Looks great from Bellevue park in Clifton Heights!

Am I the only one who is shocked at how poorly they designed the top (non-tiara) part?Ā  You've got a symmetrical tower that focuses your eye on the top where there is a see-through tiara, and inside you have what obviously looks like the buildings air conditioning system taking up one third of the top and something twice as big taking up the other two thirds of the roof.Ā  Amateur hour.

No, you are not the only one...

Lol...that's been the center piece of complaints against the tiara from its completion.Ā  It is a very dull piece of architecture that's for sure.

It looked awesome in HD last night on ESPN. I'm really starting to dig what it looks like when lit up.

The first night they lit it up, it was too bright.Ā  They seem to have the brightness correct now.Ā  But the design is way too "busy" and from certain angles creates an odd optical illusion as if it is turned 45 degrees.Ā

Ā

It did look very impressive on the helicopter flyovers on Monday night football.Ā  But then again, flying low over just about any skyline with a $150,000 wide angle lens looks good.

Ā

My thought with the visibility of the AC units is that they had to change their design after the tiara was designed.Ā  The architect probably told the client "no, you won't be able to see them".Ā  I wouldn't doubt that behind the scenes people are furious and we will see some sort of modification, the problem being that it could be worse than what we have presently.Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Is it not going to be lit full time yet? Right now (7pm) its dark and the uplighting is on but the tiara lighting isn't. I hope they are planning on lighting it from now on..I think it looks awesome

^Im sure costs would be a reason not to have it on at night all time. Im sure the bill is about 4k a month.Ā  Once the tenants are in there, it maybe on all the time then.

A lot of places leave the decorative lights on from sunset to midnight or 2:00 am, the Empire State Building turns off the lights at 2:00, for instance.Ā  Electricity bills are the price you have to pay if you want to build an icon.

Yesterday marked a what Great American Insurance called a ceremonial lighting event... coinciding with the MNF game coverage.Ā  They got the lighting on in time for the aerial shots around 730-8pm.Ā  Im sure between your 7pm viewing and 730 some execs flipped a "switch" to turn them on for "good."

Very nice.. btw.. Bengals should have beat the Smellers. Damn!

A beautiful sight indeed!

Wow!!!

If GAT looked like that from all angles, it would be a freaking awesome building. It just looks GREAT in that picture.

You should send that photo to the national news wires, mentioning the QCS building as recently built.

^ Nothing wrong with those pics, but maybe you should've waited for the next page, to separate them from the "competition" above. ;-)

Thanks for the new shots, anyhow!

Meh! They're both good.Ā  I prefer Sherman's shot from Devou more because the night sky is black and you get a feel for the city's whole skyline.Ā  The other one although truly spectacular, is too exposed.Ā  I don't like it as much as I would had it not been so bright.Ā  I love the angle and the way QCS looks in that pic however.

Love the black background on those and I love seeing both stadiums lit up.

I've been waiting to see some night shots.... love Paradox24's contribution! Awesome to see the light pollution fade to the right, the foreground composition is just spot on, and the colors are just great (especially the red at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse)!

Any way to post these in hi-res so I can make one my desktop background??

I dunno about the Paradox one.Ā  You could try to contact him through his flickr page :).

The side angle is incredible, and from every other angle, like in Sherman's photos, it really adds to the skyline.Ā

Ā

I've never really disliked it but now I'm starting to love it.

They still aren't getting the sunset timing right.Ā  Around 6:something last night it was clearly night out, and the lights on all other DT buildings were up, but QCS was still dark.Ā

Now they just need to go full-tacky, and add little stobes or LEDs- anything with some flash, to certain points along the "tiara" and make that topper glitter like it's full of diamonds!!Ā

^^I noticed they were not lit around 9pm last night as well.Ā  But there was some fog, so maybe it was lit but not visible, or they were off.

^ no- Even though it was super foggy, I'm certain the lights weren't on between 6 and about 7.Ā  I could see Carew lit up clearly, and the lights inside QCS were coming through, but the birdcage was dark.

Ā

You'd think this would take a day or two to figure out... interesting.

They showed it lit up on the news at 11 last night

All the lights were on at 5:50 last night.

Tell me about it.Ā  I remember when we first broke it on CincinnatiUprise!

Ha - perspective is a funny thing.Ā  When I first registered to this site (CincinnatiUprise) it seemed so much more innocent, and nerdy, yet somehow sophisticated.Ā  I think I was doing a short stint out of country when this was rumored/announced, but it was around the birth of my second daughter.Ā  For her, the completion of this building was literally a lifetime away.Ā  While it obviously has some shortcomings I am glad it is complete, and my only advice is to turn to the side for photos ;).

Ā

You and me both.Ā  Actually, having something built at Broadway Commons will be the biggest difference for me.Ā  The biggest, ugliest lot I've ever seen will FINALLY be gone.Ā  I'm happy about QCS.Ā  I would love to see a wall of towers down 3rd street.

^ NICE! Thanks for the eye candy!

I thought I read somewhere that they were going to leave the bridge dark until they got funding for new LED lights.Ā  Am I crazy, did they get funding, or was this a temporary thing?

I know someone mentioned after they lit the birdcage that you can see the top of GAT at night from Montgomery Rd in Norwood by Sorrento's.Ā  Last night I noticed that you can see it even a little farther away in Amberley Village, just south of the old Ridgewood Golf course on Ridge.Ā  Ā

I've noticed you can see the lit-up tower from tons of places lately, places I didn't even think you could see downtown from. I see it turning into a sort of beacon - a way to know where the center of Cincinnati is at all times.

farthest away I've seen it is Erlanger KY- I was on 75/71 and you could just see the top of it for a minute or so between the hills

75S just after you pass the Sharon Rd. exit.
