September 6, 200717 yr When I was in NY in July, I made sure I visited here for a slice of pizza. I also made sure I folded my slice like a true New Yorker. :)

September 7, 200717 yr This is simply a beautiful thread...there are just sooo many beautiful pictures in this set. This is one of my favorites:
September 7, 200717 yr It's a miracle Joe's Pizza survived. It was forced out of its long time old location just a few doors away at the corner of Bleecker & Carmine a few years ago, only to be replaced by another pizza place (a chain--so if you're ever in New York, don't eat there!!--the chain, that is); as for St. Luke's Place (with a pleasant little branch of the New York Public Library toward the 7th Ave end--which I think is actually Leroy St.), it's an oasis of large, beautiful townhouses, and I believe the location of "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin. Also the exterior of the "Cosby Show" residence was one of these homes (despite the fact that the show was set in Brooklyn); and lastly, thanks for showing that hideous pink Julian Schnabel (probably the most overrated artist of a generation) monstrosity. This has generated a great deal of controversy for obvious aesthetic reasons, not least of which probably involve the mega-rich tenants of the Richard Meier buildings who overlook it. Maybe why this is why Martha Stewart, one of the original buyers, never moved in--as it was clearly incompatible with her palette of muted paints. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
