum on the issue. California is doing just that. They don't seem to be interested in the issue, though, as is evident by their mum acceptance of Cecil Thomas's push a few years ago to stiffen the penalties in the city. Instead of just issuing $100 citations for simple possession (which reliably makes money), minor possession is now a criminal offense in city limits, so enforcement now involves all the costs entailed by arrest, booking, holding, trials, etc. This just isn't the kind of "additional spending" which 'COAST' refers to, I guess.
March 24, 201015 yr ^ See 24 times. Strip them of their citizenship, then banish them to some ungoverned country.
March 24, 201015 yr This is what a gang war looks like. The tectonic plates of the criminal underground are colliding. GANG WAR IN CINCY!!!

Do you really think any of them can make a difference? If they are not listening to Bill cosby to won't listen to anyone. Infact they will be offended and do more crime not less. I don't understand everything you're saying. No, I don't attend COAST or NAACP meetings. I don't know what they are discussing, so that's why I started the post by saying "I wonder if...." All I know is that COAST and the local NAACP campaigned heavily against building a new prison in Hamilton County the last time the issue was on the ballot. I don't understand what the comment about "they will commit more crime" is referencing.
March 25, 201015 yr Deters laughed the other day when someone said the jail was filled with minor criminals. That fact is not true. As he said, you wouldn't want most of these people walking the streets.
March 25, 201015 yr I do believe Deters in this case. I've heard several policemen say that they will arrest someone at the beginning of their shift for shoplifting. Before the end of the shift, they are arrest the same person again because they weren't kept in prison for more than ten minutes.
