  • To do that, we would need to refurbish the May Company building with hundreds of residences, turn Tower City into a massive business incubator with some high-profile tenants, add another high-rise apa

The new entrance is open but not fully activated.  Looks nice!

Some iPhone photos of a tour I took today. So here are some take-a-ways.    1. The balcony level is fully leased and currently has a five year waiting list. 2. The color schemes of each

Absolutely love seeing the cranes from 90 and 77... hopefully we can see a few more before too long!

Typically, in a project like this, when would the pre-leasing process begin?

It would be nice to have a majority of the units leased before the building reaches max height. I think it would also bode well for NuCLEus.

^^So here is an interesting Ohio Bar Exam Question.  Can Stark be sued and held liable for all the motor vehicle accidents which are going to occur on the highways due to the fact that Urban Ohio members are not paying attention to the roadway but looking for cranes.  Interesting proximate cause discussion.

I just took the bar in July... let me heal

^Results should be announced soon.  Good luck.

End of October, thank you!

I know the folks that operate tower cranes make good money, but it's not nearly enough to get me to sit in one of those...especially when it's secured down by counter weights on top of a parking garage.  Clearly once the 515 starts going up, it will be anchored to the structure.

There she is. Those "saucers" are reflections on the window from internal lighting, not UFOs.

We're counting on you

The crane is erect and so am I

Thankfully, I'm immune and not just because I usually take the RTA downtown. Rather, you can't see the crane while coming into downtown across the West Shoreway bridge. 200 Public Square blocks it.

A beautiful sight... glad to know we're not under attack (at least, not for a few months anyway).

So now that they have pretty much finished setting up the tower crane.  They'll open the lanes that they're going to on Euclid at some point this weekend.  Can / should we expect construction to start on Monday??

Loving the Sherwin Williams Backdrop there!

There was a very slim window where I saw it yesterday heading across the bridge. Also you can see it from Edgewater.

I'm in DC for the weekend. The number of cranes in the air is crazy. Enough to give YABO713 a priapism.

Caught this view this morning...

Once complete, another empty slot in the skyie will fill up.

This shot is from this past weekend inaugural Tri-C Cle Eats (which was pretty awesome in of itself)

The one-legged crane is the official bird of DC. A city employee told me they have issued over 200 crane permits since 2015.

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

So does anyone know if actual construction started today?

I was wondering the same thing!!!

I've been able to catch a quick view of the crane a couple of times today, but it looks like it's been in the same position each time.  So (at least from a few blocks away) construction doesn't appear to have started.

My photo of the day.

I like this shot.  The height of the crane gives you somewhat of an idea of what the street presence of the building will be.

I think the building will actually be taller than the current height of the crane.

So, is this thing going to have street level retail?

There's currently a Potbelly's sandwich shop and a coffee shop on the ground floor with at least 1 (maybe 2) available store fronts on Euclid.

The parking garage has always had commercial storefronts. The Potbelly sandwich shop has been open for years. The other spaces are going to be a Hecks Cafe and some other restaurant. Those latter spaces were previously office space for a construction firm (Welty) and an office furniture company (an affiliate of Welty) also for years.

I read somewhere that ground level retail was included, but I lack verification on that point. There's ground level retail everywhere. I don't think it would be wise to keep flooding the city with businesses. As it stands we still have a higher business to resident ratio. Cleveland is working to change that, but I'm not sure if adding more retail would break the future vision that Cleveland has in mind. Although Cleveland has done relatively well in recent years with the current status of our population. Maybe because of our massive sports market.

The third storefront will be an asian-fusion fast casual concept called Balance Grill.

?

Sometimes I wonder if some posters have actually ever been downtown.

The street level businesses are already there, as this project is building upon the 515 garage which was built about a decade ago.

Sorry, I've rarely been to the public square bit of Euclid.

^eh its Cleveland, not Euclid

Well geese you know what I meant, Euclid Ave....

Can't wait to see this thing from inside the Arcade, especially at night, and the opposing views from the terrace on the 21st level should be spectacular.  On another note, seems like Play Euclid would have been a great opportunity to utilize that parklet that was supposed to go in front of Noodle Cat. Couldn't go as I'm stuck in Cincy, but how successful was Play Euclid? I was just a little underwhelmed from the pictures I saw, especially with the Indians killing it not far away. Thought it would get a little more traffic.

Play Euclid was an afternoon only thing from 11 to 2pm and I went on Friday and walked by on Thursday, both days seemed pretty successful for a popup event.

Is there a reason that lower Euclid can't be closed to cars altogether?  It might be better to just allow buses and delivery trucks from PS to East 6th.  Am I missing something?  I might be.

It's a federally designated route, so it's not easy. But it can be done (see Superior through Public Square). However this is probably a subject best left to another thread, such as:

Does anyone know if construction has commenced. Nobody has mentioned anything

so it could be safe to mention that we are on hold again.

I saw them removing some of the upper glass pieces / panels on the parking floors yesterday.  So things are going on at the site, but maybe just not that visible.

I doubt they would have gone to the expense of putting the crane up if they weren't sure about going ahead with the project.

I imagine there is a considerable amount of site prep, support system setup, staging, etc. that must be completed before new structure can be added to the building. I'd assume there is work happening and it just isn't readily visible from the street.

This project is fully funded.  We'll soon see steel rising

There are hundreds of things that must be done before "watchable" construction begins. I am assuming the building will be framed in reinforced concrete. Too bad, steel framing is so interesting to watch. I am also assuming that Short Vincent will be the lay down area which might be out of range for the crane. So a feed area, within crane range must be established somewhere.

^While I will always support construction and growth, you almost have to feel bad for the businesses near Short Vincent on E. 6th.

^ They have gone through a long period of construction for sure.

I agree, it will be a rough bit for the businesses in the area.  But when the construction is finished there will be an extra couple hundred people living right there to (hopefully) patronize those businesses!!!  We just have to hope the businesses can last while the construction is going on.
