Wouldn't that suck if you were in one of those porta-potties "doing your thing" and it fell off the side of the building...

It almost suck just as much if you were on the street below and one fell over and dumped all that crap on you.

  O.K. this is just nasty.

Remind me not to walk under the the Porta-Potties when I go to the REDS game on Wednesday.

Here's a photo taken yesterday from Fourth St.  It's pretty poor quality--the sun was giving me problems and I had to boost the fill light in the image just to make it visible.  Thus, the noise.

This is a good spot and if anyone else would like to get a photo there at a different time (say, morning) that would be great!

IS that the top floor their begining to frame.

It quite possibly could be.  It looks like they would have raised the crane if they were going to go any higher, the top level of steel is way thicker than the rest to support the roof, and by my count that would be the 8th and final floor.

Looks like the top.  Bring on phase II!

I have to say...it has turned out to be about 1/3 taller than I envisioned it. I figured it would have topped out about where the 5th floor is. (Does that make sense?)

no sign of the pine tree yet...

Didn't know if you guys had seen this model.  I just saw it for the first time.  The crown makes a little more sense now, but this is still based on the first design.  Does anyone know when the new renderings for phase II will come out?  I'm assuming when they announce its construction date.

^ That's the only rendering for Phase II that I've ever seen, and I haven't heard anything about a new rendering or even an exact timetable for the new tower to begin.

I know it's the initial design - I had never seen that particular model before.  But there was talk that the next design of phase II would look as different as phase one does compared to this initial rendering...

I hadn't seen the rendering you posted AddisonJM.  I can see it is the same version of the building, but I like it better than the smaller version of the rendering which had been posted here before (the one grasscat has above).  The crown looks much better to my thinking in your post than in the smaller version.

You know, it doesn't look that bad at all in the model-rendering.  I actually...kinda...like...it...

It does have a bit of a Robby the Robot look to it though (minus the antennas of course).  Danger Will Robinson, lol.

The thing I notice from this rendering that I didn't realize from the other is that the crown is sort of open rather than solid... I haven't decided whether that's better, worse, or neutral, though.

Wow, a very distinctive building. I'm curious to see what (if anything) actually gets built.

Yeah, it kind of has that oscillating fan look, doesn't it?

I wonder if Phase II really goes through, if they will keep it as the tallest? And keep the design shown in those renderings too.

I like that design. The pinecone doesn't look too bad to me.

i noticed today that the phase 1 tower really blocks out any view there was of the p&g towers from covington. i'm on the 3rd floor of the east tower @ rivercenter and frorm my desk i can only see the tops of the p&g towers now. not a big deal, but something i hadn't noticed before.

In driving up Broadway the other day, I noticed the garage on the east side of Broadway had a piece of the facade tacked up on it. Has anyone heard of plans to cover that garage?

Oh well, I quess that means that P&G will just have to build a 1000 foot tall expansion tower so they can be seen again. :-D

AddisonJM, where did you get that rendering.  It f*cking rules.  I must admit that rendering you posted changes my opinion on QCS.  I LOVE IT!

if you look closer at the rendering AddisonJM posted...it is in fact different than the model we are used to seeing.  the differences are subtle...but definately more accurate with the changes made to phase one.  for example, if you look closely at the phase one portion it has the little dome included where it was not included before...and i dont mean the dome right there in the front.  additionally the white cladding treatment around the bottom seems to be accurate with the design language of phase one.  i will admit the proportion of phase one looks a little off to be accurate...but maybe this is the new version?

I just got it off of some foreign board.  I hadn't seen it anywhere before.

You're right, it does have the dome portrayed on the south side of phase I.  This probably is a second rendering.

The one thing I've never understood is why they're making a building with so much square footage so short.  It seems a little squat to me.  It just looks like it should be thinner but taller.  I don't know, but that's the one thing that's never looked right to me.

I like the crown alot better knowing that it's open.  I'm thinking of it lit at night, like if you drive through Atlanta.  Several buildings have clear tops.

A current photo showing the 16th floor or what I assume to be an equipment penthouse as well as the glass paneling going on the north face of the building.  This shot was taken from 4th street looking south.

People aren't going to like me asking this, but what do you think the probability is that they will actually build the tower?

Can anyone get a pic of this? And Locutus, I think it will be built.  I don't know why, but I really do think that.

you newer folks need to glance back through all eight pages...most of your answeres are there

I think it will be built, but it may not look like the rendering above.  The panels on the old Broadway Western-Southern Garage were just test panels we think.  They were put up long ago before they started installing the panels on QCS phase I.  There was a pic of it in the the earlier pages of this thread somewhere.

I think there is already more glass in the one picture of phase one QCS then on the Pinnicale.

I can see part of phase one off of I-71 behind the P&G building.

Did They Moved The Crane Off The Old Garage???

has something happened that i dont know about?  skyscraperpage.com now has phase two as "under construction"  and skyscrapers.com has phase two as "approved"...both changed from "proposed" since the last time i visited either of the two websites

From Skyscraperpage.com

Description:

Western-Southern Life has began construction on phase 1 of Queen City Square, which will be a 15 story office/parking garage combo at the south-east corner of 303 Broadway. It has been confirmed that phase 2 of Queen City Square, which features a 37 story tower, will begin construction in 2005 after the completion of Phase 1. Although there will be slight design variations from above, the tower will be similar to the current rendering.

That description has been up there for a while.  That's what got me initially involved on the board over there, them saying phase II was confirmed.  It's still planned, but I don't know that anyone would call it confirmed.

It's in limbo, depending on market.

I dunno, Western-Southern/Eagle had said something to the effect that Phase II was a go and would be in the very near future--I think I heard it on a radio news report.  I haven't seen anything in print, though.

Wow, the QCS thread had fallen all the way to page 4!  Here is a bump with some pics from this weekend.

Not much new to see for a while now--just the facade going up and up.

Yea...that would be me. I posted that on the skyscraperpage.com quite a while back due to a response that I received in an e-mail that basically stated as soon as phase 1 is completed, the Western-Southern garage is coming down and phase 2 would start (somwhere in 2006). I no longer have that e-mail, but wish I did. I'm sure it won't start by 2006, but you never know. I think they really want to build this and it will be done.

I agree with Ronnie because if you look at the the third pic it seem like that on the bottom of the first floor they are going to connect it with the second phase.

i believe that is an exit stairwell for the new parking garage.  but the side of those stairs where phase 2 would seemingly connect is being blocked up...not clad in glass.  maybe thats a sign??

does anyone agree that a new tallest should be further back(6th or 7th street) in the skyline? I'm not complaining but it would be nice..lol

I think the West side of downtown desperately needs a new skyskraper and if i could pick any place to have it, I would put it by the Hyat.

i agree edale.  seems most of the energy of the past several decades has been east

The Cincinnati 2000 Plan, which spelled out many urban design issues, called for the city to maintain its pyramidal shape, peaking at Fountain Square.  It is not a law of course; however for this to be maintained, Carew Tower must stay the tallest or Fountain Square West would have to be built taller than planned.  I also agree that the west side of downtown could use some more bulk.  The lots at 4th/5th and Plum St. as well as the lot at 3rd and Elm are still the best and most available sites (the latter of which was to be a taller Phase II of Duke's 312 Elm Building (aka The Enquirer Bldg.), they let their option expire several years ago.
