Guess I got there just after you, Richard. It's funny though because a couple of your shots in the other thread were taken at the exact same locations where I took some of mine.

I would have stayed down there longer and taken more pics, but I was pressed for time. That always sucks, but it was the first nice day this year I did get some pics.

There is now a real crane in place, so things should start to pick up. :D

I might just go see it today.

Well the 37 story portion is on hold for around 2 years or until 50% leased. The 15 story smaller portion is U/C.

What's it going to look like at street level? That always concerns me about skyscrapers. Are we going to get another barren, windswept plaza?

 

Bah...it doesn't matter anyway. About the only action down there right now is the In Between Tavern and cars entering and exiting garages.

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority Thursday approved $45 million in bonds to build downtown's first new office tower in more than a decade.

 

Port-issued bonds will cover the bulk of development costs for Eagle Realty Group's $62.5 million Queen City Square project. Eight office floors and a 688-space parking garage are planned at the northwest corner of Third Street and Broadway.

I don't think so. They have to build the parking garage which is under and above ground. I say give it 2 more months and it will actually be above ground.

I walked past Queen City Square today and it is officially at street level so it should begin to pick up here shortly............

I took a couple there too, but deleted them when I got home because there just isn't much to see yet. The Kroger garage project at Vine and Central Pkwy. is further along than Queen City Square at this point.

Nice pic Rich. Looks like everything is coming along quite well. As for the phase 2, I'm sure we are going to see a dramatic redesign of the main tower as opposed to the old rendering. The first phase's facade or design is nothing like the old one. I think they have something in mind at HOK. Wonder when someone is going to leak it out? :cool:

Well...after much deliberation, I decided to write to HOK in a pthetic attempt to get some info about QCS. This is what I wrote and the response I got back...obviously, they don't want to release anything about it. Strange considering everyone has already seen the original renderings. Do they have something sweet planned for us? Only time will tell.

Interesting to see the responses of architects to inquiries like yours. RTKL send me pdfs of Cleveland's Bank One Center and the Wyndham Hotel, Cesar Pelli emailed a bunch of text info... the local architecture firms? Zilch. Not even a courtesy reply.

 

And if QCS is over 900 ft., I'll personally lop off that silly 'tiara' and knock it down to size! :twisted:

Well, I decided to write back to HOK, and they apparently believed my sobing story about my grandmother's fear of never seeing the completed QCS Project and they sent me the following final release rendering of QCS shown next to Key Tower to scale...

While Cleveland is a nice city, the skyline does nothing for me. The tall towers leave too many gaps and it would totally throw off Cincinnati's dense skyline.

 

If a 1000 footer were to be built in Cincinnati, I would want it around Fountain Square. Queen City Square is on the fringe of the skyline and will fill a gap that has existed for too long

I dunno. As I said, I think it would look out of place, but I would rather it be more on an edge than right smack in the middle of downtown. Putting the tallest in the middle is so... normal. It'd look just like Indy, or Atlanta, or LA or something.

I have a classmate here at the U of Tennessee that worked for HOK St. Louis last summer and remembers the physical model and what not in the office. Certainly the model was of the original design but he might know some of their dark secrets.

Yea Cleveland's really tall towers on public square are a bit goofy. They're part of the "boom boom 80s/90s" era, if everything proposed got built then the skyline would have probably rivaled Chicago (-gasp- dont ever tell a chiagoan that lol)

 

But yea Cincinnati could use a few 700+ buildings and even an 800ft one. But 1000? that would be a RenCen all over again heh no matter where you put it. btw why would someone put it on the edge of a downtown? that wouldnt look right unless it was the same height as the current tallest.
