Posted September 2, 200717 yr LOL!!! No. 5 Michigan stunned by I-AA App. State ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) What was supposed to be a tuneup turned into a stunner: Appalachian State 34, No. 5 Michigan 32. Julian Rauch s 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds left Saturday put the Mountaineers ahead of the Wolverines and Corey Lynch blocked a field goal in the final seconds to seal one of college football s biggest upsets.
September 2, 200717 yr Photos from: http://www.mlive.com/annarbornews/ Oh, no. No! Oh, dear god.... NO!!! Let's go Buckeyes!
September 3, 200717 yr And to add insult to injury, Miss Teen South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton, took a pass on U of M in favor of App. State: From Fox "News": ...A YouTube video of Upton has drawn a couple million hits and thousands of comments, many of them with harsh remarks for the Lexington High School graduate who plans to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,294922,00.html
September 3, 200717 yr Saw part of Lloyd Carr's press conference on ESPNEWS. He reminds me of the way John Cooper coached Ohio State. Under Carr, UM has a losing record against OSU, a losing record in bowl games and now a history-making loss to Div. IAA App. State. As a buckeye fan I'm hoping Carr gets a multi-year extension.
September 5, 200717 yr The best part of this loss for Michigan is their fans have nothing to argue about it.. if they lose to ND or someone they'll argue their schedule.. this just has them silent. I love it!
September 5, 200717 yr The replay of the game is on FSN right now (Tuesday around 9pm).. it's great seeing the hopes and dreams of every Michigan player and fan get crushed by a 1AA team.
September 5, 200717 yr They are 0-3 since Bo Schembechler died (and the Dead Schembechlers changed their name).
September 5, 200717 yr And to top it all off those losers are the first team ever to fall from the Top 5 in the polls to being unranked the next week.
September 5, 200717 yr They just continued where they left off last year. After that loss to the BUCKEYES it really put a dagger in their confidence. I wouldn't have thought it affected them that much though (hehe). They were already looking ahead to the final game.
September 5, 200717 yr Actually I really feel for michigan right now! First we got Toledo & now this!?
September 5, 200717 yr They just continued where they left off last year. After that loss to the BUCKEYES it really put a dagger in their confidence. This goes back far, far longer than last year. It has nothing to do with confidence. Michigan has struggled with the spread offense for at least a decade. I remember the beginning of the season after the '97 championship, when U-M lost to an option running ND in South Bend and I pissed in my friend's dorm room. Then we lost the home opener to Donovan McNabb's feet and arm. The last several games have just highlighted it. Under Carr, U-M has lost to too many early season opponents it has no business losing to. Washington, ND several times, Oregon, UCLA, almost to Ball State last year, and now this. But because they know how to play successfully in the Big Ten, they've been able to put together relatively successful seasons. The program never had a terrible year, never reached a crisis point, like ND, Penn State, Alabama and so on. Well, here's your crisis point. I remember the preseason SI in 1997 that had Michigan around 15th. It said something to the effect of "let's face it, Michigan football isn't what it used to be." Now, Michigan has to face it -- it no longer can be what it used to be.
September 5, 200717 yr That last paragraph. What an eloquent bitchslap. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

September 6, 200717 yr App ST. better enjoy it while they can because I doubt It will ever happen again in our lifetime.
September 6, 200717 yr Let them enjoy it. I mean, they did make history, afterall. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

September 8, 200717 yr Well Oregon is officially beating up Michigan...their defense just looks confused and their offense looks out-hustled.
September 8, 200717 yr the only bad thing I can think of for Ohio State is that this most certainly spells the end of Lloyd Carr (Michigan's Version of Cooper) I said it last year that by Michigan making it to a big bowl game last year, was the worst possible thing for Michigan, because it meant that Carr saved his job for one more year.
September 9, 200717 yr UC just beat Oregon STATE. Not Oregon..... but UC could probably beat Michigan... lol
September 9, 200717 yr Wow, I didn't think it could get any better than last week, but Michigan didn't disappoint :-D. In all honesty, they looked so sluggish on both sides of the ball. I called a couple of Oregan's TD's right on que; it was like you just knew when they were going to score on Michigan. Sad day to be a Wolverine's fan
September 9, 200717 yr I would have to say that the fake statue of liberty, run by Oregon, was a beauty!
September 9, 200717 yr ^ maby this will help (Top quote from the pope in the Cincinnati Bearcats Football discussion thread) Don't know if you guys care, but your old Coach is off to a 2-0 start..... http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070908/COL22/70908019 This quote from that ^ link scrapinby I want to see how this team responds to adversity. Two years ago the Spartans fell apart after the blocked fieldgoal at Ohio State (just before halftime) and were never the same team. Last year it was the collapse to Notre Dame that destroyed the season. GO GREEN! Posted: Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:36 am
September 9, 200717 yr This looks like a long season. I'm holding out hope that this ends like 1998, with an 0-2 start and a Big Ten championship. Somehow, I doubt it. This thread just shows how much more OSU fans care about U-M than vice versa. While I think that Carr's time has come, there's a certain irony to comparing him to Cooper, since Carr beat him 5-1 I think.
September 9, 200717 yr The first ranked team to lose to a 1AA team EVER; the first #5 team to drop out of the ranking entirely; and following it up with a complete beat-down the next week. This isn't about OSU fans - this is about Michigan experiencing humiliation on an historic scale! If situations were reversed, I would hope they'd be selling out of Youngstown Penguins t-shirts in Ann Arbor - as Jim Rome says, that's what makes college sports so fantastic - the hate!
September 9, 200717 yr If situations were reversed, I would hope they'd be selling out of Youngstown Penguins t-shirts in Ann Arbor - as Jim Rome says, that's what makes college sports so fantastic - the hate! If the situation were reversed, huge swaths of Columbus would no longer exist. And they wouldn't be selling Youngstown shirts in Ann Arbor. At least, not in my day.
September 9, 200717 yr If the situation were reversed, huge swaths of Columbus would no longer exist. And they wouldn't be selling Youngstown shirts in Ann Arbor. At least, not in my day. HAHAHAHHAHAH
September 9, 200717 yr If UC keeps it up, Brian Kelly might be getting some calls from the 734 area code, though I think he's too much a hot shot for Michigan to hire him. I think Ferentz has an inside track on the Michigan job though, but who knows what's going to happen.
