Very nice.

Does anyone had new renderings of the first building? I have emailed the guy enough, can someone else take a shot?

www.queencitysquare.com

Guess I got there just after you, Richard. It's funny though because a couple of your shots in the other thread were taken at the exact same locations where I took some of mine.

I would have stayed down there longer and taken more pics, but I was pressed for time. That always sucks, but it was the first nice day this year I did get some pics.

There is now a real crane in place, so things should start to pick up. :D

I might just go see it today.

As much as I like the renderings for the skyscraper, does it bother anyone else that the large crown is what's going to make it the tallest in Cincinnati? Call it personal bias, but if Cincy's going to have a new tallest, it would be nice for the high-rise to actually have more than 50 floors.

I hear ya. But with the way things have been for most mid-western cities....any new skyscrapers is nice to get.

Of course, I completely agree with you Rich. :)

Anyone know when the skyscaper portion is going to be built?

Anyone know when the skyscaper portion is going to be built?

Well the 37 story portion is on hold for around 2 years or until 50% leased. The 15 story smaller portion is U/C.

Here is the original write-up on QCS:

Queen City Square

Fourth and Sycamore Streets

Cincinnati, OH 45202

For Lease, Queen City Square, Cincinnati's Premier Business Center, located in the heart of the downtown financial district at Fourth & Sycamore Streets. 37 story, 800,000 square foot , Class A+ office development situated on 2.5 acres with 2,200 car parking garage. Projected occupancy is 1st to 2nd quarter of 2005.

Queen City Square, an exceptionally designed premier office development with 37 stories and more than 800,000 square feet, will tower at the forefront of the downtown business district skyline. With its signature, tiara-shaped top, Queen City Square will create one of Cincinnati's most prestigious and boldest landmarks. Its highly orchestrated design blends elegance with technological and functional innovation to create a prestigious corporate environment, shaped from the inside out, to meet the needs of modern day businesses. No other downtown Cincinnati office building is better designed to meet a company's needs for flexibility, efficiency, advanced technology and distinction.

Here is the latest write-up:

This is the latest rendering of what Phase I will look like.

What's it going to look like at street level? That always concerns me about skyscrapers. Are we going to get another barren, windswept plaza?

Bah...it doesn't matter anyway. About the only action down there right now is the In Between Tavern and cars entering and exiting garages.

I posted an article about QCS and city council on cincinnnatitomorrow.com if you want to read more about it.

Since I seem to be cutting and pasting the entire newspaper today, here's some news on QCS from the 6/11/04 Enquirer:

Building bonds approved

Downtown tower going up at 3rd and Broadway

By Ken Alltucker

The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority Thursday approved $45 million in bonds to build downtown's first new office tower in more than a decade.

Port-issued bonds will cover the bulk of development costs for Eagle Realty Group's $62.5 million Queen City Square project. Eight office floors and a 688-space parking garage are planned at the northwest corner of Third Street and Broadway.

Good news... now just get some money for the big tower!

yean...i would love to see the big one go up

Have the tower started to come out the ground yet........Does anybody know.......

Have the tower started to come out the ground yet........Does anybody know.......

I don't think so. They have to build the parking garage which is under and above ground. I say give it 2 more months and it will actually be above ground.

  • 3 weeks later...

I walked past Queen City Square today and it is officially at street level so it should begin to pick up here shortly............

I took a couple there too, but deleted them when I got home because there just isn't much to see yet. The Kroger garage project at Vine and Central Pkwy. is further along than Queen City Square at this point.

Nice pic Rich. Looks like everything is coming along quite well. As for the phase 2, I'm sure we are going to see a dramatic redesign of the main tower as opposed to the old rendering. The first phase's facade or design is nothing like the old one. I think they have something in mind at HOK. Wonder when someone is going to leak it out?

yess. i hope it will. I hope the hieght will stay close to 700 feet though

I'm hoping for around 900ft myself!

Which one of you downtowners can i sucker into acting like a webcam (yes i did see the most recent photo) for someone unavoidably detained trying to complete their second rate education? I would come check it out myself but Knoxville is a bit of a drive.

The folks at wcpo seem to think people are more interested in their new "building"

I'm still trying to figure out what you're trying to say in that first part.

Then again, I'm not a downtowner so it doesn't apply to me anyway.

Help me out with more frequently updated photographs as I don’t exactly have the ability to go down and take a look for myself whenever I want.

I was merely referencing the fact that wcpo has not included qcs in its list of construction cams

I apologize if I am not up to UrbanOhio standards on clarity at this point...but I will get better with time!

Standards? We have "standards"? :D

Sorry, thanks for clarifying. Maybe someone who lives closer can take on that job. It would be fun to follow.

Well...after much deliberation, I decided to write to HOK in a pthetic attempt to get some info about QCS. This is what I wrote and the response I got back...obviously, they don't want to release anything about it. Strange considering everyone has already seen the original renderings. Do they have something sweet planned for us? Only time will tell.

Dear HOK;

I was wondering if you had any information regarding Queen City Square in Cincinnati, OH located at 303 Broadway? This project is currently under construction and was designed by your firm. I was wondering if you have any technical data concerning thi project, specifically, I would really like to know the height for my illustration of Queen City Square that can be found at Skyscraperpage.com. http://www.skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b7314. I'm sure as you can see, it is greatly in need of being updated and I'm sure that the dimensions for the building are not entirely accurate.

Additionally, do you have any updated renderings of the phase 2 portion of Queen City Square which is to include the 37 story high-rise portion? Any information is helpful and would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Ronnie Garrett

Interesting to see the responses of architects to inquiries like yours. RTKL send me pdfs of Cleveland's Bank One Center and the Wyndham Hotel, Cesar Pelli emailed a bunch of text info... the local architecture firms? Zilch. Not even a courtesy reply.

And if QCS is over 900 ft., I'll personally lop off that silly 'tiara' and knock it down to size!

Translation:

"We hold all of the cards, and you, as the person who will have to live with this development and won't make any money off of it, well, you can go f*ck yourself."

The tiara looks stupid, yes.

^I suppose it isn't *that* bad' date=' it's just my habitual scowling at the notion of Cleveland not having the state's 3 tallest :D[/quote']

Well, I decided to write back to HOK, and they apparently believed my sobing story about my grandmother's fear of never seeing the completed QCS Project and they sent me the following final release rendering of QCS shown next to Key Tower to scale...

**Key Tower diagram by James Raymond

wooow!!! thats tyte

I will shit my pants if it is 900+ft. Which probably won't happen.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

hey it doesnt look half bad at 950ft

We should add a big tiara thing to BP Tower just to hold the #3 spot lol

950ft is quite nice, but lets not stop there.....1000 is even better.

Wait...is this for real??? The drawing is to scale with Key Tower and HOK provided it to you?!?!

So is this and idication OCS has now gorwn from ~575' to ~950' ?

The 'nati with an 900+ ?! Wow! Next we will get NBA and NHL...

Sorry, but he was only joking. The drunken emoticon gives it way. We could only wish for something like this to happen.

sorry...i can't type today!

Hahah true' date=' a 900 or 1000+ footer would be awesome, but I think it would look just a wee bit out of place in the Queen City.

Of course, we're getting 2 [i']more[/i] 1000 footers in Chi-Town... [/Chicago arrogance]

dammit i wanna 1000 footer in cincinnati

I don't know if I would want a 1000 footer in Cincinnati.

While Cleveland is a nice city, the skyline does nothing for me. The tall towers leave too many gaps and it would totally throw off Cincinnati's dense skyline.

If a 1000 footer were to be built in Cincinnati, I would want it around Fountain Square. Queen City Square is on the fringe of the skyline and will fill a gap that has existed for too long

I dunno. As I said, I think it would look out of place, but I would rather it be more on an edge than right smack in the middle of downtown. Putting the tallest in the middle is so... normal. It'd look just like Indy, or Atlanta, or LA or something.

I have a classmate here at the U of Tennessee that worked for HOK St. Louis last summer and remembers the physical model and what not in the office. Certainly the model was of the original design but he might know some of their dark secrets.

Yea Cleveland's really tall towers on public square are a bit goofy. They're part of the "boom boom 80s/90s" era, if everything proposed got built then the skyline would have probably rivaled Chicago (-gasp- dont ever tell a chiagoan that lol)

But yea Cincinnati could use a few 700+ buildings and even an 800ft one. But 1000? that would be a RenCen all over again heh no matter where you put it. btw why would someone put it on the edge of a downtown? that wouldnt look right unless it was the same height as the current tallest.
