nice shots.  its just sooo.....fat.

I'll post more up from today. I found one of the worst streets in Newport/Campbell County. Not advisable to drive without some ground clearance.

Most awesome pictures - I agree that the view from Newport will be the "new" favorite of many. Thanks!

Wonderful shots...what a difference a new tall building makes..it spreads the skyline!!

Man I so would like to live in one of those houses.  Just think I could look out at QCS everyday, Damn the Webcam!!   Great shots as always Sherman, too bad I dont' have a 10K Camera like you do!

I know it looks just as bad as the renders put it. But just think we won't be able to remember the way Cincinnati looked when it wasn't there. This Building is having a huge impact on the skyline!

As promised...

Take your best guess as to where the first two were taken from. An out-of-the-way location!

^ Newport Catholic?

Are any of those Newport shots from a public park?  There's very little I enjoy more than packing a lunch and sitting on that bench in Devou Park watching the river.  I'd like to do that from a new spot on Newport or Bellevue, but it doesn't look like there are any good parks over there.

No, they are from public spaces but are not in parks. The first two seems like it would be a park -- a small grassy area, but it is chained off. And there is little room to park.

Walking the site now... Multiple loads of dry wall arriving, another round of concrete being pumped up the tower.

I noticed yesterday coming south on I-75 between Sharon Road and Glendale-Milford Road I could see the QCS poking up over the hills way in the distance.  Previously only Carew Tower was tall enough to be visible from there.

Amazing shots Sherman.  You definitely have the eye for skylines.  Were you up near the end of E 11th St?

Fort Thomas' newest subdivision is Villa Grande, a tutor-inspired residential complex.

"tutor-inspired"  :lol:

I know Sherman knows that it's Tudor, not tutor, but besides that, developments like that crack me up with all of their cheap-a$$ architecture "inspired" by quality architecture.  And to be called Villa Grande in Kentucky and to be Tudor-esque to boot is just downright laughable.

Oops, yes :P There are better examples of tudor-inspired facades elsewhere in Villa Grande. Amusingly enough, the entrance signage looks more Spanish-inspired than anything.

For the worse, IMO.

OUCH!

I feel QCS's girth gives the tower a commanding feel of a taller building.

people are forgetting that the crown isn't there yet.  It'll give it more height.

Yep, I'll definitely listen to the fat one before I listen to that sugar stick.

looks like they are doing the crane jump right now

No foolin' - you can see/follow the progress of TODAY'S crane jump via the webcam - it's happening now - exciting? Well, to most of us it is. Wonder what the final height of the tower crane will be? Should be over 700' since the tiara will make the building stand at 665' when completed. Once this final crane jump is complete the top of the crane will be clearly visible from long distances (15+ miles).

Hi guys! Can't seem to find the webcam address. QCS is an amazing building!

here you go :) http://queencitysquare.com/construction.htm

Note: The webcam is always 30-60 minutes behind "real time" - not sure why.

^Man if only the two buildings were combined.

I've thought about that millions of times, they are however joined at the hip! lol If they were combined this would be an 800+ footer we're looking at today and the second tallest building in Ohio. Man the prestige Cincy would have had.

Agree. With current size/height of most downtown buildings a skyscraper of over 800' would stick out like a sore thumb - a very large....well, you know

Exactly.  Each state is only allowed to have one "fierce" skyline.

I figured that part was intentional (so not worth pointing out the obvious).

Some of you guys keep knocking QCS as being too fat and not tall enough...in my opinion (not that it means anything) it's just about perfect for it's location in the Cincy skyline and a good looking building.  I also think the skyline could easily accommodate an eight hundred footer with out it sticking out like a sore thumb just build it farther north and centered between the Carew and QCS.  It along with a couple of other high rise buildings could bring the skyline back to that classic pyramid shape of days gone by!  Most cities now days have a "flat top" skyline!

Holy sh!t! That crane is tall! Nice! I would love to see the view from the crane!!! We need pics Sherman!

For what it's worth QCS crane is the tallest structure in Cincinnati history other than radio towers and it is only temporary. Will it ever be exceeded?

From what I can tell the Crane was lifted 120ft extra.  The Tiara is going to add an extra 90 Ft.  So this could be close to what the final building will look like when completed which actually looks really tall!

Rob Alpern says installation of the tiara will begin near the end of April, and the final installation of the curtain wall is no longer on a critical schedule

The delay is curious. They've had nothing but perfect weather. Perhaps a supply issue.

So are they just focusing on the interior now instead of the outside? Why not finish up the curtainwall and then fucus on the interior? They only have seven more floors left. Which would probably take about another 6 weeks to complete. Anyway, I wonder why it's taking a month to start on the Tiara?

Just by looking at this http://ic2.pbase.com/t6/73/280873/4/69974733.Un3myqOj.jpg Cincinnati looks to be crowned as Ohio's best skyline bar none.

Dirty sandpit.  It's taking A month because the tiara will weigh 400 tons.  Secondly, It will be difficult to construct.  The curtain wall construction hasn't stopped since they started it;)  It's a big building.

Plus, they have to get the interior build-out/finish work started asap for Great American to occupy their space on the lower floors by a certain date(not that it requires the same trades, but more workers inside none the less).

I wonder how many people are going to go to a Reds game this year, see the Banks above ground, see a new tallest building and say "hey, maybe Cincinnati has turned a corner"?

you kind of scooped a small piece of my column for tomorrow....

Forgive my ignorance your grace, but I'm wondering why does it take a month to "Start" construction not complete the construction.  Or maybe I missunderstood what "installation" means?  When you start construction it means you begin all the work involved with putting it together, and what I understood was they were'nt going to do anything until the end of April? "Am I wrong?"
