March 27, 20187 yr Yes, 19 stories. We can debate whether the garage is eight stories or nine -- may depend on whether you're on the low or high side of a parking level. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 27, 20187 yr boy i had forgotten how much better the garage looks than the sad looking crap that was there. and soon it will be magnificent.
March 28, 20187 yr Every one (including me) points their cameras skyward to record the vertical progress. But here's the scene at street level... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 29, 20187 yr When you see if from that angle you realize how big this is going to be, a really nice presence on that corner!
March 29, 20187 yr If you think about it there is not a tallish structure in all of downtown that is in this dense of a context and right on the corner. Maybe only The East Ohio Gas Building or the old Key Building across the street. Euclid is so much more packed in than E9th though.
March 29, 20187 yr As discussed this will have a good impact on the skyline but will it be totally hidden by 200 PS from the west?
March 29, 20187 yr As discussed this will have a good impact on the skyline but will it be totally hidden by 200 PS from the west? Probably for at least 45 degree angle it will be blocked from the west/northwest
March 29, 20187 yr As discussed this will have a good impact on the skyline but will it be totally hidden by 200 PS from the west? The impact I always note is merely in volume more so than vertical presence. PHS Tower will do both.
March 29, 20187 yr Does anyone know if there will be a webcam for The Beacon? I don't know if that would have to be set up by Stark or not. It was fun being able to access the Hilton webcam...
March 30, 20187 yr Just removed some tangential posts about the Arcade. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 6, 20187 yr Here's a pic from yesterday. It's a bit hard to see in front of the brown on the building behind it, but a new set of floors are getting ready to go up!!!
April 6, 20187 yr I can't get over how good that angle is for a downtown photo. It definitely shows a lot of density from this angle.
April 6, 20187 yr It definitely shows a lot of density from this angle. Yeah it hides the dozen garages scattered around Gateway along and North of Prospect.
April 9, 20187 yr 1. I cant take anymore cold and snow! but 2. Its always interesting when walking downtown and finding a new vantage point where you realize how much of an impact the Beacon will make!

April 10, 20187 yr Looking down the 3rd base line at the Jake. Much of the structure/crane can be seen from sections left of 450/550 in the upper deck. Its a great addition to one of my favorite views in CLE.
April 10, 20187 yr Thanks for posting northshore! Will the playhouse square tower be visible from the ballpark?
April 10, 20187 yr ^Probably from the southern/eastern walkways but doubtful from much of inside the ballpark. Getting back on the topic of Beacon/515 Euclid - from the Terminal Tower observation deck this past Sunday: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 10, 20187 yr ^Probably from the southern/eastern walkways but doubtful from much of inside the ballpark. Getting back on the topic of Beacon/515 Euclid - from the Terminal Tower observation deck this past Sunday: I never knew there was parking on top of the garage of 200 public square and as I type this I realize how ridiculous I sound lol. Also, as I look at this pic I wish the PNC building added to the activity of the street instead of just being there.
April 10, 20187 yr At least PNC has a plaza and open space. Nothing else on that corner does. They do a terrific job with the floral arrangements in the summer too
April 10, 20187 yr At least PNC has a plaza and open space. Nothing else on that corner does. And their 35-story building has nearly zero interaction with the street. It's a bunker at street level. To keep this on topic, here's an update photo from today.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 10, 20187 yr Honest question fgerlak, I walk by that pnc plaza daily and it has zero benches and zero amenities—not even shade. What benefit do you see from that plaza that you would rather have on the other corners than buildings?
April 10, 20187 yr Perhaps not the best place to ask this question -- but why were only the first few floors of the elevator core concrete? The upper floors in MayDay's pic are just steel.
April 11, 20187 yr Does anyone know if they will need to jack the crane, or is it at its' maximum height already?
April 11, 20187 yr Does anyone know if they will need to jack the crane, or is it at its' maximum height already? I was talking to the "foreman" that was setting up the crane back in September. He said that they will have to come back and jump the crane. I don't remember when he said that would happen.

April 11, 20187 yr Perhaps not the best place to ask this question -- but why were only the first few floors of the elevator core concrete? The upper floors in MayDay's pic are just steel. It's possible they went to steel to speed up the construction time since you don't have to wait for the concrete columns, etc. to set. It may have been easier to tie into the existing structure by just embedding steel column anchor bolts instead of trying to expose existing reinforcing, in order to tie new concrete column reinforcing in with it. Plus you usually don't see a parking garage constructed of steel framing. https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
April 18, 20187 yr Now that they've got a handful of floors constructed, any idea how soon before the building facade starts going up?? I would imagine that the facade would start before the building is topped off??
April 18, 20187 yr Here's a look down Euclid from two days ago that also shows that the steel is about to rise above its immediately surrounding buildings.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 19, 20187 yr This looks great. I know next to nothing about construction procedure on a high rise, but I am confused to all hell as to the way they're constructing the thing.

April 23, 20187 yr Working on the 9th new floor -- 10 more to go on top of that.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 27, 20187 yr Looking at the above pic, got me thinking that The Beacon should be pretty comparable in size to the Key Marriott building in the foreground. It's also going to nicely fill that gap between the 5th/3rd building and the Key Tower!!!
