According to wcpo.com, it looks like Terrace Park has finally dropped its opposition to the bike trail passing through. Of course, the opposition was based on fear of the criminal element that having a bike trail brings to a community, with all of those hooligan road bikers and ruffian joggers and rollerbladers. I always thought it would be great to put the freight railroad back in the right-of-way, just to spite them. Anyway, just be careful to watch your speed as you ride through Terrace Park...

Little Miami Bike Trail Gets Green Light

Construction on the Little Miami Bike Trail through Terrace Park finally got the green light this week.

Work begins in November after years of village residents fighting the project.

...

What the heck? Their opposition is RIDICULOUS!

I just bought a house in Loveland 6 months ago and the bike trail is 1 block from my house. It INCREASED my property value, and I can bike to work in Milford. I bet they wouldn't want a light rail bringing those black people from otr, either. I get so sick of people who are so friggin stupid.

Funny what things people worry about as causing 'crime'. It's not like they are opening up a pony keg on the bike trail... anyway....

Does anyone have a good website for an overview of bike trail initiatives in Cincinnati. I've heard scattered news over the last year about different bike trail proposals. I'd love to see if there was an comprehensive collection of initiatives similar to this forum on Urban development issues.

Did it say some were concerned about noise?

What noise do you get from bikes riding past? Did they not want to hear the wind rush of passing bikers? :?

Man, I welcome a bike path being built near me.

jhansbau, the only real bike trail links I've been able to find are on OKI's transportation page, and they're spotty at best.

Trail nears final hurdle

Post staff report

Approval of a federal grant recommended by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources might be the final hurdle in the completion of the Little Miami Scenic Trail.

Approval of the $375,000 grant will mean there is enough money set aside to complete the $1.4 million project, which will connect the trail in Milford to downtown Cincinnati.

An article in the latest issue of Rails-to-Trails (railtrails.org) describes plans for an Underground Railroad Trail from the Gulf of Mexico to southern Ontario. Passing through Ohio, the proposed trail would utilize the Western Reserve Greenway and the Little Miami Scenic Trail.

When the 2½-mile section of the trail is complete from Milford to Avoca Park west of Terrace Park, cyclists will be able to travel from downtown through Xenia to Springfield on a 12-foot-wide paved surface.

Well, no not yet...maybe from the Little Miami Park at Newtown Road where cyclists will be able to travel from to Springfield, there will be a gap (s) still between there and downtowm

I don't know if there is a thread or info on this anywhere, but there is a plan to possible connect the Little Miami Scenic Trail to the Great Miami trail at some time. The only place I can find information is on the City of Faifield's website at http://www.fairfield-city.org/parks/miami2miami.cfm. The trail would connect in Hamilton south of dowtown and go through West Chester Township to Mason. There are 60 pages of pics of the proposed path routing.

There was an article about that not too long ago. In fact, I created a thread. I'm not sure about the particulars.

This isnt your alls area, but the MVRPC has an online site for bike trails now..and maps that can be downloaded...

Bike accidents raise concerns

'It happens all up and down the bike trail'

BY JESSICA BROWN | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Daniel Mullin watched his friend die last August.

It was a Sunday around 5:30 p.m. The two were bicycling southwest on the Little Miami Scenic State Park bike trail from Morrow to South Lebanon.

They approached the intersection of Stubbs Mills Road in rural Hamilton Township - one of about 25 road crossings on the trail. Mullin stopped at the stop sign.

It will be awesome if all this comes to fruition.....

A welcome link

Construction crews have been working this spring on a project that tri-state cyclists have long awaited: completion of a $1.1 million, 2.5-mile extension of the Little Miami Scenic Trail through Terrace Park.

For years the trailhead closest to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky population centers was in Milford. Terrace Park had long resisted extending the trail through that community, fearing disruption of its famously tranquil lifestyle. But the experience of other communities - Loveland being a prime example - appears to have allayed most of those fears.

TERRACE PARK - A key 2.6-mile link of the Little Miami Scenic Trail running through Terrace Park has been completed, providing joggers and bicyclists with an unbroken 70-mile paved trail.

The newest segment of the paved hike-bike trail, built by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, extends from Ohio 126 near U.S. 50 in Milford through Terrace Park to Avoca Park in Columbia Township. The $1.1 million segment hooks up with a two-mile section running from Avoca Park to the Little Miami Golf Center in Newtown that was recently completed by the Hamilton County Park District.

SORTA, council moving on bike trail connection

September 11, 2007 | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

CINCINNATI - The move to connect the Little Miami Scenic Trail to the Lunken Trail in Cincinnati's East End finally might gain some wheels.

The board of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority on Tuesday gave its support to a plan that would convert the northern track of the unused Oasis rail line, which it owns, to a temporary bike trail. The Hamilton County Park Board has also said it is willing to discuss an arrangement with SORTA whereby it would manage the construction, operation and maintenance of the Oasis line trail.

Wow, that reflects a pretty big sea change in how biking projects are viewed. From recreation to transportation... *gasp* could it be that folks are actually starting to see bikes as the useful transportation tool that they can be?

They will apply (as others have in the past) and be denied by OKI. OKI is quite satisfied with being focused on automobiles only.

Pessimist! ;)

Poor Don Burrell. What is he doing at OKI as the Bike / Pedestrian guy if OKI is auto-oriented only?

Kudos to Anderson Township and the Park District. I wish the park district would be much more involved in creating a shared use network than they currently are, since compared OKI, the Hamilton County Engineer is significantly more auto-oriented.

OKI makes some great recommendations as to what the various communities should embrace per transportation issues, but they VERY rarely fund any attempt to actually make those become reality. What good are plans if you aren't willing to implement them? Just my 2 cents.

I went to an OKI open house on the regional 2030 transportation plan - it's mind blowing - the number of new roadway projects, expansions, capacity, removing on street parking, etc. etc.
