At least they didn't try to play up the Porkopolis thing. Imagine what horrendous retarded thing they might have come up with for that!

LOL.  I gigantic pig with wings over 150 feet tall sitting on  top of our skyscraper.  Combine that with touchdown jesus and we have ourselves a tag team haha.

I drove by the butter jesus about two weeks ago, the charred remains of the superstructure and the burned amphitheater behind it are pretty freaky looking.

I think the pig-on-a-pedestal idea has more potential than the princess crown.  Especially if you're going to be designing around such literal interpretations of conception.

All you haters out there need 2 get a clue. this skyscraper is f$&king gorgeous!!!

I'm pleasantly surprised with how aqua blue the glass turned out!! :-)  the renderings had it looking a bland grey.

FYI

The crown is what makes this tower. It transforms it from a typical corporate office building into something much more. With the crown, it transcends into a symbol. A symbol for the region. A landmark. The crown jewel of the Queen City's skyline. A bit of glitz & bling in an otherwise hokey and dull midwest. It becomes a monument to all the hopes and dreams of 21st Century Cincinnatians. A beacon of hope along the mighty Ohio River...where every other city in this distressed state (xcept c-bus) is losing jobs and population, Cincinnati perserveres. We are growing...Taller, Bigger, Stronger, Better.  Expect to see local migration into the city from surrounding areas. Especially now that our sports teams are kicking ass. Sports, as many of you know, are great PR for any city.

This is a strong statement to the country Cincy. Great things are happening. Can you feel the energy?

^Heck yes, MARK GLOVE!

No, I feel fat just looking at it.  But I guess it inspires some folks out there in TV Land...

LOL, give Cincy some love ColDayMan!

New city motto: Cincinnati~ More to love

I love Cincinnati.

I don't care for Queen City Robot.  Don't you love Fifth Third's Headquarters?

How's that?

I know, I know. Just giving you a hard time.  5/3rd would look damn could with a tiara...so would Kettering Tower ...

I wish they would update the top of the 5/3 building to the new blue/green color scheme instead of using the very 90s looking black/red combination. Back on topic...I'm loving the new tower as well. My only concern is that the tiara won't be filled in enough and it will look awkward in the sun, showing the HVAC units and such. I'm excited for whenever they install the lighting.

Great comments Mark Glove!!  I also love the building, and I love Cincy!

There is a blue (E) illuminated on the north lower side of the Tiara this evening.

That building is rad.

As you fly into town, the new tower looks like clearly the biggest building downtown from the bird's eye view of the plane.  Pretty cool, actually.

OH it's definately the biggest, I'll give you that. But is it the tallest?

Cool pic BTW J.

Wow, that view is surreal.

Dirty sandpit, don't go there man;)

*winks* I just did!

Just kidding. We'll save it for later!

The view from Christ Hospital gives the perfect vantage to compare Carew to QCS. They are about the same, with Carew's (I can't bring myself to say the next word because it will start 18 joke posts) clearly taller than the tip of QCS.

What a striking photo, from a different vantage point!

There's something about the notch between the build and the bottom of the arches that bothers me...makes it look like a giant candle.

Psst...

Flew over downtown yesterday on approach to CVG. QCS definitely appears as Cincinnati's tallest. Was returning home from my first trip through Charlotte. Their newest skycraper, Duke Energy Center, looks fabulous. And looking at Bank of America Corporate Center, I'm left imagining how Scripps Center would look with that kind of height.

Yeah but you can't play tennis on top of other buildings like QCS lol. Look at this crazy article on the web:

Pictures of downtown and Queen City Square on 7-17-2010. This building looks better and better with each passing day!

What is being built in that last picture?

QCS is just frustrating for me because I dither on how much I like it.  From certain angles it just underperforms and then from other angles it does great!

How big would this building feel if it were built in the Cincinnati Crevasse shown here @ 3rd and Walnut?  The complaining would still likely be off the charts and into space, but being on the lowest ground in the CBD does make an impact.

^Dixie Terminal is somewhat of a landmark, so that would be tough.  I always thought the Maisonette block would be ideal in terms of the best placement of QCS in the skyline.  Just an educated guess, but in your picture above QCS would be just to the right of the US Bank tower.

^ Precisely, I'm just hoping that our next tower will fill that void.  It's going to be difficult to build anything there that will look stubby.

The top looks like a birdcage.  Needs to be enclosed.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who wanted it glassed shut.

It'll look much better once the lighting is installed inside.

Will the lighting make it look better in the middle of the day?

Sorry if this is ground that has already been covered... but the intention is to leave the crown as is?  There's not going to be any skin on it?

Unfortunately.

AS IS! Take it or Leave it buddy!

That bird cage will be the best thing that ever happened to Cincy!

Bird cage? More like pterodactyl cage.  At least the Enquirer can be put to good use...lining that cage!

Um, wow. Not even close.

In news, there is an "E" from the GAI sign up on the north side of the tower. Hard to see in the webcam photo.

Yeah that's been up there for a while now.

With the birdcage, it just looks like a regular glassy modern building with a hot mess of metal on top. Nothing queenly about it all. I honestly thought they were going to enclose it. Blecch.

I agree, that "tiara" sadly looks tacky and nothing becoming of a princess.

Maybe this logo could be inside the Birdcage?

This discussion makes me wonder what it would have been like had the interwebs been invented at the time the Scripps center was built.  Regardless, while QCS can look like a dud from certain views,  to deny she is a striking beauty from others is just being stubborn.

I hear nothing but praises from people aside from this board.  To each his own!

+2 The general public loves this building.

To me the tiara looks like value engineering to the extreme.

Hey at least we can agree, this building is among the most unique in the state if not the midwest.  If it wasn't then it wouldn't be sparking debate.  I love it:)

The general public think Deerfield Town Center is a success, nuff said...

DetroitExPat summed it up well, "glassy modern building with a hot mess of metal on top".  The birdcage needs to be enclosed!
