August 22, 200717 yr ^The Wainwright Building (which I believe is in St. Louis) designed by Louis Sullivan is typically cited as the first skyscraper. Nobody has ever called the Ingalls building on 4th and Vine the first skyscraper, but it was the first to be built with reinforced concrete or some such method.
August 22, 200717 yr I was at the Reds game last night (actually saw a good game and a win), but kept imagining QCSII looming over the stadium. Can't wait!
August 22, 200717 yr >I was thinking the same thing. The the north side of 3rd and sycamore is about 475 ft. above sea level and 5th and vine is about 575 ft. above sea level. So from a distance it QCS may not look as tall as the Carew. It's definitely not 100 feet higher. You're probably getting those numbers off of Google Earth's altitude figures, which are usually in the neighborhood but aren't accurate in situations like this. Even the level of Pete Rose Way is not 100 feet below 5th St. It might be 70ft. but no more than that and 4th no more than 30ft. higher than 3rd.
August 22, 200717 yr Yeah, I got those numbers from mapmyrun.com(the best website ever created for runners), which uses the Google Earth program. Maybe it is inaccurate, but I still think the difference between 3rd and 5th street is significant. That is a fairly steep hill. Maybe, steep enough to negate the difference in height between the Carew and QCSII.
August 22, 200717 yr but it was the first to be built with reinforced concrete or some such method. That's true!
August 22, 200717 yr IMHO this chick torpedoed all her credibility just by loving Deconstructivist architecture. /puke But that's just my opinion.
August 23, 200717 yr what a bimbo...anybody who thinks of the roebling as something to view from the highways is suburbanite, anti-urban trash. that $%^ wouldn't know architecture if it bit her in the ass.....god forbid an office building look like an office building and not be a ghery original. do you know how ugly our city would be if all it had was landmarks surrounded by empty space? it would be DC but its not, its the nati. stupid twit.
August 23, 200717 yr Personally, I think the Liebskind building looks like a gimmick. The best view of it is when it seen through the buildings of downtown Cincinnati, coming south down '71.
August 23, 200717 yr I think the best view of it is actually from behind the building in Covington. That's where it looks tallest.
August 23, 200717 yr Right on Cramer I noticed that too. The best view ever is from the top of the Hiram Steps on Milton St in Prospect Hill.
August 24, 200717 yr I also posted this in the in the Cincinnati Economy and Market Reports thread, but it may apply here too..... JPMorgan to add jobs, space BY CLIFF PEALE | [email protected] After buying a unit of Western & Southern Financial Group Inc. and taking two floors in the company's office building at Third and Broadway streets downtown, JPMorgan plans to both expand its space and add more employees downtown. Roy Rogers, the president of Integrated Investment Services before it was sold to JPMorgan earlier this year and now a senior vice president at Morgan, wouldn't provide details, but said expansion is on the company's agenda. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070824/BIZ01/708240351/1076/BIZ
August 24, 200717 yr Southbound on Highland Ave in Mt Auburn. Looks pretty cool from there. Why're you undermining me, man?
September 5, 200717 yr I just walked by our bid board here at work and it is dated for Sep 12. Some exciting stuff!
September 5, 200717 yr I just walked by our bid board here at work and it is dated for Sep 12. Some exciting stuff! What specifically is dated for Sep 12?
September 5, 200717 yr You must mean of next year...because there is no way in heck that they can get that garage down and start construction by next week.
September 5, 200717 yr No, not construction! Just BIDS! Not as relavant as breaking ground, but it is the beginning stages of construction planning. I have no idea as to a start date though. Summer or Fall of 08 probably. Agree, it will take several months to get the site ready whenever they bring the garage down.
September 5, 200717 yr That is all we got. Generally, the contractors that hire us are concrete related so I would assume they are starting with bids related to foundation work and maybe site prep. I don't know too many details other than what has been discussed on this thread. Obvious, they must be moving forward if 1st revision plans are out for bid though.
September 11, 200717 yr ^Easy there hard-charger...it's only early September. I would expect "official" word in October-November this year.
September 27, 200717 yr I wonder if this could spark anything for the QCS II? It seems as though the Bartlett has a considerable amount of tennants. Bartlett tenants may move Developer has plans to bring in hotel BY LISA BERNARD-KUHN | [email protected] Changes potentially in store for the Bartlett Building at 4th and Walnut streets could leave more than two dozen downtown tenants, including American Airlines, looking for new homes. Sterling Phoenix Development VI LLC, a Chicago-based real estate investment firm, said Wednesday it was in discussions with "global hotel operators" and is exploring possible "best uses" for the downtown building, which was the city's first skyscraper. Sterling Phoenix purchased the 18-story tower in March 2006 for $8.2 million. At the time the firm said it planned to invest up to $4 million in renovations, which included upgrades to the building's ornate lobby and its grand ballroom. Construction on the building began in 1901 and was finished in 1913.
September 27, 200717 yr Wow, 30 tenants! I wonder how many will stay DT? It will be interesting to see if we can keep track of were they all go.
September 27, 200717 yr Around September 2006 CB Richard Ellis took over management of the Bartlett building. Of course the old management were let go along with all but one maintenance guy & they changed security & janitorial service companies as well. The management change didn't go over well with alot of tennants, especially when they "cleaned house". There was talk of a restaurant in the ballroom but obviously that never happened.
October 2, 200717 yr Does anyone have any updates on QCSII, such as grounbreaking date, pre-leasing, new height of the building?
October 2, 200717 yr I would expect "official" word in October-November this year. I know it is now October, but I still stand by the statement I made back in August.
October 2, 200717 yr I have already read the last several pages...I wondered if anyone had heard news since sept.
October 2, 200717 yr ^I think we are still waiting on the word that was mentioned (in the below quote) as coming in late October/early November. I would expect "official" word in October-November this year.
October 22, 200717 yr I e-mailed Rob Alpern about the status of QCQII, and received no reply. He has always responded before. What do you think this means....an announcement in the near future?
October 22, 200717 yr I e-mailed Rob Alpern about the status of QCQII, and received no reply. He has always responded before. What do you think this means....an announcement in the near future? Yes. They are currently in the value engineering stage.
October 22, 200717 yr I e-mailed Rob Alpern about the status of QCQII, and received no reply. He has always responded before. What do you think this means....an announcement in the near future? Rob Alpern and Mario San Marco both quit returning my emails (regarding QCS II and 5th & Race) a while ago. I no longer spam them with my emails.
October 23, 200717 yr I saw a licence plate on I-75 this morning in Liberty/West Chester Township that read 'QCS 2' only. I wonder if there is another meaning.
October 23, 200717 yr I saw a licence plate on I-75 this morning in Liberty/West Chester Township that read 'QCS 2' only. I wonder if there is another meaning. It is a sign!
November 1, 200717 yr ok so its officially November, October is gone, no formal announcement. Is this announcement going to happen soon nicker?
November 1, 200717 yr I would expect "official" word in October-November this year. Give nicker a break. It is the first day of November and in his original statement he said "october-november" of this year. Now if it gets into December and no word then get your torches out.

I thought he said October and October only. Plus, it was more of a joke since it is Nov. 1st and all.
