It's been well over a year since I last took a camera and hit the streets in this town, but the other day I finally got to a neighborhood that's been on my list forever.  It's called Schenk-Atwood, at least officially, and it's one of the main east side neighborhoods in Madison.  The commercial district actually didn't seem nearly as cool when walking around on a hot Sunday afternoon as it always seemed when driving through.  I guess there's really just one lively block, which is probably the only block I'd actually seen on foot before.

 

Anyway, whatever.  These are not very exciting, but here they are anyway.

 

Barrymore Theatre, etc.  This would be the more lively block mentioned above.

 

Heading west from there.  As you can see there are some new buildings among the older ones.

 

This vicinity is called Schenk's Corners, named for some dude.

Pepsi and Mountain Dew? Color TV? This must be the most popular place in town!

 

Taco Palace!  Gotta try that one of these days...

 

More new stuff.

 

Now I'm east of where I started.

 

An icon shop, apparently.

 

I used to always see this church above the treetops from my previous apartment, and always meant to go take a photo of it.

 

Whatevs.

 

This I find fascinating.

 

Back to about where I began.

 

And here we are.  There's the top of the Barrymore again.

I like how the windows appear to be dropping off the Taco Palace building.

Pigboy. I have a question.  First of all I love the thread, but how did you get the colors so bright?  Did you do any processing before you put them up here or is your camera on a certain setting or filter??

Say, did we drive through there when I swung through Madison a while back?  I thought I recognized some of that, but not all of it...

DJ, the colors generally turn out nicely from my camera to begin with (no special settings or anything), but I did do a bit of Photoshop enhancement. :wink:
