They probably only pay for the "jump" sections for how long they actually need them.

  • To do that, we would need to refurbish the May Company building with hundreds of residences, turn Tower City into a massive business incubator with some high-profile tenants, add another high-rise apa

Without getting too off topic can someone tell what they're doing to the side of this building?

With five more floors to go, that will nicely fill the mid-skyline canyon. Lumen will help spread it out to the east of Erieview. Now we need a couple between TT/55PS and the federal court tower. Hello, Weston!!

I live here (629 Euclid - Lofts [/member] Rosetta). I'm not sure, but its been like that. It lines up with where the laundry rooms are, maybe for that? Maybe for the AC units that were installed? I'm not sure, but it is quite unsightly, especially for such a beautiful building. This building has a lot of uses. The front is a hotel. The back is MRN's corporate HQ (Floor 2), apartments (3-9), and offices (10-15), plus Sapient Razorfish's HQ that was built onto the top of the building.

They really need to get moving. There's so many unused parking lots around there. I'm hoping that if One University Circle, The Beacon, Lumen, Flats East Bank Phase 3, etc. are successful we can see these lots finally be filled up.

Problem is we don't want more lots. We want more decks with sound infrastructure and amenities on the top like 515. 515 is actually a genius full scale plan. Build a parking garage with existing supports and foundations for future expansion on top. The beacon only came with patience and the right market. No doubt it will be a success. The more parking decks we have downtown, the less we need to rely on surface parking. Therefore we can built atop surface parking with different intended use and tenantship (if that's even a word).

I'm glad the beacon really pulled through. I don't think there's another high-rise downtown which has been built atop an existing structure, and not only is this one of the first, its one of the more magnificent modernist buildings that came with patience and the right market.

Or in other words, "No Takebacks!"

The Beacon also seems relatively "inexpensive" as well. 60 mil doesn't seem too much of a stretch. However, a lot of our parking decks are fairly unsightly unlike 515.

Im pretty sure no one in this forum wants more lots in downtown CLE :)

Patience.... or, the bottom fell out of the market in 2008 when the first phase (The garage) was built, which killed the tower portion of the project, market conditions improved 10 years later when it did make sense to build the rest of the project?

I thought the garage was built in 2005

Here's a view from near the CLEVELAND sign off Abbey Road in Tremont.

It will definitely help fill out the skyline view in left field.

They were just placing a column.  I missed being able to show more of the lift by a few seconds.

So 3 floors left after these?

Looks about right.

I suppose staring at a crane is better than watching the Tribes bullpen.

^Under fun facts it states "First new high rise in downtown (CBD) Cleveland in 40 years.  Come on guys...get your facts straight (Unless they are referring to residential high rise only and ignoring office buildings and hotels...if so they do not consider Crittendon Court a high rise).

Here's a pic from yesterday.

What a great picture!

Edit -- looks like they've got the vertical steel up to the 17th new floor, which means two more to go.

A little May Co action in that shot too. About 500 units under construction in that view...?

Lest you forget 925 Euclid, although work hasn't started on that yet.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Great view!  This adds some really nice height along this stretch.... Wish we had some height on the South side of Euclid to balance it out... the height we once had was taken down :(

^What height on the south side of Euclid are you referring to?

Scofield building used to have a turret or a clock tower, didn't it?

^thanks May Day

Those pics are always nice to look at, but then I get sad.

Ughhhhhh that is just the worst. Thanks MayDay, those are the ones I was referring to.

I'll add my own random angle pic. This is from Towpath connector on Scranton Rd.

  • 2 weeks later...

It really fills out the skyline nicely from this angle.  Looks like the cladding is about a 1/3rd of the way up.

ajXTRNc.jpg

Looks like they're working on the 18th new floor, so the vertical girders that extend up from it will likely support the 19th and final new floor, barring any vertical structures for the rooftop mechanicals.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Nice. Can someone fill me in on what the cladding material is? Because it looks like cardboard lol.

I think the word they were looking for was "sheathing" not cladding. That's not the final cladding for the building.

Since those photos were taken (July 23rd, right?), I believe the steel has topped out except for some rooftop mechanicals, perhaps.
