I'm not sure how far along PHS is in their capital stack. Developers tend be more optimistic than lenders and lawyers.

Some iPhone photos of a tour I took today. So here are some take-a-ways.    1. The balcony level is fully leased and currently has a five year waiting list. 2. The color schemes of each

That's putting it mildly!

My understanding was that PHS had their financing in line before they even made their announcement

Do they have their financing identified?  Or it is all approved and closed?  The timeline from identified to closed can be loooooooong and tedious.

^ I think your crane seems to be sturdier and safer.  YABO713[/member] is always trying to cut corners to save a buck.  :-D

^My crane used new, minimalist technology. I'm cutting edge what can I say.

Since the original construction of the garage utilized a "Luffing" crane, I'd assume it will be the same this time around. The "horizontal jib" type crane might not have the turning radius to be effective with all the other building around.

It's interesting that Potbelly plans to remain open during the construction... That should be interesting.

I'm wondering how that will work.  I assume they will have to close at least for next week along with other businesses close to 515 Euclid.

As of last night, they seemed to have almost the whole sidewalk on Euclid Ave. in front of 515 scaffold and ready for walkway purposes.

Crane. drops the mic

^ I gut laughed at that. well done

^ wait until it actually closes and everyone will start complaining that it took them 3 minutes longer to get to where they were going.

Didn't take that long (yeah, like a city official is going to come around and talk to individual businesses about the road closing)....

So dysfunctional.  It's not like there was months and months of planning meetings, permitting, etc.  How could the neighborhood not be informed?

Of course, I sometimes forget that people engaged in forums like UO are not living under a rock like 3/4 of the population....

Next week can't come soon enough  :-P

It's been so long I actually forgot what was there before the garage.

But we are also big time development nerds while the rest of the population has other non interesting things they geek out about.

Sounds like sour grapes from 2 business owners.  Road closures are a part of life.

Updated pics as of this afternoon

They're just looking for some free advertising, and they got it. Congratulations.

Sour grapes?

I think that's a different fable. It describes the circumstances pretending you don't want something good that you can't have, and suggesting it isn't a good thing anyway.

How is it that we need to close all of Euclid rather than East 6th Street?

Cleveland has wonderfully wide sidewalks and avenues.  How is it that they need it ALL? In other cities, all of the sidewalk and UP TO ONE LANE (the parking lane) are what is generally needed.

Isn't it only closing for a week?

Yes fully closed for 1 week to bring and assembly the crane.  Then 1 west bound lane closed for 18 months.

Indians winning 18 in a row? A crane downtown for a new apartments (which will be seen from the Jake come October)? We are truly witnessing history. Can't wait to see some filling in of the skyline between Public Square and East 9th.

I wonder where exactly is the crane going to sit?

I know were all excited to see construction starting on this project, but does anyone really like the design?  I for one am hoping that the rendering just doesn't serve it justice.

I like it well enough.  Some have complained about the color but I consider it a strong suit.  I also like the apparent complexity of the surface.

FWIW, there is a somewhat similar facade on a building in Boston designed by the same architect (tho in a predecessor firm) and it looks great, imho.

Meh. At least it will be tall.

I like tall

Made some pretty good progress on the crane today, though they seem to be winding down now.

So when complete will you be able to see 515 and/or the playhouse square building from Progressive Field? Thanks!

Most likely 515 from the nosebleeds since it is a mid rise. Playhouse is on the other side of the field outside of the cityscape, so you wouldn't even see it from nosebleed seats unless you look on the outside walkways underneath the seats. NuCLEus will either fill the space between 200 and terminal, or cover up our beautiful terminal tower. The only reason I dont like nuCLEus is because they put it in the wrong place...

^Have to disagree with you concerning the Playhouse Square Apartment Building.  You can see the Keith Building from upper deck seats on the third base line and left field and it is directly across the street and shorter.  In fact you can even see CSU's Rhodes Tower from those seats and it is much further down Euclid.

I don't think I've ever been on the 3rd at Indians games.

The attached image is from user freethink about 6 pages back.

Thanks for the replies!

Well, i stand corrected! Lol. I guess I pay attention mostly to the games and our big 3 with our Beaux Arts AT&T building...

Driving into Cleveland tonight on 77 i noticed there was a crane behind the baseball stadium. It kind of looked like the yellow crane but hoisted high. It was also behind the At&t building if that helps out with perspective. I'm thinking that 515 shouldn't be that viewable from I77 though. What crane would that be?
