Posted September 3, 200717 yr Not the same view as last year... Here's a few pre-fireworks shots: The parachuters: It wasn't a spectacular sunset, but it was a beautiful one... ...reflecting off Scripps: The big plane, maybe a bomber? Ah, what a building: Night is falling: Like I said - not spectacular, but beautiful: And now fireworks shots: Aw, hearts: Goodnight, my lady:
September 3, 200717 yr Nice shots! Looks like you had a great view of the city as well as the fireworks.
September 3, 200717 yr Looking at the aerial view of the tile pattern on Fountain Sq. I wonder if it's a hazard to people with poor depth perception.
September 3, 200717 yr Beautiful Riverviewer, I might have to venture past the serpentine wall next year. This was my fourth year their and we were 5 rows up off the river. I took about 200 photos and I will try and post some of them tomorrow. It looked like you were on top of Convergys (former). How did you get up there, do you have to know someone? Yes the plane was a Air Force C-130 Hercules Airlifter made by Lockheed.
September 3, 200717 yr Yeah, my folks happened to be coming into town this weekend, and I remembered that Mom knew someone connected to the building...it was really last-minute, but worked out nicely! It was a great location, but what I liked most was the different perspective on the city...I'm glad we got there early so I could get at least a few pre-sunset city shots. It was a little distant for fireworks, but it was comfortable, and didn't take more than six or seven minutes to get home, since we were six blocks ahead of everyone and got out ahead of the traffic!
September 3, 200717 yr Beautiful shots RiverViewer, you had a great view of the fireworks. ^ Anyone know what that glass building across the river (I'm assuming that's Covington?) Me like.
September 3, 200717 yr Yes, that's Covington - that's The Ascent at Roebling's Bridge - here's the thread on it...
September 3, 200717 yr I noticed you can even see the Ascent when coming south-bound on 71 in Cincinnati.
September 3, 200717 yr Wasn't able to attend this year and I will be the first to say channel 5 sucks! I could have given a better show than they did. Embarrassing that the Pentagon was airing this on Armed Forces TV for the first time and they had to listen to these clowns. Great shots though RV, I am jealous of your perch!!!!!!
September 3, 200717 yr Freakin' fantastic shots, Ethan! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 4, 200717 yr Yeah, my folks happened to be coming into town this weekend, and I remembered that Mom knew someone connected to the building...it was really last-minute, but worked out nicely! I hear that. Connections got me and the missus access to the top of the BCBS building for the Detroit-Windsor Freedom Festival fireworks a few years ago. Effin' Fantastic. By comparison, all other fireworks displays are a fist full of snap-pops. Nice shots anyway, RV.
September 4, 200717 yr Very nice...I had never thought of that building as being a good location for viewing the fireworks. But it looks like an interesting view.
September 4, 200717 yr Especially like this one. I saw that bomber flying around for hours on Sunday. What was that about?
September 4, 200717 yr That's actually a C-130 cargo plane (thanks, by the way, Thomas and Monte)...two years ago they had a Harrier jet that game in and almost hovered over the riverfront... ...though if they had some bombs, I guess they could have started site prep for the Ovation...
September 4, 200717 yr Where were you and what did you do for the Fireworks? Post over here http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=14002.new#new
September 4, 200717 yr I saw that bomber flying around for hours on Sunday. What was that about? We're at war! ;) BTW...I merged the post you referenced about "where did you go, what did you do" with the Riverfest topic in Events: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=13970.0
September 4, 200717 yr I remember opening day (reds) a couple of years ago ... there were 2 stealth fight jets that flew right over downtown and almost blew my eardrums out ... it was worth every second.
September 5, 200717 yr Those are awesome! It made me a little homesick...esp. since no where in Texas, especially Waco, celebrates Labor Day with Fireworks. I made a fool of myself and asked but people just gave me interesting looks.
