^good! lets get it rolling.  This building will be massive and will take some getting used to because the skyline will dramatically change from all angles.

Tallest building in city breaks ground

BY THE ENQUIRER

The tallest building in Cincinnati breaks ground at noon today.

Western & Southern Financial Group's 41-story building at Queen City Square will be constructed on the east side of Sycamore between Third and Fourth streets.

Great American Insurance Co. will occupy more than half of the tower, with other tenants to be announced.

The building will be 86 feet taller than Carew Tower at 574 feet. It should be finished in late 2010 with occupancy in early 2011.

Boo-yah!

Cincy Images appears in the top right when you enlarge the photo.

If i hear one more reference to princess dianas tiara im going to fricken throw up.

haha, I just walked by the dedication.  I wanted to knock the model off it's stand, fortunately for them, they police had it blocked off.

The dirt has been tossed and everyone' stucking into the free lunch as I type.  QCS will be "one of" the tallest LEED certified buildings in the US. Lots of backslapping under  the tent.  Curiously enough, no mention of how much Class B office space is going to be on the vacant list once this thing opens.

If i hear one more reference to princess dianas tiara im going to fricken throw up.

You and me both!!!  It looks nothing like her head piece.

I was hoping for a drag queen at least for the groundbreaking.  Would also have liked to see the assembled dignitaries wearing tiaras.  That would've been a nice touch.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, though.

I think someone on this thread with a good camera should keep us posted with photos.  This is a huge project and other cities will be keeping an eye on it as well.

^I was there today, I've got some photos I'll post soon.

Too Sweet!

So how tall will this building be again?

660ft  41 stories

At least there were some pretty good eye candy running around there! ;) This is great news though, I remember about a year or so ago when everyone had their doubts on whether this monster would get built or not. Great times ahead for Cincy!

I saw those two guys watching from the top of the QCS garage from the Atrium building.  Funny that you got a picture of them.

Does anyone know where they're keeping that miniature model?

Love the Building but the "Great American Insurance " branding at the top takes away from it.. It would look much better with just the eagle symbol.

Yea its a great building.  I wouldn't worry about the wording because we probably won't notice it that much.  That crown on top will be getting all the attention;)

^ You mean "tiara"

The head piece looks to be about 8 stories tall, so would it be safe to assume it's about 100 ft. tall?

Could someone explain what might be inside the tiara... like, a rooftop garden, observation deck... what?

^ from the looks of it nothing.  it could potentially screen some rooftop mechanical equipment but that would be secondary in function.  other than that i understand princess dianas head dress to be an open air "cage"

kinda reminds me how the media reported on IKEAS Swedish meatballs and dingleberries...

Congratulations Cincy, nice looking tower!

I was bored at work today.

Note: it does appear to be closer to 700 than it should be to the untrained eye.  But my measuring continued just past the image which is the reason for this, so it should be fairly accurate, within 10 ft.

^ Cool, thanks Rich.

So if the carew gets it's own crown. It will still be the tallest? lol

^ I guess it's better than a pivot or a pole! lol

Well, Carew is old and cheap!

Does anyone know if there will be a live webcam to view the construction of QCS?

^I was about to ask the same thing.  There will most likely be one.  This is a pretty significant building;)

I can't wait to see this in the skyline.

Ronnie, time for an update.  Here is a angle you can work with:

^ will it fit?

This is a stupid question and I don't know what made me think about this but is Skyline Chili going to change their logo after this gets built? Or will any company that incorporates the skyline for that matter or will they just stay old school?

^ will it fit?

That's what she said!

Hahaha... Nice.

If you looked at the logo closely you would notice that many buildings are missing from the skyline, thats because the logo is based on the Price Hill view of the skyline that was present when the company started.  They will not be changing/updating their logo just because we are getting a new skyscraper.
