September 5, 200717 yr Good shots! I've never been there, but I'd like to see it. For a state capital it has a surprisingly small-city look in some respects. There are some pretty interesting buildings, though, and that Knapp building absolutely kicks butt, in my opinion. Not many like that survived the sixties and seventies without being stripped of their decorative features and covered with metal cladding. It could be the centerpiece for a whole revitalization project.
September 5, 200717 yr Lansing is quite hideous, really. The state capitol building looks like a pencil-topped dome with a grand base, the tallest building is a stripped-down version of Allentown, PA's tallest, and the downtown itself is nothing more than Lima with a Skyline Chili. Trash, complete trash. But I do like East Lansing. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 5, 200717 yr I seriously thought you were going to ban Zach for posting Lansing pictures. It's like a cardinal sin on midwest internet forums

September 7, 200717 yr Don't cry. Crossing over into sunnier East Lansing will make the sad go away. But really though. Great pics Zach
September 7, 200717 yr Spent time in East Lansing, not so much in Lansing. I guess I can say that I've seen it now.
September 8, 200717 yr Lansing's an attractive old Midwestern small city in many ways, but lifeless (Old Town, NE of downtown has some activity, but...)... in this sense, Lansing is probably the worst capital city in the upper Midwest. Unfortunately nearby East Lansing, with the huge MSU population, just sucks the entertainment and artistic life out of Lansing... If I'm not mistaken, even the highly-credible Lansing Symphony Orchestra calls MSU's campus home in East Lansing, not Lansing... pretty embarrassing for the seat of a 500,000 metro area.
September 8, 200717 yr Why's everyone gettin worked up about Lansing? Malcom X grew up in Lansing. Yet his importance came from Harlem and he was born in Omaha, Nebraska. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

September 9, 200717 yr What no pics of the ball field? I really like the Knapps Office Centre. I've only been to Lansing once for work to visit with state legislators for work. I found the capitol building rather cool, especially the inside. Oh wait, make that twice. Was also at a piano bar in a rough part of town for a friend's birthday. Agree though--not very impressive capital city. Move it to Ann Arbor :)
September 9, 200717 yr can we at least agree that florida has the worst one? I was going to say Arizona, but Florida can win if you want. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 10, 200717 yr can we at least agree that florida has the worst one? I was going to say Arizona, but Florida can win if you want. Are we forgetting about Louisiana's romantically gorgeous seat of government?
