^Cleveland made steel?  Still waiting for those steel jobs to come back ;-)

^^Thanks for posting that pic.  I walked past today and saw the elevator core is visible from Euclid.

Question for clefan98.  Is there any structural steel on site yet?

I have been asking that same question. They started construction in September and everytime someone asked when

we will see steel rising everyone said things like soon or there is are so many other things to do first.

Well, it is almost 5 months and still no one sees any structural steel rising.

What's 5 months when we waited 13 years or so to get this thing started?

It takes time to get the steel going in let alone see it rising.  I mean this project officially started in September and you expected steel by October.

that lift video. whoa!

Some steel has been on the rise this morning!

That just made it like two storeys taller... Cant wait to check it out when I drive down 77 today.

The E 6-Short Vincent corridors have so much potential.  The best ''urban'' location in Cleveland, IMO.

Would like to see that parking garage 1st-2nd levels converted to commercial-retail-restuarant-bar (just plop a couple decks on top to make up for lost space).  The PNC side of Short Vincent (south) is awful though from Garfield Bldg to corner of E 9th, but there's the old Roxy space there (that replaced the original-notorious Roxy location), the north side of Vincent has better full-block potential.  The south side of Vincent could use some streetscape to make up for its otherwise dreary gap as mentioned.

This area could and should become another hub of downtown activity, all premised on old faithful dive bar Moriarity's staying in-place and intact.

The Beacon is the building that will fully ''enclose'' this great area.

^ it once was the hub of activity Downtown.  :(

This will really start climbing now.  2 floors at a time.

Needs to come back to life and act as a prime hub and connector from Gateway to the Malls, then the pedestrian bridge to the lakefront.  Walk from Gateway to either E 4th or 5th Street Arcades, then either E 6th or Old Arcade, to the Malls, vice-versa, indoor (amazing structures) or outdoor walking options.

I agree.  A new streetscape along East 6th and Vincent could help to unify the area too.  The parking garages need to be rebuilt or redesigned to accommodate retail uses.  The 5/3 garage kills the whole vibe.

You could actually put commercial vendors in the little dugout along the garage in the summer months. Just temporary stands, but cool nonetheless. What we could do is close E.6th to traffic for select days and make it a destination.

When they filmed the last movie here and made streets look like NYC, they put up florists and fruit stands.  That type of vending could work there.  Small food carts Ala night market could work too.

I hate that E6 is now two-ways on that block. Not sure why the city did that.

Might be time to setup a webcam

^^Yeah Mayday- you and your fancy camera!

^Nice pic :-)

This is nice to see. For anyone that that is a construction expert - Why is steel rising on half

the building instead of evenly?

Check the renderings - the tower will only occupy the eastern portion of the garage.

Hmmm ... the renderings I've seen seem to show that it occupies about 80% of the easternmost portion of the garage (extending westward to perhaps that glass O on the garage's top floor). This looks closer to taking up only about 50% of the Euclid frontage, so I'm a bit perplexed myself. :-)

Renderings look like 80% of garage; maybe they started doing eastern 1/2 first

Not jiving with renderings on east end of garage only

The steel on the eastern face and corner looks thicker/different. Seems as if they still have to extend westward by two "bays". Just an observation.

I think the steel comes over a bit further, over to the top parking deck.  You can see where that is in mrclifton's shot above.

It all comes down to personal preference I guess, length or girth

Somethings up with Yabo lately....it is only 50 days till opening day.  Maybe his mind will turn to baseball!  :P

Yes, steel is three stories above the garage as of today, and the frame is beginning to resemble the renderings. Those panicking without sourced information should enroll in a Construction Management class. Besides being an easy A second semester, senior year of engineering school, the course was very interesting in explaining all that factors into developing a design-build schedule for large scale projects.

Updated pics from today... looks like the full footprint is now up to the third floor.

I'm curious at to how they will do the lobby? What floor and where

The residential lobby will be on Euclid where the main entrance is now. And the garage-only access will be on E.6th next to the driveway.

I know this is the second push, and that we have somewhat just started to have some consistent upwards momentum, but does anyone have a guess at what the rate in days per floor would be. Additionally, if they construct this in three floors chunks, will that lead to quicker cladding process/one that will reveal how the cladding looks in person earlier (even though I assume that's still far off)? Don't know if these are difficult/redundant/premature questions, they're just some things I've been wondering about.

Today I noticed you can actually see steel from 90/71 also.

Steel sure is visible from 71, We have a head on view of it as well on the Innerbelt Bridge. It's going to cover up the majority of 5/3's building and some of the crown, but the color scheme will look great when it's finished!

I think we're going to be amazed how much this building and the PHS tower will alter the volume of our skyline.
