Posted September 15, 200717 yr Some photos from the first day of the two-day Sparx Gallery Hop 2007 (Sept. 15-16). For more information about the event, see http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=14023.0 One of the participating galleries in Little Italty.... The Murray Hill School, now a collection of galleries, architecture firms and even a yoga/stretching place... A boutique (and Anne the boutique's owner) in the Murray Hill School... Generic hallway shot in the former school, in Little Italy... Lolly the Bus, er Trolley, is how people "hop" from one area of galleries to the next. Cost is $5 for unlimited rides during the weekend. Here, Lolley pauses on Superior in the Art Quarter, in front of the Tower Press Building (converted into live-work and art spaces). There is also a cafe, Artefino, on the ground floor... Off to the next stop, at the Galleria at Erieview downtown... And the last stop I visited (I missed, OK forgot, to stop by the art museum and their chalk art exhibit) was at Tremont's Lincoln Park for the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival. This was by far the busiest of the Gallery Hop locations... Hope you enjoyed the photos! September 15, 200717 yr I did, thanks. I wonder what the visitor tally will be when all is said and done.
September 15, 200717 yr I dunno. The attendance last year was 30,000. If this year is like the last, then I suspect most of that is at the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival. September 17, 200717 yr I dunno. The attendance last year was 30,000. If this year is like the last, then I suspect most of that is at the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival. It's really tough to tell, too, because Tremont's condensed festival in the park makes attendance look a lot denser there. Superior looked dead, but every studio I was in seemed to be bumping ... it's just so spread out and the buildings so large that you don't see as many people on the street at any given time. To a lesser degree, I think this is also true of Little Italy and even the Galleria somewhat. Meanwhile, the gazebo-looking thing that KJP caught in the front of the Artefino/Tower Press shot is one of the three new public art pieces that was a percent-for-art project of the Superior Ave. Streetscape Improvement. The pieces were dedicated Saturday by Cimperman and Jackson. Drive by at night ... they are lit up by LED lighting and look pretty nice. As I understand it, the LED display is programmable so that the lighting effect will vary from time to time, and artist Stephen Manka (http://www.mankadesignstudio.com/) is planning to add a feature to his website where you can recommend lighting programming.
September 17, 200717 yr Great shots 8Shades! I didn't make it to either day's events (crazy weekend), but I drove down Superior and by the chalk fest yesterday and was happy to see people out. FYI, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance sent out free trolley passes to some of its mailing list. We got them and were totally planning on going Sunday, but as I said...crazy weekend.
