I can see QCS from Rt.42 in West Chester while driving to UC every morning and the Tiara is surprisingly very noticeable from even 20 miles away. I also agree with unusualfire that it definitely looks like the tallest building from this perspective, but I guess that's because you can't see Carew's flagpole from that far.

^ That's quite a commute!

Tell me about it. Trying to save some money and live at home for my last year at school. I grew up in WC but living in Clifton for 3 years really makes me hate the suburbs now. I guess thats a conversation for a different thread though.

Back on topic..I'm excited to see what the tower looks like at night from this perspective. Right now you can only see all of the interior construction lights so I can't wait for the tiara to be lit.

Such a nice building with a hideous birdcage on top.  Someone needs to photoshop a parrot inside the tiara.

Here is another renderng:

Dirty Sandpit's black and white photo of QCS is both beautiful and impressive!!

^ agreed.

There is still a free streetcar t-shirt to the person who can take a picture of QCS II from the furthest away we'll say whoever does so by Thanksgiving.

^ I like this challenge...

^^ Will it be a mens large? Can't find those anywhere...

Sure. We need to do another run of shirts

That would be AWESOME!

An 80 foot bird would attract tourists like I can only imagine...

The Queen City Parrot...or something with a better ring to it

Man, just imagine when Jimmy Buffet came to town..... oh the humanity...

OMG you guys are absolutely hilarious! That parrot in the GAT is priceless. I hope the big guys see this. The tiara is a joke, until they get the lighting fixed on it. But in the day it won't be worth while since the bird will just appear to be sitting on top of the building if cage is invisible.

The bird may supply sufficient constrast to make the cage visible.

Perhaps we could use the sculpture contest from the casino money to get a nice big bird...

Im getting a virus message on this page.

I think the metal pieces are big enough that no bird can roost on the birdcage itself.  Imagine the racket from a few hundred starlings up in that thing.

Me too. UO, what'd you guys trying to pull here?! Is it the photos?

^ It's cincyimages.com.

Jayson told me he is working on it. Hopefully, it'll be fixed soon.

(Apparently, someone hacked his site.)

Somewhat relevant since it's next door I'd assume.  Hopefully the last parking garage to the east goes away!

Western & Southern Financial Group is considering plans for future development of at least three new buildings in the southeast section of downtown, including the possibility of a new headquarters, The Enquirer has learned.

Sweet, that is welcome news!

If it's the birdie I'm thinking of, you might mean "big", not "little"!

Whoops I meant to write A little, not I little.  Sorry for the confusion.

I just drove by this morning- they are getting ready to put up the "Great American Insurance" logo. I'm sure that will start this week.

The new lighting on QCS:

Tiaralights.jpg

From Norwood can see just the Tiara over the ridge of a hill. Looks gorgeous lit up

^ agreed. you can see it just as you drive past sorrentos on montgomery.  what a shame it will be once they put the logo on there.

I'm blown away by QCS lit up. No offense Dirty, but that picture doesn't nearly do it justice (not sure you could without a time lapse or something).

Just, wow...

I look forward to seeing some pics of it from around the city in the coming days, and to see in person in few weeks...

First reaction is that it looks sharp, I am interested in how the signage will perform- both day and night.

...just in time for the monday night football game, by the way.

you would think they could have had it lit by the NLDS...

I'm not a fan of the tiara during the day, but damn it looks awesome at night!

It would be nice if ESPN updated the stock footage they use for all the city shots.  I think our city's footage is a few years old.  I think it was for a UC Thursday night game this year that didn't have QCS II under any kind of construction or any Banks progress in the footage.

There was a blimp at the Bengals game last Sunday getting live shots.  I would think for a Monday night game they would get a blimp or at least a few live shots.  MNF is a pretty big deal.

There was a blimp in Indy for last Monday nights (indoor) game...

Well the tiara definitely looks great at night - nice job on the lighting.  It delivers on the promise of what it could be and makes me wonder if anything else could have been done to the daytime appearance.

I'm hoping to see some nice colors. Say, for holidays and things. Red, white, and blue for the 4th...or how about Orange stripes for a Bengals game?

How sweet would it have been if they colored the thing red for the Reds' clinch for the post-season?

Wow, it looks like a model from that picture.

^yeah its a tilt shift effect (very popular right now), that one turned out really well. cool shot.

Anybody with night pics?

Those tilt shift effects are so hot right now

Great shot!  Check out the entire thread on flickr if you have time!

That photo of QCS from Carew is truly spectacular!! And beautiful.

Tower tiara lighting is Monday night

Posted by jpichler November 5th, 2010, 10:32 am

The tiara on top of Great American Tower at Queen City Square will be lit on Monday in time for the nationally televised game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

There will be 192 lights at the top of the tower, which together will produce more than 65,000 watts. They are Metal Halide lights, and will be tested throughout the weekend leading up to the game.
