Posted September 15, 200717 yr Today was a busy day - my partner ran in the Susan Komen Race for the Cure (he raised over $400 :-) ) and afterward we stopped by the Tremont Art and Culture festival. The clouds from last night's storm front were clearing out - making for some dramatic lighting: The pre-race festivities took place on Malls B and C: A warm-up including "Celebration" - this lady was loving it: There were a lot of people with signs for loved ones: Looking toward Mall C, basically a sea of humanity: There were a lot of people wearing "In Memory Of" signs ... a rather sobering moment: Energizer was a big corporate sponsor: It may be a benefit, but I'm gonna get my architecture pics! :-) Over to the starting line: And they're off! [youtube=425,350]VU9nd6SGnj4 Like I said - SEA of humanity: After about 10 minutes, the lead runners were on their way back to complete the second leg of the course: Quick pic of the Rock Hall: The winner, I presume... And while they obviously don't compare to my partner - who knew races brought out such hot men!?! And for the rest of you guys, hot women! :-D The first batch of runners: These gals get my vote - running at full speed and STILL working the camera like the rent is due! These gals were going to bail early, but they just took a breather and got back in the race: Who'da thunk that out of all these people, I'd end up seeing some friends! GuitarMania was over at the Rock Hall: John Carroll's pep band provided some entertainment: The last batch of runners on the left, the first of the walkers on the right: Lots and lots of walkers: Obligatory Key shot: With Channel 3 as a big media sponsor - of course I have to get a pic of Ramona Robinson! Well the partner made a 5K in 26ish minutes - pretty good, but time to go home. On the way back, the walkers were still going: And time for a movie - the skyline view on the way home :-) [youtube=425,350]IOtQ5o9BFRk Next up, the Tremont Arts and Culture Festival which coincided with the Sparx in the City event: Some dahlias in one of the community gardens: Pilgrim United Church of Christ, one of the tallest churches in Tremont proper: The Lincoln Park Bath Condos - built as a bathhouse before the area had neighborhood-wide running water, now condos: Pardon this brief interruption for lunch at Prosperity Social Club - perfect mix of old-school ambiance with updated food and booze :-) Two fun bits of decor: They have 3 of these: [youtube=425,350]YfSV0F_Ovw4 Alright, done with lunch - onto the festival. Target was a corporate sponsor: There were several chalk artists around the gazebo - this guy was creating a rendering of St. Theodosius cathedral: Lots of artists and vendors: Some Capoeira dancers/performers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira The main attraction seemed to be over this way: Ah, of course - belly dancers! More artists, vendors, and causes-of-every-kind: And with that, it was time to head home - hope you enjoyed :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 16, 200717 yr The crowd shots during the race were quite awesome. I didn't even know it was going on until I got downtown for Sparx at about 11:30 a.m. Mind if I use one of the photos for "wild art" for Sun? I'd be happy to give you credit. September 17, 200717 yr Great shots, as usual, Mayday! I always check in here when I miss events because I know my fellow UrbanOhioans will get out and get me some pics! I've heard a few accounts of the Race for the Cure... sounds like it was just phenomenal. The turnout, listed at 20,000, was impressive, but I'm hearing it felt like far more!
September 17, 200717 yr Great shots, MayDay! Who'da thunk that out of all these people, I'd end up seeing some friends! It's always weird when you realize YOUR extended network is in MAYDAY's extended network! Ah, Cleveland!
September 17, 200717 yr That's bigger than Cleveland's marathon huh?! I went for a jog Saturday morning and much to my surprise, my normal route had to be altered due to the huge turnout! It was neat to see!!! There's a bunch of huge races along L. Michigan in Chicago so it was a real treat to see so many people here! BTW, I ran in high school with the winner of the race--granted he was a senior when I was a soph.-I think...Way to represent B'tucky!
